I just started Body for Life but between work and family I find the only time to get my workout in is at 5:30 AM. Not a lot of time to eat before then. Any suggestions? I have not been eating before but having a shake after.
I think this is pretty common for those of us with lots of responsibility; consider having a small snack prior to the workout. Perhaps you can get up a few minutes earlier (I know that sounds awful) but having a great workout will be worth getting up a few minutes earlier.
On cardio days I don't eat before I work out. I have found, though, I need the energy on weight training days and have a morning meal 2-3 hours before I hit the gym. If you read some of the meal plans of past champions many of them have a shake a half hour before their morning work out. This may work for you as well. Try it out and see how you feel. This is a journey for all of us. Remember focus on progress not perfection.
I've always done my workouts in the early morning.
In the beginning I had no problems doing both workouts on an empty stomach. After four challenges I got really sick on leg day after lifting heavy and have been having something on weight days since. Usually it's just a scoop of protein in water on my way out the door to the gym.

Thanks for the tip Champster, that explains my light headed feeling today after
a heavy Leg workout, I have reached a new LIFETIME high of 500lbs on the leg
press. Am I really almost 50? Will have to get some protein in me before lifting days,
as my weights keep going up.
Going strong and hard on week 5. Thanks BFL!!!!
Ron that's great on the lift PR. Heck 50 is nothing after you start doing BFL. It's a badge of honor and courage in my book. You see I'm right behind you...LOL!!
