Starting Tomorrow

  • Day 24 in the big brother house.....

Legs this morning, upped the weight on the squats

    level 5 was 20kg per side 40kg +bar

    level 6 was 25kg

    level 7 was 30kg

    level 8 was 35 kg

After dropping back to 30kg a side  for level 9, I went and did some leg extensions and set the weight to 55kg and actually managed 15 so will increase the weight slightly next time.

The rest is still pretty much the same as the squats just destroy your legs and you use pretty much all the leg muscles anyway.

The days are really starting to fly by now.

I generally weigh myself each day at the gym, but I think I should stop as my weight goes up and down daily, but clothes are fitting better, which is the real tell I guess.

Mervrsa, Xmen was good, never really was too impressed with the others but really liked this one, Kevin Bacon was good in it, typical evil Nazi bad guy.

As for the food hangover, I know what you mean, really struggled on the runner after my free day, will still have more than 1 freeday meal, but will be realistic in the size of the meal, felt sick after the chilli burger, not used to eating that much anymore.

Anyway all this talk of food has made me hungry, so time for my tea.

  • Day 25 out the way

Cardio this morning, overslept for the first time this challenge, but still made it to the gym and busted the cardio out.

9.8-14.8 again so next session on thursday will start at 9.9km/h

Think its funny my weight aint changing, but I know im losing the fat around my belly as there is not as much to grab and it generally feels less.

Nearly at the 4 week point, just feels like yesterday I started the challenge and posted the photos which gave you all nightmares and forced you to put the ice cream back in the freezer lol.

Cant wait till the 12 week point, I hope the results are equal to the effort I have put in.

    Till next time

    Ricardo.....

  • Day 26 woop woop

Upper body today, increased the weight slightly on a few things.

Felt tired all day and the temptation to have  a snack for a quick boost was tough, but I managed not to break.

Not much to report so will keep it short and sweet.

Hope everyone is still going well and reading this too.

  • Hi

Not been a great week. Been down with the flu since Tuesday. Kept to the eating for life but could not exercise. I should be ok by Saturday. Thinking of restarting week4 on Saturday or just continue with week 5?

Wish people at work would stay at home when they are sick!

    Keep well.

  • Day 27......

Cardio again today, started at 9.9 this time, was knackered after the final push at 14.9 km/h but did it so I was pleased with that.

After that the day got worse...

First I had run out of protein for my shakes and decided to buy this small tub from a local health shop, I would normally go to a proper supplement store but I was desperate for some and couldnt make it to the other on my lunch break. So I bought a 900g tiny tub of 90+ protein. I wasnt expecting it to taste too great but words cannot describe how rank it tasted, I actually wretched after the last mouthful....think this will be used on my pre bed shake which I mix with semi skimmed milk, hope it masks the taste slightly.

Then myself and fellow members of staff were called in to a meeting and were told that 7 out of 20 or so were going to be made redundant....great :(

But every cloud has a silver lining and all that..... I actually hate my job with a passion, so can see the positive in the sense that I can think about searching for a job that stimulates me and interests me or possibly retrain as something else...who knows if I manage the full 12 weeks and get the results I want I could sigh up for a course to become a personal trainer....stranger things have happened. I certainly enjoy training and motivating people so its something to think about.

Another positive was that after all that I have stuck to the diet and wore a pair of jeans today which a month ago were on the tight side so that made me happy. Im easily pleased lol

So tomorrow is the end of week 4, crazy im a third way through, dont really miss the junk food and sweets and before I know it I will be half way through the challenge.

Mervrsa I would just carry on with the challenge, yer you missed best part of a week but have 8 left and once you finish you have the chance to start the chalenge again or carry on witht he practice of a good diet and hard training, which I imagine you will.

Anyway im starting to ramble and im hungry so till next time.....

p.s. Probably wont have time to update till sunday as traveling to london Friday night, in Brighton Saturday for a birthday abd bbq( free day burgers and beer for me )

  • OK, I'm totally inspired by Ric and everyone else on this thread.  Can I join in?  I'm on day 6 and doing cardio tonight.  My eating hasn't been all that great this week--definitely some ups and downs.  My boyfriend left for Afghanistan on Monday though so all things considered I've done pretty well.  Only one night of wallowing in wine and food and won't do that again.

The day BF left for Afghanistan was the day I started the challenge and coincidentally 84 days from the day I leave for vacation to Maui.  If' that's not incentive I don't know what is.

I read about some tweaks on www.hussmanfitness.org/.../TPBodyforLife.html and plan to add a little extra cardio on my free day tomorrow (40 to 60 mins of moderate intensity exercise--maybe a long walk).

I've did BFL 10 years ago and had tremendous results.  Tried and tried again over the years but this time I'm committed.  I have no excuses.

  • Welcome aboard GADawg34!

Ric, keep up the good work and let us know how the weekend went!

It is full swing wedding season and I had two this weekend, Friday and Saturday nights. I did drink at both events, and ate what was served as well. I did stick to the meal plan the rest of the week and I am not worried about drinking and eating what was served at the weddings. This is body for life and sometimes my life calls for changes to the plan!

I weigh in again tomorrow and will let you know how it is going. Weight was down 14lbs as of last week! Not bad for one month in! I am moving to a new apartment, so I might have to move my weigh in day until Tuesday if I don't get the scale unpacked tonight. I plan on doing measurements as well, to get a full picture of where I am at.

Talk to you soon and keep up the good work everyone!!

  • Sounds like you are doing great sticking to the program overall. I can understand the Armed services thing,  I was in great shape when I left the US Army (had almost a perfect PT score last time around of 275...300 is perfect) and then in civilian life kinda let my self go over the years so I applaud your courage and resolve in starting to return to a state of fitness and health.  Does the RAF stand for the Royal Airforce??? Just wondering I worked with the British postal unit in Dortmund West Germany during 83,   I was their Yank of the MOnth as they liked to call the exchange program. IT was great fun and quite a learning experience and a plaque from their unit.. The 3rd Postal Courier Unit.. still hangs on my wall in this room. (I also introduced them to the wonders of Baskin Robbins ice cream cake that I had especially made for the incoming New SGT Majors reception I was invited to). Great times over there and healthy active work to do with the heavy mail coming in.

  • I had a pretty good weekend--I imbibed a bit too much on Saturday but still managed to do a really tough lower body workout on Sunday.  Walking lunges are brutal!

I am doing my best to get my cardio in first thing in the morning but sometimes that just doesn't happen (like today).  So I will do cardio tonight.

I have this cool app for my iPhone that is helping to keep me motivated.  It's called Streaks and I mark on the calendar each day I work out and each day I eat right.  It makes me want to mark the calendar with that big red X.

JD5696--sounds like you handled the weddings very well.  I really like your philosophy--that's the only way to do this for the rest of our lives.

Hope everyone has a good week!

  • Hello everyone

    Day errr 31 I think?

Did upper body this morning, had a good session overall I think, certainly put enough effort in.

Welcome aboard GADawg34... more the merrier. What a goal you have waiting for you, a trip to Maui....very jealous.

WPBill, yes I was in the Royal Air Force, I worked as a Weapons Technician on the Harriers, on 3 (F) Sqn, before it was became a Typhoon Sqn. Loved it while I was in, got to see the world on the taxpayers expense, good parts and bad parts but enjoyed them all the same. I never was built big in the forces but could run and run without giving it a seconds thought, so with the knowledge that I can do it and the goal of getting rid of my gut, I thought I would give this challenge a go.

JD5696, I agree, sometimes you cant ammend your life to the program, I try as hard as possible too, but this weekend was a prime example, I could not train sunday due to being in Brighton with the better half and travelling home for 7 hours. But im here this weekend so will make up for the day extra off, so overall in the 12 week grand scale of things, I dont think it will make too much of a difference, as I work hard and stick to the diet the rest of the time religiously.

Had a good weekend, sat on the beach sat in Brighton, few cold beers and fish and chips lol

Now have a slightly burnt head and arms from sunday, when I was getting dragged round the shops, but needed a tan so I dont mind.

    Anyway time for my food

    See you tomorrow

    Ric

  • Hi Ric

Fully recovered from the Flu.Continued with the program on Saturday like you suggested. Decided not to backdate the days. Been going great guns since Saturday and ready for cardio tonight.

Sorry to hear about the work situation but glad you have turned it into a positive. Puts my "sniffles "setback into perspective a bit.

Good to meet all the new "threaders".

    Keep well and keep going!

  • Good morning all!  I'm on day 28 and positively STOKED at how incredible I feel.  I've lost 13 pounds so far but that's not even the best part to me.  To me, the best part is how great I feel and how much energy I have.

GADawg - sounds like you are in the same territory I am in.  I also did BFL about 10 years ago and had incredible results.  I actually did pretty well maintaining for 9 or 10 years.  Oh, I did yo-yo a bit back and forth, but never enough that I couldn't get it back off quickly.  Well, that was then.  I have totally let myself go in the last year and 1/2.  NO MORE!

Ric - glad to hear that you have such a positive outlook on the work situation.  Great outlook at turning a negative into a positive; just what BFL is all about!  Also glad to hear that Merv has perservered and managed to get right back in the saddle.  You are all so inspiring!

Good BFL day to you all!

  • Hello all, day 32 done...

Cardio this morning, although I had still one session before I increased the level, I decided to increase it slightly anyway, so started at level 5 10km/h ending at level 10 15 km/h, after the extra day off I thought the extra work would be good.

Hi Mervrsa, glad your back on track. As for the job front, no news yet but kinda hope it happens as I feel I need a change and dont see a future in my current job, as its a small company and I just count the hours by each day.

    Welcome to the post/blog amy

    See you all soon

    Ric

  • Hi all

Spent the whole day pulling up my pants and adjusting my shirt collar (lol). Thrilled at the progress.

Upper body tonight. Aim to improve my bench press if the benches are open tonight. Always difficult to keep to my plan because the the upper body workout area is always overcrowded.

Ric. Know the feeling. Been prosecuting criminals for 12 years now. Had enough of the murder and mayem. Studying management to try an reorient my career. Thankfully there are other avenues in my department to offer distraction.

Keep well all and stay motivated

    Merv
