The summer of 2007 was one of the most depressing summers that I had ever experienced. My body weight was at an all-time high and I was downright embarrassed. My self-esteem was at an all-time low, something had to change. I was sluggish and my attitude was bad which had a negative impact on myself and my family. I was sick and tired of being fat, depressed and negative. Something had to change and that change had to start with me. That's when my Body-for-LIFE® Journey began.
I had heard about the Body-for-LIFE® Program in the past and remembered seeing the Body-for-LIFE® book in the local bookstores. I figured that the Body-for-LIFE® Challenge was a way for me to get my life back. I went to the BFL website and read the inspiring and positive experiences people were having. It pumped me up and got me motivated. I instantly thought that if those people could do it then I could do it. At that point I had hope and entered the Challenge. It was time to get started and change my life.
My initial goal was to lose 25-30 lbs. of fat and cut my waistline by 4 sizes. By the end of the Challenge I not only accomplished my goals, I surpassed them! I lost 42 lbs. and dropped 8 sizes in my waistline. I was blown away with my results. I weighed as much as I did in high school. WOW! The coolest thing is that I had motivated and inspired others to make positive changes in their lives. I told people who wanted to change that "It all starts with goals."
One of the most important things that I did in the beginning was write out my goals and look at them daily. I wrote on a piece of paper the following words and phrases: Family, Health, Shred-the-Fat, Mind-over-Matter, Discipline, Pay off the Mortgage, Have Fun! It was absolutely imperative that I wrote my goals on paper and looked at them daily because it kept me accountable and focused.
I must admit the first 2 weeks were not easy. The 3rd week was the true turning point. I was accustomed to the routine. I was feeling vibrant again and I had started to see changes in my appearance. My hope was restored and I was happy again. I had formed great eating and exercising habits. I was eating 6 times per day and working out 6 days a week. I was liberated!
I must admit, I did not do it alone. My wife Sarah was there by my side along with our 16-month-old daughter. They were both very supportive. I forgot to mention that 2 weeks into Challenge we found out my wife was pregnant with our second child. Once I found that out I wanted to win this 12-week Challenge for my family. I love them so much!
