I'm in week 5 and have seen some good progress for a woman (ha!) on BFL. I just wanted to hear if others are also drinking coffee.
I usually get up in the morning, have two glasses of water, do my workout and then hit the shower and get dressed before brewing a cup. I only use low-fat milk in mine. I don't eat until an hour has passed after the workout and I drink 12-14 glasses of water per day. I just can't seem to see any info in the book on this one.
Note: free days start with coffee and cream - yum!
I don't drink coffee, but do know you can. You might even have it before your workout, for a natural energy boost. 1-2 cups a day, assuming no sweeteners and a small amount of skim milk is just fine. Just remember it's a diuretic, so you might want to increase your water some. Most people on BFL still have their coffee. Bill Phillips even sells one (or did) that has whey protein in it.
thanks Jessica-Mighty Max! I'll have to look for the whey protein coffee. I'm in Canada and some products are not available here because we have different food and drug laws. I'll definitely increase my water though!
Whey coffee is a nice to have, but more for fun. Regular coffee is just fine.
Im a coffee fanatic! i drink about 4 good cups per day (skim milk), i add a tsp on sugar per cup, yup very naughty!! i did this in the past and didnt make a diff to my loosing weight, but perhaps i would get more results without the sugar?? could i use splender or whatever its called, the artificial sweeatner?
A tsp of sugar per cup and talking 4 cups a day is a lot. Seriously. That would make a difference.
i loooooooooove coffee. i ALWAYS have a cup after i workout in the morning and relax with it :) then i sometimes have a cup in the afternoon. i have taken to adding unsweetened almond milk to mine. it's only 35 calories for a whole cup and has no sugar added..plus it's really tasty :D
jessica - i've read things in the past plus learned in a nutrition class that adding even a little cream/milk, etc to coffee actually cancels out the diuretic effect. was hard for me to believe!
I have 2-3 cups of espresso a day, made at home, I drink a massive amount of water as I dehydrate easily.. I guess I add 8-10 cups of water a day for the 2 cups of coffee... does make me pee a lot though :-)
I went out walking through the city center, it happened just the other day. Sometimes Sydney Harbor in the winter, blows a little luck my way.
As a grad student coffee is the fuel that powers my brain (at least during work). I drink about 2 cups a day (during my good, fully-alert and energized days) to maybe 6 cups (during those really bad, rather not be at work days).
I typically don't use skim milk products (I had a family physician recommend 1% at minimum if using a lot of milk products).
I also find that coffee is a good energizer when doing early morning cardio when you want to exercise in a fasted state but need to be alert and focused not too long after waking up. A cup or two in the morning in place of breakfast will keep you revved up for an early workout but too much on an empty stomach may make you shaky and hurt your ability to perform.
I still drink coffee, but after my workouts. I have about two tablespoons of coffeemate creamer with it and add Splenda. I don't think I'd make it through my work day without it!!!
I love coffee and I could never give it up. lol. I have several cups during the day but I drink it black. I don't like adding anything to it. In fact, I think I'm going to pour myself another cup. ;)
Yup of course it would be better if i didnt have a sugar and ive already cut that in half. Thing i wonder though is, a tsp has 33 calories in it, so if i was having 4 then thats 132 calories, but if my calorie intake is correct as ive tried to work it out then im still below what i need to loose weight with the sugar
BFL isn't just about calories. If that were the case there wouldn't be a food list. By having the sugar you are making it so you can't eat enough of the carbs you do need.
I only drink coffee on days I want to function w/out a headache by 2 pm. Guess I'm an addict, but a nice cup w/ fat free 1/2 & 1/2 and some sugar free vanilla goes great w/ my boiled egg in the morning.
My recollection from the "Champion's Body for Life" text is coffee is, refined sugar and any cream or artificial creamer is out. The coffee can actually help speed up your metabolism, and I drink several cups of black coffee every day.
Once I discovered the joys of weight training, all other passions were transcended.
