Hi guys,
I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Bikram yoga and how this could fit in to the challenge?
I've been doing the Challenge for the past 3 weeks now and I'm starting to feel and see some differences ... I feel stronger, better, and I like myself more. I like lifting heavy and I really enjoy pushing myself with the cardio, and I don't want to let any of it slide.
The thing is, I'm a Bikram yoga instructor, and part of the deal is that, as a professional teacher, I'm expected to practice a minimum of 3 times per week. (This is no big deal, because I really love practicing and I would not be able to leave it out completely anyway, it's too much a part of my life.)
For anyone who hasn't tried it, Bikram is STRENUOUS exercise in a very hot, humid room; each class is 90 minutes long and you work hard. It's strength, flexibility, and cardio work, and while you don't get the "burn" that you do from lifting, you definitely feel it and it is HARD! (Even after 3 years, it's still hard!) It really takes it out of me too ... I sweat 3-5 litres in each class and I could NOT lift or run after a class.
So the question is ... I don't want to overtrain ... but I can't/won't give up yoga ... however, I want to shift some fat, so I don't want to give up pure cardio either ... and I still want the amazing BFL results! Something's gotta budge, but what?
At the moment, I'm THINKING maybe doing yoga on my cardio days, getting every session of lifting in without compromise, and then TRYING to include cardio as well on the days I do yoga. This will be hard, and I'm not sure it's a good idea, either ... and, well, I could really use some input here!
Thoughts?
If you want to burn fat hot environments are the worst possible place to exercise. A large part of our energy expenditure is for heating our bodies. If it's hot you don't have to burn those calories. Cold environments help fat burning. there may be other benefits to exercising in hot environments but fat burning is not one of them.
