In case you're feeling "imperfect" today.... may I present today's "Lesson for Life"

  • Last night my boys asked me if I would take them out to dinner, just the three of us. We hadn't been for a while, so I acquiesced, knowing I would be able to find healthy options at the location they chose. Well, I did. But I also overdid it a little bit. Some of the meat I had was fattier than I should have (brisket), and some of the veggies I KNOW had some butter to season them (I could taste it!) So even though I was able to pass on the rolls (which, 6 weeks ago, I would not have done), I still left knowing I ate too much and was off-plan.

It was the first time, as of C1W5D3, that I ate non-authorized food or off-plan on a non-Free day. I felt pretty lousy. I felt like I screwed up.

Then last night, as I sat down for my daily reflection and planning, I read today's (Day 32) Lesson-for-Life in the Success Journal: "It's what you do MOST of the time, not SOME of the time, that shapes you." The lesson, written of course by Bill Phillips, goes as follows:

"... No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. Therefore, no one can follow the Body-for-Life program perfectly. Even I miss workouts and meals from time to time, and even my plans sometimes get interrupted by traffic jams, delayed airline flights, meetings that take longer than expected, and even over-sleeping. But those are the excception, not the rule. Most of the time, I eat six nutritious protein- and carbohydrate-balanced meals a day. Most of the time, I exercise intensely, first thing in the morning. Most of the time, I keep a positive mindset and am optimistic. And most of the time, I feel healthy and energetic. Remember, it's what we do most of the time that shapes us, not what we do some of the time. So, don't worry if you're not 'perfect'."

I couldn't have felt more like my Someone upstairs was clapping me on the shoulder and saying, "You're fine. Pick yourself back up and plan a better tomorrow!" So if you're not perfect, know that you're in pretty good company. And get back on-plan!!!

"The limits you are living with right now, in every aspect of your existence, have been created by your mind. They are perceptions. And they are holding you back. You are capable of far more than you think you are." -Bill Phillips

  • awesome post Kimmie! thanks

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't, I give myself reasons why I can.

  • Thank's, Kimmie!

    You rock as usual!!

  • Great post and you had dinner with your kids. Which I have to say is more important than anything. Sitting down and enjoying a meal with family is a fantastic way to spend time and get back together. Taking you family desires into consideration is a part of being a good parent  or spouse. Never beat yourself up over giving

  • Thanks Kimmie for the reminder. One of my goals is to not continue eating poorly if I mess up for one meal. It is an easy downward spiral for me to throw in the towel for the day with one bad choice.

  • Kimmie-I had read that the other day (I'm on C2W6) and posted that for someone else. We have to learn to isolate a "mistake" and not dwell on it. Yesterday in my rush in the morning I forgot to put my lunch in the fridge at school, found it still sitting on the chair about 12:15, decided I definitely did not want food poisoning so I ate a school lunch...first time since before Christmas! Things happen, I've moved on...I made sure my lunch was in the fridge today and it tasted so much better than that cafeteria food!! :)

So good for you for moving on!

  • Funny how this is EXACTLY what I needed to read today!  I am on C1W4 and this week has been anything but perfect.  While my clean eating has been about 90% I have missed a few workouts and started wondering if this is going to cause me to just keep going like this for the next 8 weeks.  But, like your post says, it's hard to be perfect all the time so I re-evaluated my goals, re-motivated myself and am going to finish out the rest of this week on plan and head into week 5 with a renewed energy.  It didn't help that work has been so busy that I haven't had time to get on here much  :-(

Thanks for the post Kimmie - it was perfect reading for my imperfect day  :-D
