Champions Q&A

2006 Nebraska Police
Q: Describe your life before the Body-for-LIFE® Challenge?
Between family life and the fatigue of long stressful hours as a police officer my energy levels were barely sustainable and my body fat was at an all time high.

Q: What made you finally decide to take that first step and enter the Challenge?
After recognizing that the things around me that should have been a priority were quickly becoming a burden, I knew I needed a change. I then wanted to ensure that the people around me also needed a change.

Q: What were your very first impressions of the program? Did you struggle or was it liberating?
Since I was a previous challenger from 2003 I knew the program was attainable. My first concerns were the skepticism of other group members taking the program serious and completing the challenge.

Q: Talk about the moment you first began to see changes in your body and/or outlook?
After 4 weeks I began to see some impressive changes in my body both physically and mentally but by my 8th week the changes were overwhelming. By the end of the challenge the Intrinsic and exterior rewards exceeded my expectations.

Q: Did you have to over-come any obstacles during your 12-Week Challenge?
Some of the major obstacles I had to overcome was time management. Since I was working overnight 12 hour work shifts I had to make sure my preparation was always complete for the day. Then ensuring the team was prepared was prepared was a close second.

Q: How did you feel on the very last day of your Challenge?
The last day of the challenge was a reward in itself. To know that not only I was able to succeed but my fellow competitors also had excellent success was the best feeling ever. I knew that my inspiration and guidance paid off with the other officers.

Q: What was the reaction of your friends and family to the amazing changes you made?
My family was amazed at both the internal and external changes that I mad and a number of my family member were motivated enough to accept the challenge themselves.

Q: Do you still follow the Body-for-LIFE® program?
I still follow the program and am currently completing my 5th Body-for-LIFE® Challenge.

Q: If someone were to ask your advice about starting—and finishing—the Challenge, what would you tell them?
I would encourage them to 1st check with there doctor to ensure they are able to follow the guidelines and then to set goals and strive to complete them by following the outlined Body-for-LIFE® program. Most Importantly, I would say to focus on progress, not perfection!

Q: How has your life changed since doing the Challenge?
Not only physically and mentally has my life changed but my whole lifestyle and approach to my life and health has changed. I now serve as an inspirational role model to many people in the community and continue to strive to helping others.

Q: Where do you think you’d be if you had never done the Challenge?
I think I would be struggling with work, family and my health would be at an all-time low. I fear where I would have been!!

Q: After going through the 12 Weeks, how was your mindset different that it was before? Were you able to face the challenges in your life with more confidence?
I now have more confidence and Drive. I know I can apply the goal setting I used in the Body-for-LIFE® Challenge to conquer anything in my life.
