Hey everybody--
Amy--congrats on the weight loss! I hope to start seeing some results like that soon. I can't wait for my clothes to start fitting better. I don't know if the scale will ever move--it's always so slow for me so I just try to stay away from it.
Merv: Glad you're feeling better. It's always nice when the clothes get baggy. Looks like you're a lawyer. I am too--I practice election law.
Ric: I hope things start to improve on the job front. I know how stressful that can be.
I'm on Week 2, day 4 and I haven't missed a workout yet! It's a first for me. My eating has been pretty good--not perfect but better than it was. I have cardio tonight---I'm really trying to do cardio in the mornings but sometimes that just doesn't happen--especially since I am not a morning person. I need to increase my speed tonight so we'll see how that goes. I actually used an elliptical machine the other night for cardio and it really worked great; however, I prefer the treadmill.
Keep on truckin' everybody! We're doing great!
Day 33
Had LBWO this morning, pushed out a few good sets of squats, love them, very hard but feel amazing afterwards.
Not much to report today, fancied a flapjack (cake/biscuit made of oats and syrup for you foreigners lol) but resisted. Having one on my free day though for sure.
Nearly end of week five, weight not really changed but starting to see the increase in muscle and clothes fit better.
Anyway, well done everyone, keep it up.
and remember...
Train hard, Eat clean and Sleep like a baby....
Rich
OK, so yesterday was a bust. Had a work situation and didn't get to work out and ate badly. Not going to panic or let it deraill me. Got back on the wagon today--just finished a tough lower body workout and I'm doing much better on eating my meals today. Moving on.
Rich--the flapjack sounds good. Send us foreigners the recipe!
Hope everyone is having a good week. Almost Friday.
Day 34
Probably the worst cardio session so far, didnt sleep very well and found it hard getting out of bed this morning, resulting in the cardio feeling very hard. Did the 20 mins but had to drop the level 10 after 30 seconds. Also legs were little heavy from the LBWO yesterday, so maybe that contributed too.
Week five almost done now, its certainly flying by now.
Here you go GADawg34, treat yourself on your free day.

Got UBWO in morning so will make up for todays poor performance then.
Ric
Day 35 and week 5 done..... woop woop
Nearly half way now...feels good too.
Looking forward to a little bit more sleep tomorrow morning.
Went up 2kg on the dumbell press this morning, 24,26,28,30 kg so that felt good.
Got a busy day in Leeds shopping tomorrow so cardio in morning followed by some retail therapy.
Enjoy weekend, catch the update tomorrow.
Day 36.....and so on and so on.... :)
Did some cardio this morning, since im away next weekend camping, so thought the little extra effort this week will make up for two days off next week.
Managed the level 10 - 15km/h this time so was happy with that.
Covered 4.9km in 20 mins, my t-shirt was proof to the effort.... looked like I had been in the aqua-aerobics class...
Anyway got to dash, off in to Leeds.
Finished week 2. Whew. Missed a cardio workout this week but didn't let it derail me. My plan for next week is to really focus on my eating and follow the program as closely as I can.
It is so hard to stay on track. I just have to make myself take it one day at a time and not get overwhelmed thinking about 84 days or 12 weeks.
Ric--you're an in inspiration and you're doing awesome. Keeps me motivated to see the emails from you and the others and makes me suck it up and go work out.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Week 3, day 1, upper body workout tonight. Really pushed myself. Did pretty well eating today but have been hungrier lately. I need to read parts of the book again--just a refresher.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Day 37 & 38
First time I failed to get to the gym when I wanted to go, woke up yesterday and felt awful, so decided to take the day off as I would of not felt like putting in the effort for a hard LBWO.
So on to today, day 38, hit the gym hard this morning on the LBWO, so felt better for not making it on sunday.
Think I may increase the weight slightly again next session, getting near the 40kg a side (100kg 220lbs including bar) on the squats for the set of six, reckon I could do it.
Got cardio tomorrow, which I am strangely looking forward too.
Right im hungry, as usual, so im off to make my tea.
Keep going fellow BFLers
Happy Monday!
Ric--you're doing awesome. Are you seeing results?
I did cardio tonight. It was really hard. My my calves and shins are pretty sore. I'm thinking I may have to switch up between the treadmill and the elliptical. I'm definitely not as young as I used to be--especially when I did this for the first time 10 years ago.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Hi All
Not missed any exercise sessions since that bout of flu and feeling great. Could be a bit more disciplined with eating though.
Today is Day 39:
Cardio today. Tried the treadmill this morning for the first time on this programme (Thanks to you Ric). Did exclusively elliptical trainer for the first few weeks.Ric you are really doing well on the treadmill. I managed 9.5km/h high point. Not too bad for first try. Will now alternate between elliptical trainer and treadmill for the rest of the programme. Never been much of a runner but why not???
GADAWg, also going to put more oomph into my diet plan. Since i exercise in the evening will adjust my eating to ensure meal 4, 3hrs before gym and will eat meal 5 only 1hr afterwards and check the results after this week. PORTION SIZE!!! Will be good this week.
Would like to train in the morning but will disturb everybody in the house!
Have great day all of you!!!
Day 39.....
Firstly, I did the cardio this morning and managed 15.1km/h on the high point level 10, but was knackered and done in at the end, but a little progress was achieved, so I was happy with that none the less.
Then came the moment I knew was coming, got a polite "Ric, can we have a word downstairs..." from one of the directors, was handed a letter about the redundancy and told to come back friday morning for a consultation...
So after that I packed my bag and went for a single ( I know I shouldn't but needed it ) pint of Becks, and it was very nice. Think I can be forgiven for the little slip on the diet mid week.
On the positive I now have 2 days off then camping at the weekend....every cloud and all that milarky :)
Got UBWO in the morning, going to have a little lie in but will set my alarm and get myself out of my warm comfy pit and head to the gym.
GADawg34 thanks for the encouragement. I still have a long way to go and not sure a photo would show too much obvious change, but I can feel the difference in clothes I can now wear and also cant grab as much around the belly lol
May take some photos soon....will see, depends if I can get some flattering light ;)
MervRSA, nice one on the cardio, not y if not used to running, im far from brilliant anymore, just have done that much in the past when I was in the RAF, that even when im not as fit as I used to be I can still plod along for 20 minst a fairly good pace. Must admit though,I look absolutly done in afterwards and could do with not sweating as much, but no pain no gain ( or loss in this case )
Must admit I prefer training on my own in the morning as I can just get in and out, but if going with a mate then evening is good.
Anyway im off, gonna see if anymore news on the riots in London, disgusting what the mindless yobs have done, really hope they send in the mounted riot police and Army and let them loose on the thugs....
Raf Ric, Sorry about the discussion with the supervisor, I had that one once before at a bank I used to work out but I was lucky then and already had another position lined up with another company that I have spent many years with since then. (I handed them my goodbye lettter just after their goodbye severance offer was put out to our whole section that day and the personal rep was stunned as was my immediate boss). I hope it still works out for you,, and that they take care of those "hoods" over there very soon, before they destroy more of London. (Is hooligan a better word though?) Keep you chin up mate, when one door closes another one opens.. (I have found this to be true in the long run if you persevere, from the name Persus, he never gave up either remember).
Hey Raf Ric...and others. Great read. I am about to start up this Monday. I am 41 years old and have been gaining weight at a hectic pace...so much so that my waist size and my age are almost close to one another. Wondering if you have a few minutes to answer some start up questions -- did you do a one day at the gym figuring out how much you can bench/push etc.... If I start at lets say 120lbs on the bench press, which is what I could do at three "normal" sets of 10 (with some swearing at the end...) that isn't what I should be starting with right?? I really need to start this and finish it -- I have spent way to much money on way to many gadgets and fads that have only seen my weight and blood pressure increase....and the equipment gathers dust. Any helpful starters would be much appreciated. Message me here or you can email me at thibz@persona.ca Thanks
Day 40.....
Start by replying first...for a change.
WPBill, thanks for kind words, actually quite happy no as I reaaly hated the job and now have a chance to do something I enjoy doing. Hooligan, yob, thugs, TWOCers (Take Without Owners Consent) and many others, either way I hope they all get locked up. Just seen a video on yout ube, showing an offender getting a good beating from a riot copper.... serves him right.
thibz17, welcome to the forum, only realy started this post to keep myself motivated and its worked so far, but also enjoy the interaction with other people who are doing the challenge. Maybe start on yourself if you really want to finish the challenge. Im almost half way and cant believe how quick it has gone.
I myself never did the trial day before hand as I had just started at the gym the week before, so had a good idea what the weight would be, If your doing 3 sets of 10 at 120, then I would say maybe start at 80 for the set of 12, the 100 for 10, 120 for 8 and 140 for 6. If too easy at the end maybe do another set and increase to say 160 for 6. If thats a proper struggle then next time start it at 100 instead of 80, on the otherhand if you find the last set of 6 at 140 too hard a fail at say 3 or 4 then decrease the starting point a little, only 10lbs or so but it will make a massive difference. Either way you will still get a really good workout and you will no where to start next time.
Hope that makes sense...lol
I dont really inc rease the weight until I can do the superset to completion, orks for me but everyone is different.
Today was the UBWO, really enjoyed it, felt good afterwards. Nothing really to report on it, other than I gave it everything.
Noticed I dont get the aching muscles really anymore, even after I really push it, suppose its your body repairing the muscle breakdown more efficiantly and your body recovering quicker.
Catch y'all ( thats for my american followers :) ) later
Ric....
