I am on Week 3 and have been cooking from EFL. I just read someone's post stating that EFL is more for maintenance. Should I not be cooking from this book while on my initial 12 weeks?

You really shouldn't. It's very hard to determine portion sizes on some of the recipes and you may end up eating more than you should.
