CLA and Betagen

  • so I am going to start taking cla and betagen to see if I can lose the last 5% of body fat I want to lose.  Does anyone use these products and what are your opinions of them.

    Betagen definately has helped me with strength and I notice the visual difference after stopping taking it and the water leaves my body.

  • Legs: I am 4 days into Challenge 2 and I just recieved the cla in the mail today I am going to start taking it tomorrow.  How much betagen did you use... I was doing the research on creatine and HMB and the betagen seems to have the appropriate amount of HMB but not creatine for muscle gains.  I dont know much about either. any reason for not taking it anymore?

  • Brian - take the CLA 3x a day - NOT around workout....so if you workout in the a/m, take it the 3, 4 and 5th meal.

    Betagen can be taken immediately following a workout, then 2 times later, any time.

    Basic Supplementation for Ladies and Guys!

    Supplementation is the third leg of the BFL stool, the first two being:

    1. adhering to the 6 small meals a day diet, and,

    2. doing high intensity exercise six days a week, with three resistance training sessions and three cardio sessions. But, what exactly should a trainee be using for her supplements?

    To avoid confusion during the first challenge, Bill Phillips recommended using only the meal replacement supplements, a couple a day. That would be Myoplex Lite for women and Myoplex original or Myoplex deluxe for men. These are great sources of high quality whey protein, good carbohydrates and each shake has half the minerals and vitamins you need for the day.

    For those who are in second or subsequent challenges, or who want to absolutely maximize their results and are not afraid of getting stronger by getting more muscle, here is what I recommend.

    For ladies, Betagen twice a day, every day. One dose should be right after your workout and the other can be whenever you want. This will give you a supply of creatine for increasing muscle and decreasing recovery time, glutamine for helping with workout recovery, and HMB which does a lot of things, including the strength with which you work out. Understand please that the Betagen recommended dose is three a day, but for women two is enough, and it will really help. Sylvia Bortmann used Betagen throughout her challenge and still does. She swears by it. Why every day? Your muscles need it, that’s why!

    Some ladies also use Thermodynamx, the EAS fat burner that helps with appetite suppression and raising the metabolic rate a bit. To me, it is a fairly minimal effect overall, and some people complain of heartburn or sleeplessness from it. The stuff is high quality, but it is more the nature of it that causes these symptoms. I think CLA probably works as well and has absolutely no side effects.

    For guys, a full complement of Betagen works well--Bill Phillips takes it according to the original book. Or, to kick it up a notch, you might consider doing what I do, taking both Muscle Armor and Phosphagen Elite. These give you maximum recovery efforts from the MA, and excellent muscle growth and workout strength from the Phosphagen Elite. THe PE has not only creatine but also has beta alanine which will keep you from getting the lactic acid burn that occurs in calves, biceps and triceps and sometimes other muscles. SInce the burn is less because there is less lactic acid formed, then you can get a few more reps which makes for bigger muscles next time. If you combine MA and PE you will probably only need one dose of each a day, rather than the two that each of them recommend. Or, you could do what I do, as recommended by Brian Deeds of EAS, and that is to add a liquid or powder whey protein isolate to the supplement (use a compatible flavor) and make the supplementation a meal replacement instead. One scoop of orange flavored whey protein isolate and a scoop of orange PE, blended in a shaker cup, tastes a lot like an orange julius and is really the bomb. I can do the same thing with MA, only using a lemon flavor of WPI.

    I usually take the PE before the workout and the MA after or at the end of the day. I realize that most people recommend PE after the workout, but it seems to work very well this way, And you have a ready supply of quickly digested protein (Whey protein isolate is the fastest digested protein there is).

    There you have it, a quick primer on basics for women and guys! Questions?

  • I've got a question on this - I just completed week 4 and have been taking CLA and Betagen for the last 3 weeks. My question is should I take the supplements on my free day as well? I'm not sure if it does any good to take them on the day that I do not work out... or if I'm messing things up by not taking them that one day a week. What's the rule for supplements and free days?

  • Spittdogg...I have heard that you continue to supplement your body. So I am doing that so it stays in my system????

  • spittdog, the research on the product only has information on people who take the pills 7 days a week.  you can try and not take it on your free day and let me know  how it goes for you.  or if you havent been taking iton your free day how do you feel its worked?

    I'm wondering what kind of water retention the Betagen causes?  If you take it every day does that mean you're carrying around extra water weight the entire 84 days of your challenge??  Yikes!

    Btw, how in the world do you keep up with all these different threads?

    Betagen-we're "told" to go off Betagen 2 weeks prior to finishing challenge to remove the water in the muscles so there is a "more cut look" for the after pics...Can't wait to see my "cut look" lol!

    I mostly go to the coffee crew and Faithful GBers threads to communicate with everyone then when I have the time (like this wkd and today) I scroll through and see if I can respond to the others...

    I took betagen and cla my first free day. It became a hassle since my free day i spend with family. We go to restaurants so i just stop taking it on my free day. As i have stated in other post after seeing the results my wife wants to start taking cla and betagen. So I would recommend dont take it save it. it will make the product last you just a lil bit longer. lol

    I take Betagen 3x daily every day. It helps your cells stay hydrated, and function at its best. I was told it takes about 10 days for it to leave your system and that is why some stop taking in in hopes for a leaner and more defined after picture.

    My lower tummy is a bit more soft while on Betagen. I dont really notice/have come used to the way I appear on Betagen. I will say though, that after stopping the Betagen I really noticed a change in my abs and arms. As far as scale weight? I think it would be very minimal - having said that, I guess it would depend on how many cells you had to fill up! (final answer - I really dont know - it wasnt an issue with me - I hate my scale most days)

    I recommend Betagen.

    BTW - I dont keep up with threads as much as I would like to. Im just catching what I can, when I have time. Keep asking questions, email people directly if you want, and get a variety of opinions if something just doesnt sit well with you. We are all wired differently and what works for one, may not work as well for another. You have to feel confident and content with what you are putting into your body. Take care  - BFL style!

  • I get mine through the GNC stores. Cheaper through mail order I think but the USA may still be on backorder. Ask the company before entering personal info.
