I have been reading the research and all is good and fine but I cant find many people who have written reviews so I can gauge how this product really works. can some one who has been using the product just tell me what they think and is it worth it
Basic Supplementation for Ladies and Guys!
by: Michael Harris 2/25/2008
Supplementation is the third leg of the BFL stool, the first two being:
1. adhering to the 6 small meals a day diet, and,
2. doing high intensity exercise six days a week, with three resistance training sessions and three cardio sessions. But, what exactly should a trainee be using for her supplements?
To avoid confusion during the first challenge, Bill Phillips recommended using only the meal replacement supplements, a couple a day. That would be Myoplex Lite for women and Myoplex original or Myoplex deluxe for men. These are great sources of high quality whey protein, good carbohydrates and each shake has half the minerals and vitamins you need for the day.
For those who are in second or subsequent challenges, or who want to absolutely maximize their results and are not afraid of getting stronger by getting more muscle, here is what I recommend.
For ladies, Betagen twice a day, every day. One dose should be right after your workout and the other can be whenever you want. This will give you a supply of creatine for increasing muscle and decreasing recovery time, glutamine for helping with workout recovery, and HMB which does a lot of things, including the strength with which you work out. Understand please that the Betagen recommended dose is three a day, but for women two is enough, and it will really help. Sylvia Bortmann used Betagen throughout her challenge and still does. She swears by it. Why every day? Your muscles need it, that’s why!
Some ladies also use Thermodynamx, the EAS fat burner that helps with appetite suppression and raising the metabolic rate a bit. To me, it is a fairly minimal effect overall, and some people complain of heartburn or sleeplessness from it. The stuff is high quality, but it is more the nature of it that causes these symptoms. I think CLA probably works as well and has absolutely no side effects.
For guys, a full complement of Betagen works well--Bill Phillips takes it according to the original book. Or, to kick it up a notch, you might consider doing what I do, taking both Muscle Armor and Phosphagen Elite. These give you maximum recovery efforts from the MA, and excellent muscle growth and workout strength from the Phosphagen Elite. THe PE has not only creatine but also has beta alanine which will keep you from getting the lactic acid burn that occurs in calves, biceps and triceps and sometimes other muscles. SInce the burn is less because there is less lactic acid formed, then you can get a few more reps which makes for bigger muscles next time. If you combine MA and PE you will probably only need one dose of each a day, rather than the two that each of them recommend. Or, you could do what I do, as recommended by Brian Deeds of EAS, and that is to add a liquid or powder whey protein isolate to the supplement (use a compatible flavor) and make the supplementation a meal replacement instead. One scoop of orange flavored whey protein isolate and a scoop of orange PE, blended in a shaker cup, tastes a lot like an orange julius and is really the bomb. I can do the same thing with MA, only using a lemon flavor of WPI.
I usually take the PE before the workout and the MA after or at the end of the day. I realize that most people recommend PE after the workout, but it seems to work very well this way, And you have a ready supply of quickly digested protein (Whey protein isolate is the fastest digested protein there is).
There you have it, a quick primer on basics for women and guys! Questions?
legs - I appreciate you responding but nothing in this little blog you have ripped of from BFLmike shows the effects of CLA and whether in his or your opinion it works.
Im not trying to sound rude when I say if you dont have anything positive to say dont say anything at all but I really would like to know if this product is worth my time I know how to use the product I have done the research as I said before but I would really like to know people's opinions on the stuff. so please unless you have something directly relating to what I have asked do not copy and paste anymore of BFLmikes post. and again sorry if that was rude but I really want to know how people feel about this product.
Legs~What a wonderful response, copied and pasted, or not. I believe this is very worthwhile information, and most people asking the questions that Brian asked would find it very helpful.
To Brian-forums are sometimes a tricky way of communicating, we can't read one and other's minds-it would be helpful to instead of wasting your time when people don't give you the information your looking for say-it' would be easier, and more polite to ignore it...that way you don't come off appearing rude as you did above. Of course you can always direct the thread by clarifying your questions--everybody wins this way.
I have used CLA-I believe it is a subtle supplement in that there are no significant side-effects, but it did seem to help boost my fat loss percentages. As stated above, (and I would have typed this, too, by the way,) if you are someone who has difficulty with the side effects of Thermodynamix, CLA, in my opinion, would be a great alternative.

Amy thank you for replying. I dont think my question could be more clear and since you answered exactly what I was asking you obviously understood it. I could have been polite and not have answered but would you have posted anything if I didnt say anything? Legs loves to post all mike harris' old post which is fine the first hundred time you read them. there are about 5 people here that just love to keep reposting the same stuff over and over again without truly understanding what it means.
"....there are about 5 people here that just love to keep reposting the same stuff over and over again without truly understanding what it means...."
Brian: I am glad you have found the answer you needed. Bless you Amy for your timely answer. ;) Sorry to confuse you more Brian.
Please keep in mind that when I post info from former (and fabulous) Champions I do so, so that others, not only the person asking a question (you), benefit.
There is a neat feature called scrolling that helps a person bypass information they have read more than once.
This site has newbies on it each and every day, so bear with us "5" that repeat ourselves to help others with their challenges.
I do take CLA, Betagen and Fish oil. :)
Best of success with your inner and outer transformation.
I've done a lot of research on CLA too and from what I've read, the people who really benefit from CLA are those classified as overweight or obese. The trial study I read about said that those people over 8-10 weeks lost 2-4% more bodyfat. BUT, for those who are not in either of the categories above, CLA has shown no known benefits.

Andra that is pretty similar to what I have found, however a few of the studies I have read show that there was improvement for people who are under the threshold of overwiegth. I one study I found showed that people with a mean bmi of 22 had a decrease as well. I dont know where I am on the BMI I havent been in for an exam in a while but I think Im about 20%. I have also found that it works much better in women than men so that is why I want to know what people think of this. I bought a bottle i guess ill just use it and see how it goes...thanks for your response
I used CLA in a past challenge and it did have a dramatic effect on my fat loss and I am continuing to use it during my current challenge b/c of what it did for me in the past. I can't remember specific numbers, but the CLA and Betagen helped me...
There are a couple of people on this forum, Faithful Renee and Sharon-WonderWoman who use CLA and have had remarkable results. You can check out their profile pages if you wish...
I'm not sure about your stats in terms of how much body fat you want to lose so like with what Andra said, the research does show that the product was used for overweight individuals so it would maybe depend on what YOUR goals are...
There are several people on this forum who have saved tons of worthwhile information in their files in an effort to help individuals with questions. In this case, Legs was trying to help...there are new people on the forum and sometimes posting one of BFLMike's blogs is the best way to go when they don't have more information on the individual.
I agree with Legs, if there is something that isn't related to what you are needing, skip it...
I do know that there is another thread on here about CLA, because she and I were asking questions as well about CLA...maybe your answer lies there.
DebMO :0) Blessed to be a Blessing...
Absolutely I would have answered your question-it was the topic that drew me in, not your post to legs. ;~)
Have a great day, and let us know how the CLA works out for you...and just keep on scrollin' if something doesn't apply-responding to how much someone's post is NOT what you wanted, only wastes your time here on this great website.
BMI is a measurement of body scale weight and height. It does not focus on LEAN MUSCLE mass. Skinny fat is different from lean strong bodies. Keep that in mind and dont worry about BMI so much. :)
Thanks for your opinion about the CLA. my current goals are fat loss and toning. my goals my change depending on how this challenge progresses. The research does for the most part only focus on overweight individuals which is pretty much the bases of me asking what people feel about the product. As far as legs comments, I understand what she was doing however Legs comments did not answer the question I asked.. In fact, it had nothing to do with the question I asked. I want everyone in this program to succeed becasue it is a tough program and I also answer threads to help people. But the thread was posted to talk about CLA not PH elite or betagen. I asked a question to benefit myself and hopefully others who have the same question. If you asked a question about how to do lower body work outs and I gave you all bunch of information about upper body work out it would be pretty pointless dont you agree?? the information could be right but it doesnt answer the question.
sorry for the confusion I some time use BF% synonymously with BMI just to simplify things I was mainly saying that I have not gotten a BF% measurement in a while I am just guessing what my BF% is not really based on BMI just previous knowledge of my body
You're welcome. Definitely go with the BF% reading. BMI is okay if it's used for the average person but for those who have a lot of muscle mass it's very inaccurate.
(all of this is in a very soft voice as I am speaking) Not to keep the issue going, but on Legs behalf and the 5 others out there who might put post out there that are BFLMikes or for that mater anyones...I know even though I might of seen them and read them once or twice, I always get something new from them each time. I am sure someone saw this thread and came to it and looking to read something on CLA and actually learned something about CLA and also about supplements from Legs post. Even though a lot of use have seen many of the copied and paste post there are a lot of new challengers out there that have not and will benifit from them. (soft voice still speaking)
Hope everyone has a great Saturday night.
