I did the program 9 years ago got down to 135 lbs and 18% body fat I felt great. Now 3 kids later I am at 177 lbs and I don't know the body fat percentage. I have done other programs but got tired of always having to count calories or points and felt they were to restricted, I should have just done this one again. About a week ago I was at work and a girl I know came up to my window I didn't even recognize her she lost a 100 lbs I am so happy for her and a couple days after that I saw my sister-in-law and she is down to a size 4, they both are my motivation if they can do it I surely can do it again. I started a couple days ago and really sore and I was really tempted to have a coke today cause I have a headache I think it's from not having a soda in a couple of days but I will get past it. I wish everyone on here the best and lets all stick with it so we feel better about ourselves. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with cottage cheese I hate the stuff and choke it down.
I'm excited to be restarting tomorrow 1/2/12 as well. I had good success 8 or 9 years ago - I can't believe it's been that long! I'm at 150 lbs 32% body fat size 10-12 currently. My goal is to weigh 130 to 135 lbs and be in a size 6 or 8.
I like to have cottage cheese with pineapple or mix it with non-fat fruit yogurt. I've also just started getting into eating Greek yogurt. Lots more protein than regular yogurt.
I'm a little anxious about the food planning part of the program. As a rule, I kind of "wing it" when it comes to meals and shopping. Any pointers would be appreciated. I know one thing I will work on is packing lunch the night before and getting the protein bars / shakes for smaller meals.
Happy New Year and Best Wishes,
Packing a lunch the night before is a great way to start, I also bought a bunch of chicken cooked it and
froze 2 servings in a bag I have a food saver, but ziplocs work well too so all I have to do when I want it is take it out and reheat it, add a veggie or put it on a salad. I looked at buying the premade grilled chicken bag from Costco, but it was a lot cheaper for me to do it myself, to buy it at Costco it was 2.50 per pound and I ad matched mine at 1.67 per pound. Another thing I did is bought a bunch of spinach at Costco that was already cut and washed, but if you don't have a membership I would just buy what you would use for a week, I use mine for salad ect. cut it up put in a Ziploc so you don't have to worry about getting all of it ready for a meal and I also buy pre shredded cheese it's the same price as block. sweet potatoes same I get a large one bake it and cut it into 2 or 3 portions and reheat when I want it kind of like yams at thanksgiving except without all the butter sugar ect.. You could also cook rice ahead as well I usually only do 2 portions so it doesn't dry out. One more thing I can think of is I make a large can 12.5 oz can of tuna or chicken to make sandwiches when I make it, it will make 5 sandwiches I add celery, red onion a small amount of garlic pwd and small amount of Bon appetit it's a spice (you don't need much of this) put some FF mayo and a little mustard, cut a slice of tomato and and lettuce or spinach. Well I hope this helps, I don't have issues with planning food ect. cause I am known to be an organizer, well that’s my title at work and my husband calls me the schedule Nazi LOL.
If you would like any recipes I have a lot, Some of the recipes I am using are from Weight Watchers, let me know.
I have the same goal as you I want to get back down to a 6 or 8 and currently in a 12.
Good luck with your journey.
Hi tulip and Ruby,
I to am restarting(12/31/2011) after doing it successfully about 10 years ago (down to size 6 after weight problems my entire life) . 12 weeks into my pregnancy I had to stop due to complications... that was 8 years ago..(im a 10-12 in pants now)..I'm so excited for the next few months. I had tried several times but having a little one and all the goodies sitting around sabatoged things lol. No excuses now!
Good luck to you both,
I understand the goodie thing still have that around I just need to stay strong about not eating them I have 3 kids they are 5, 3, and 15 months I had lost a little between my second and third and with the 3rd i ended up on bed rest that did me in now I am going to do something about it, I miss my skinny clothes still have them and think boy I have some really cute clothes only if I could lose the weight to get back into them my goal is to be in them by the end of the 12 weeks.
I am so happy to hear that others have done BFL and then gained weight back. After a divorce and some stressful jobs I am ready to start again! It's been 8 years for me. Thanks so much for all the great tips with food as I was struggling with that again!
Happy New Year to all of u !!!
Thanks Tulip12 I'd love to see all the recipes you have. You sound like a pro. I spend the whole day Sunday trying to plan, but found myself more overwelmed than I should of. Tomarrow I"m starting again, I wasn't perfect today, but that is the beauty of this plan saying to strive and forgive yourself. I just had a hard time between 2 and 4 pm. I walk to work so I eat yogert or a protein shake before I leave work, but when I get home I"m famished again. I walk 1.89 miles. So any suggestions of a quick meal would be great. I live in Ohio in the farm lands where there is no costco only a super walmart. So I did buy some nutrition bars today, but not sure if that is the answer. I miss my nuts. Thanks for listening
Thanks Francine, I love the "Schedule Nazi" comment - too funny! Thanks for the food tips. I went to the grocery store today and stocked up on healthy foods and will be making my lunch & mid meals tonight before bed. I do have a Costco membership and will have to get over there next weekend. I know I could save a bunch of $$ if I shop smart.
It's wonderful to see all the Re-starters on the forum. What a great group to be a part of!
How was everyone's day exercise-wise? My Day 1 upper body workout went well. I got up and got to it before I could think about it! :)
I did cardio today cause I figure it's easier to do it when my oldest is in preschool witch is on Mon, Wed, Fri and I bundle my other 2 up and go for a run outside depending on the weather otherwise I use the boring treadmill, I usually go for a long run, but I am going to stick to the 20 minutes and I really pushed myself today I will feel it for sure tomorrow like I said in my first post I was already sore from weights, oh my but that's what it's all about
Oh and ruby some things are not cheaper at costco so I would watch the pricing I don't know if you shop at wal-mart but I ad match a lot so I watch the ads and go there and save. I got oranges for .07 per orange and got my top sirloin stakes for $2.99 lb by ad matching
Hi everyone here are some recipes some I have come up with and others are from different sources. I know not all of them will follow the eating plan exactly, but they worked for me in the past so I am using them again. If anyone has a suggestion to make it easier for everyone to see these let me know. I get most of my seasonings from wal-mart I don't know if they have them in all states but the brand is 5th season and they are .50 for a pretty big bottle.
Garlic pwd, Onion pwd, Season all or something similar, Dried onions, Worcestershire Sauce
Put the powders on first poke holes in the chicken put Worcestershire on then the dried onions do this on both sides then grill.
1 chicken bouillon cube added to ½ cup boiling water sprinkle each with basil, oregano Italian seasoning, dry mustard and garlic pwd
poke holes in chicken add bouillon then sprinkle the rest on. I like to put this with either rice or pasta if using pasta I put some speghetti sauce on it and add salad
Some easy ones this includes the sandwich suggestion from the earlier post
Portion of spinach
Swiss cheese or ff cheese
If I have a boiled egg I use that as well cut up
ff raspberry vinaigrette
ff sour cream
refried beans or black beans ( I like to cook them in lime juice and cilantro)
lettuce or spinach
whole wheat tortilla
Here are a couple of meals
Baked chicken parmesan
2 Chicken breasts (or as many portions as you would like)
2 egg whites
1 bag or box of spinach or whole wheat pasta
1 can bread crumbs (I like the Italian style)
1 jar of spaghetti sauce
put egg whites whisk a little bit in a bowl and bread crumbs in a bowl coat both sides of chicken with egg whites then bread crumbs. Bake at 400 for about 12 minutes turn and bake about another 12 minutes. Cook pasta (I like spinach pasta but I can’t find it anymore I don’t care for the wheat pasta so I now get the higher fiber pastas that are made) put chicken on top of pasta and put spaghetti sauce over the top and make a salad to go with it.
Beef and Broccoli
3Tbs dry sherry (I get the cooking sherry from the grocery isle)
3Tbs soy sauce
4 Large garlic cloves minced
1 teaspoon asian dark sesame oil
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (I don’t use these cause I don’t like it spicy
½ lb sirloin cut into strips
1 teaspoon cornstarch
4 cups broccoli florets
2 cups cooked brown rice
if you are not using instant brown rice make it first it takes 45 to 50 minutes to cook
stir together sherry, soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, and if you are using pepper flakes in a1-cup glass measuring cup put ¼ cup of mixture in Ziploc and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours (I poke holes in the sirloin before cutting). Add cornstarch and enough water to soy sauce mixture to equal 1/3 cup stir until smooth. Heat wok or skillet add beef and stir fry until no longer pink, remove add broccoli (I usually add a little bit of water to help the broccoli get softer faster) when soft stir cornstarch mixture one more time add to broccoli and add the beef cook till sauce has thickened server over rice
I posted some recipes I hope they help another thing I do for snacks is string cheese with a fruit and yogurt with cottage cheese I am still trying things out to make that better going to try it with pineapple next time like ruby suggested. I am trying to get away with doing a shake once a day cause that could get pretty expensive I do the shake after my workout snack. So I am doing yogurt and cottage cheese and the fruit and cheese stick for my other 2 snacks of they day. I hope this helps I will continue to post recipes as I come up with them or should I say think of them the ones I posted are just a couple of my favorites that I have made before. I do shop at walmart myself cause I can ad match I don't buy a lot from costco I call that the 100 dollar store, well walmart I call the 50 dollar store you don't get out of either one spending less LOL.
Hello all. I just started today. I have sorta been preparing myself to start for the last two weeks. Mainly just by exercising. I wanted to get past that initial soreness that seems to paralyze me for days. I really didn't do a whole lot with cleaning up my diet mainly because of the holidays. Today was ok,seeing how it was my first day following a meal plan it wasn't too bad. It got bad the closer it got to bed time. It seems that I get hungry at around 11p. I guess the cure for that is to turn in earlier. I just wanted to say hello. I just moved to a new city and I don't know anyone here, so finding a workout buddy is a challenge. I am hoping to keep up with the forums so that I can communicate with some people who are on the same mission. Good Luck!
I started today as well, did the upper body. Try drinking some water when you feel like you are hungry that late at night. Not having a workout buddy can be tough, I've been searching for one too, but keep positive and just think what you'll look like after your 12 weeks are up!
I wish I had thought about working out a little before I am dreading doing my lower body today cause I am really sore, but I will do it so I stay on track, I my not do as much weight as I probably should until I am not so sore. I am usually up that late too I get really hungry about 9- 9:30ish , but I think it's because I am so used to eating at that time after I get home from work, usually when I eat, I am trying to reprogram my body to eating times like in the morning I have to remember to eat breakfast. Late night and in the morning is the hardest for me.
Good luck, I have kids to be my work out buddies LOL (they get in the way more than anything, but they are way cute trying to do wieghts and stretching)
Congratulations on starting a new challenge! As a mom sometimes we focus so much on others needs we tend to neglect our own. Tulip and Mywise, I admire you for setting a good example for your children and showing them the importance of exercising and eating clean. I successfully completed my first challenge last spring after my 4th baby. It was tough but I did it all on my own. My kids were some of my biggest fans and helped to encourage and keep me on task. Be strong and work through the pain. You can do this! Work out buddies are nice but can't compelete your challenge for you. If you want it bad enough you can succeed. Completing BFL gave me confidence that I could do hard things and accomplish any goals I wanted and so can you. Aim High your worth it. I am starting a new Maintenance challenge on Monday 1/9 !
