Goal: Manage Weight
I often quote Benjamin Franklin to my students: "If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail." I didn't plan on being unhealthy, and I failed my health exam. After my doctor's news, I decided to listen to Benjamin Franklin and come up with a plan of my own. The plan was to participate in the Body-for-LIFE Challenge, get healthy and feel better. About four months ago, I took a blood and urine test. The test revealed that I was pre-diabetic. My doctor suggested taking medication for it. Not another pill, I thought! This was the final straw that put me over the edge. My wife and I asked the doctor if losing weight would help. He said it would, but I don't think he sincerely believed that I would do anything about my weight. After returning from my doctor's visit, I knew that I had to take control of my life. Those words resonated in my mind. It was soon after that I recalled participating on the Body-for-LIFE Challenge many years ago. After completing the Challenge, I was in the best shape of my life. In the last eight years, I neglected my exercise and diet needs. As a husband, father of eight-year-old twins and a teacher, I realized that I need to set a better example for my family and my students. In conclusion, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to be a part of this Challenge. I was able to achieve all of my goals, including eliminating the pre-diabetic diagnosis. I am already setting my new goals, and I hope to inspire others to do the same.
