Change is a funny thing, isn’t it? It’s so common and ubiquitous. And so powerful. It’s fun to poke at its immensity in little ways. In our more prosaic, day-to-day, we have a "change" of clothes. Sometimes, we desire, capriciously, a "change" of scenery. And in our more sobering moments, we may encounter a "change" of mind. The last one is so interesting, because it can affect so much. Changing our thoughts can modify how we see ourselves, and how we view and interact with the world.
When I began my fitness transformation, change was the seat of fear. And something more. Years ago, I had wanted so badly for my inner strength to be reflected on the outside- to have a body and a life I could be proud of. But fear kept that wish constrained. Bad habits and the poor health they incurred were bearable, because they were what I knew. But I wanted a life where I could do more, BE more. Fear of change was the dragon I had to slay to reach that summit. I took faltering steps toward that strange horizon, and slowly, those phantoms began to vanish. With strength training and healthy nutrition, my goals began to materialize and re-shaped my body and my life into a future I would have thought unimaginable.
