If anyone follows the book by the book, you would have your first meal after your workout in the morning. Has anyone noticed any muscle loss from not eating pre workout?
just giving this a bump......
Charlie - I've never followed that part of the book - of course I do most of my workouts in the evenings on week-nights. But even on Sat. or Sun., I have to eat to get my system going. Over the long run, this won't matter much, as the energy balance will dominate. But, I can see where it might hold a little edge for a shorter term i.e. the 12 week challenge, in so far as fat burning is concerned. If you're already in good condition, I would think it would be detrimental not to put in some calories before a heavy weight lifting session.
Once I discovered the joys of weight training, all other passions were transcended.
thanks jacium. i've always done my workouts first thing and had my 1st meal after my workout....just wondering if i am short changing myself by not taking some whey pre/post workout
Sam boat as the other gent Charlie, most of the week I work out after work in the evening because I start work so early. SO I have to plan the meals accordingly, I do try not to eat anything other than a low cal MYoplex bar just before a workout though.
Charlie, you are not short changing yourself. Make sure that your 6th meal has the right amount of protein and carbs and eat or drink it right before you close your eyes. Your body will process it and then when you wake up drink water and get ready but don't eat until you are finished with your work out. That way you are building lean muscle and you will build it much faster. You want your body to focus on your work out and not processing food. It will take your blood flow and energy to metabolise food if you eat prior to your work out. I promise you will get used to it. Drink tons of water. Makes you feel full.
If you work out at any other time than it is ok to have a protein replacement shake prior to working out.
Good luck my friend!
I've done all of my workouts, well, last week, the were evening, but the other 22 weeks have been 530 am. No eating before that one. Now, thing is I have been focusing more on fat loss first.... muscle tone / gain 2nd. After I get tone and get the weight / fat off, then I could see where I would no longer be wanting to lose fat / weight, so I wouldnt be on the exact, by the book BFL... And I'm probably going to be switching to evening workouts after this week anyway. Knowing if I dont stick with them, I WILL have to go back to early AM ones..
