Q: Describe your life before the Body-for-LIFE® Challenge?
Before I started the challenge I was one sad individual. My relationship with my fiancée was on the rocks. I had really no relationship with my kids because I was always so tired to even want to play with them. I was smoking a pack of cigarettes a day and drinking close to a six pack of beer almost every day. By the time I would get home from work all I wanted to do was relax and be left alone. Grab a beer and sit my lazy butt on the couch. That was my life.

Q: What made you finally decide to take that first step and enter the Challenge?
What is it that drives a person to look for something grander, to follow a higher calling, to finally decide that something must change? It seems that most of us have to reach a point so low in our lives that it's hard to imagine going any lower. Everybody has their low points and of course everyone's is different. Well I reached my low point. The funny thing is that all though I was there I wasn't doing anything about it. I was oblivious to the reality of just how much my life sucked. One day I was sitting at my computer while my brother Marco was visiting. I happened to have my shirt off. There is something about that little brother of mine. He is sometimes just too honest. If it hurts your feelings, oh well. Many times he sticks his foot in his mouth but not this time. This time the words that came out of his mouth are what brought about what I call my epiphany.

My moment of clarity, my brother said I was getting fat. At just that moment my mind was instantly clear. It was as if my life had flashed before my eyes. Laid out before me to analyze and I have to tell you there didn't have to be much analyzing because at first glance I realized just how bad it really was. I have never in my life made a life changing decision with such little thought. I have to say that this has been my biggest life changing event and it took about 10 nanoseconds to decide it. Having seen my life as it was, almost from an external view was all I needed to realize I no longer wanted to be this person.

Q: What were your very first impressions of the program? Did you struggle or was it liberating?
I took to the program right away. It was a replacement for all these bad habits I was giving up. After I started the BFL challenge I found that the more committed I became, the stronger my spirit, passion and desire became. I was completely taken over by this liberating experience. Once I started the 12 week Body-for-LIFE® program I found that my desire to make these changes was far greater than any habit plaguing me. I quickly realized there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that I was not only going to complete this 12 week program, but that I was going to be in the best shape of my life.

Q: Talk about the moment you first began to see changes in your body and/or outlook?
I started to see changes in my physique within 2 weeks but the change inside started to take place almost immediately. I would say it had to do with the fact that I had made a conscious decision to completely commit myself. That in itself had to cause a change within for me to give up smoking, and drinking with a flick of a switch.

Q: Did you have to over-come any obstacles during your 12-Week Challenge?
I knew I had to overcome many obstacles if I was going to be successful in the challenge. Quit smoking which I had done many times in the past. I was great at quitting. I would quit smoking oh about once a month. Quit drinking which although I never considered myself to be an alcoholic some may beg to differ. And my eating habit, hmmm. That was probably the one I was most afraid of. Most of us have a busy life style and come on who really has the time to eat all these meals a day especially when you're working long days sometimes without a break. I came to find out later that there is always a way. I have to say that out of all of these the only one that was really ever a factor was the smoking. The first two weeks were the toughest but once I overcame week 2 I knew I was home free.

Q: How did you feel on the very last day of your Challenge?
Are you kidding me? I did it! I accomplished my goals. It felt incredible knowing not only that I had completed the 12 week program but that I had given it 110%. It wasn't the end. It was just the beginning of my new life in my new BFL. At this point I already knew that the only limits I would have in my life would be those I imposed on myself.

Q: What was the reaction of your friends and family to the amazing changes you made?
My friends and family were very proud of me. Many of them have been so inspired that they have chosen to live a healthy life style. Many of them had seen before and after pictures of some people's incredible transformations and thought it was all a hoax. Many can't believe that such transformations can really take place in the short period of 12 weeks. But when someone close to you makes such a change due to hard work, dedication and perseverance it is hard not to be motivated or inspired to want to try it yourself.

Q: Do you still follow the Body-for-LIFE® program?
The BFL program changed my life in a way I could have never imagined. It gave me exactly what I was looking for at exactly the right time. It brought things out in me that I didn't even know I possessed. It gave me the tools and knowledge to overcome any adversity. I will follow it for the rest of my life.

Q: If someone were to ask your advice about starting—and finishing—the Challenge, what would you tell them?
If you have been thinking about starting or have in the past started and did not finish the Body-for-LIFE®, stop thinking about. JUST DO IT! Make it your first priority in life. 12 weeks from now I'm sure everything else will still be there. Wouldn't it be 10 times better in your new Body-for-LIFE®. You HAVE the power to change. All you have to do CHOOSE to. The time is now!

Q: How has your life changed since doing the Challenge?
There is something that Bill Phillips wrote in his book Body-for-LIFE® that sums it all up for me. He says that part of the Training-for-LIFE Experience is that "you don't JUST do it. YOU live IT." That is what has happened to me. I live, breath, eat, and sleep Body-for-LIFE®. I am no longer too tired to play with my kids. If I watch 4 hours of TV a week it’s a lot. I now have energy to spare. And my outlook on life is always positive. Every challenge that presents itself to me is nothing more than an opportunity for growth. I will overcome it and only become stronger for it.

Q: Where do you think you’d be if you had never done the Challenge?
I would be exactly where I was before and just as if not more miserable and feeling 20 years older.

Q: After going through the 12 Weeks, how was your mindset different than it was before? Where you able to face challenges in your life with more confidence?
I am more confident than ever and my self esteem is at it's peak. 2 weeks after I finished the challenge I did something that I had never done in the 20 plus years I have been in the workforce. I went into by bosses office for a man to man talk. I told him I wanted more money and the reasons why I deserved it. He nodded his head and listened. 3 days later he called me into his office and gave me exactly what I had asked for. I was shocked. I realized one thing. This all went back to what I had learned from the BFL program. You can either sit there and be like a sail boat without a rudder or you can take firm hold of that rudder and plot your course. I choose the firm hold.

Q: What is your favorite free day meal?
My favorite free day foods are pizza and icecream.

Q: How have you spread the word of Body-for-LIFE® to other folks?
It is a rare day that goes by with out the subject of BFL coming up. People ask me for advice almost on a daily basis. A very common question I get is "how long did take you to get this way"? After I finished the program I printed out my before and after pictures and carried a copy with me so I could show people what I looked like just 12 weeks before the body they now see before them. Of course the reaction is just short of disbelief. I would explain to them that I accomplished it using Bill Phillips 12 week BFL program. Sure I had some experience from past years but it was the application of the BFL principles that allowed me to accomplish these unbelievable results in the short period of 12 weeks. I had never attained such results regardless of many months or years training in the past.

Q: What are your current goals?
One of my goals is to gain 10 lbs of muscle by May 1st. Another goal is to be promoted to lead technician at my next review which is in April.

Q: Define Success?
I define success, Knowing that what ever you set out to accomplish in life whether you win or not, that you gave it your very best effort. That deep within you know you gave it your heart and soul.
