Day 1 of the new program is complete! It felt great to do something a little bit different. I worked my chest and triceps untill they couldn't do another rep, and I'm sore already! I think it's going to take a whole week to recover from this one, which is what I was aiming for since I don't work those body parts out until next Monday!
I had a great week, and stayed on plan the whole time. I stepped on the scale this morning and I've lost 14lbs since last Monday. I was really bloated from the layover between challanges, and now I'm back to where I ended C2 minus 2lbs.
Good morning folks! Monday morning confessional:
Last week sucked. I completely failed to start C3. It started with not being able to get to the grocery store on Sunday because of working on the house... then the excuses just kept flowing. Sorry everyone. I'm a week behind, even though I was the one that pushed us to all start back up together.
This week, no excuses. Went grocery shopping last night. Did HIIT cardio this morning, already had 1L of water, just finished up meal 1 (whole wheat peanut butter banana sammich).
Beginning weight: 195.2lbs (I think about 4lbs of that came from this weekend)
No other measurements or photos yet.
Ready to kill this C3.
Had a great run on the elliptical machine this morning. I covered 4.1 miles. Now all that is left to do is stick to the diet plan for the day. That's been pretty easy for me lately. I really feel focused right now! My chect is sooooooore from Monday. I think the new training split is going to do the trick.
JR- It's ok man. At least you're on it now.
Everyone else- Don't be shy......
Awesome. Great work Justin. I hate that we go through cycles, but it's great when we are on the "really focused" cycle. I feel a good cycle coming on right now!
So here's a story/ poll the audience question for the CC'ers: There this girl at the gym... (how many good stories start out with some similar line??). She is RIPPED! And not in the testosterone injection kind of way, but the "DAAAYYYYUUUMMMM" kind of way (or the "Yeah, she squats" kind of way). Mrs. JR said the same thing when we've all been in the gym at the same time. Anyway, this morning I was rocking the dumbbells looking like a total meat-head (UPWO day), and she's kicking tail with a leg workout beside me. I've been really curious what she's doing, how she eats, how long she's been doing this... 'cause who wouldn't want those kind of results! So between sets I stop and say, "Good morning, I'm Joseph." (offer a handshake) "Hey, I'm Stephanie" (weird pause) "I just wanted to say hello. I see you in here kicking ass all the time." "Yea, I try." "Well, you're doing freaking awesome. Can I ask about your diet?" (HERE'S THE KICKER)... she says, "Well, actually I don't pay that much attention to it!!! I mean I don't count calories or anything, I just notice when I start getting soft, I cut back..."
1- This conversation didn't feel nearly as awkward as it reads.
2- Am I a total creeper?
3- I'm pissed!!!! This girl is less than 15% BF, and she "doesn't pay much attention" to her diet????
Sometimes I don't know whether to be impressed by people with great genes or pissed. I come from a long line of fat men... But hey, life wouldn't be fun if there was no challenge!
Pretty solid UBWO this morning (BFL style). Definitely hit my 10s on chest (ouch!), and a great back workout trying to focus on the negative. Fully expect some soreness tomorrow. Abs are sore today after HIIT and abs yesterday.
Side note: 8 years of marriage today!!! We're pretty awesome. (Promise I wasn't trying to pickup the chick at the gym).
JR- Congrats on the anniversary!
Ha! Don't you just hate when it comes so easy to some people!? My guess is that she may not be paying that much attention to her diet, but her diet is pretty clean anyway. I doubt that she's eating McDonald's for a couple of meals a day or surely she wouldn't be that lean. She may naturally have really good eating habits because her parents were health nuts and she grew up that way. I don't think you're a creeper for asking. However... If you want to get to that level take some pictures of her so you can post them on here and we can see what you're talking about. Ha!
Also... You better be careful rocking those dumbbells and looking like a meathead if you're still at Plnet Fitness. You wouldn't want to set off the lunk alarm!
OMG - you guys totally crack me up! I love reading your posts. Sorry that I haven't been more active since we started this challenge...life.
I am sticking to the plan and doing really well. I have eaten clean, gotten my water in most days, and haven't missed a workout. That doesn't sound too impressive right?!?! Let's see if this helps my "impressive level" - I just returned from London for a 4 day work shop. I was the facilitator working with business users for a new procurement system that was turned on yesterday. We put 4,000+ users on it from 7 different countries. The senior reps and team leads all met me in the UK for our last planning/training session. No missed workout, no crappy British food...
Still not impressed...ok. My husband is in Kazakhstan for 3 weeks on a military training exercise. I start consulting for a new project Monday in Calgary. Yup - Calgary CANADA! We will be relocating there over labor day for 18-24 months and I am solely responsible for getting us ready for that trip. Work visas, house rental, close up the house here, set up everything there, packing, licensing my dogs in Canada, finding a dog walker (yards don't come easy in Calgary), and all of the other "stuff" that goes with a move BUT magnified because it's an international move.
But wait...there's more :-) My daughter and her fiance moved to town in the spring. They were out of options and needed help. Broke with no jobs. We were helping them make a new life and start over here. Got them both jobs with friends at decent wages with benefits. Loser fiance up and quit his job without a back up plan. That was over a week ago and he is still not working. His father moved to town and is now crashing with them on their couch since they have a 1 bedroom apartment. He brought a pit bull which they are NOT allowed to have in their apartment. I was managing their finances and helping them get out of debt. They decided (by they I really mean the dead beat fiance) to close their checking account and pull all of their money out of the savings account. I can't tell you how many hours I spent getting all of their bills and debt payments set up to go out automatically from that account. Now - nothing is set up. The kicker, idiot fiance tells our neighbor that if they get pregnant, we will help them out financially. We wouldn't "abandon" a grandchild like we abandoned them. WHAT????? For starters, at the end of March, we bought her a used car, paid for her security deposit and 1st month's rent on the apartment, put money in their checking account as a safety net, paid for all of the ridiculous "start up" fees associated with establishing utilities, AND stocked their refrigerator and pantry. Somehow that equates to me abandoning them because they were on a budget and had a "get debt free" plan? STRESSFUL!!!!
Come on...now you have to be a little impressed that I have stuck with the plan :-) If not, I am and that is good enough for me!!!!
Congrats on 8 years of marital bliss. I will hit 21 on the 15th. That is hard for me to believe most days. It hasn't always been easy but it has always been worth it. That's how I feel about the journey that I am on with BFL as well.
As for chicka at the gym....one word for girls like that - beeotch!!!! Just a hater deep down and extremely jealous. My guess, she totally played off the discipline that she actually has around her work outs and her diet.
Jet lagged and very disappointed in my youngest offspring but still did a great HIIT workout this morning. Well - as good as a HIIT workout can be. I just still hate the cardio thing. Used to love it until my 4th knee surgery. I was a distance runner, triathlete, and soccer coach. Now, it just hurts all the time. The extra weight makes it hurt that much more creating a very counter productive and vicious cycle. Working on trying to convince myself that I actually enjoy the cardio. I always feel amazing for doing it and I suppose that will just have to be enough until the weight comes off and it hurts less and less!
Sounds like you boys have some awesome workout programs planned. I am following the BFL plan still since I don't have the time to put something else together for right now. Perhaps after this challenge before the next :-)
Hope you all have a terrific BFL day!
Sharon- Holy Cow! I'm very impressed that you've stuck withit through all of that. You have to be the busiest person I've ever heard of. AND... You and your husband are some major world travelers! I went to Mexico once.........
WTH is that guy's problem!? Absolutely no shame at all..... Sounds like if it hadn't been for you they would have been living on the street. Why did he quit his job? Did he even give a reason? How old is this guy? Wow is all I can really say....
I wrote a bunch of stuff here last night and it would not go through, so this might come in a few paragraphs. First off I want to say hi to all of you, JR, Justin, Sharon, Shorty, DavidF41 and Gina. If I missed someone, so sorry.
Thank you all for your welcoming me back here with you again.
JR- Happy Anniversay, that is great to be together 8 years. I hit 4 years this past June. Lots of ups and downs but it's worth. About that girl in the gym, my thought is that she probably works there and didn't want you to know her plan, or she like's women and rather not tell you anything, or she has good geins. I don't know maybe she's shy, seems like she should of told you what she's doing. If a guy came up to me and asked me, I'd tell him...Just my thought, and my spelling sucks, sorry.
you have done so much for your daughter, I went through the same thing with mine a few years back. Her husband got layed off and didn't work for 2 years. He kept drawing unemployment checks and we helped them with rent, food and gave our car to them. It was always one thing or another. They even barrowed money from her gramdma and never paid her back. My daughter was very sick and the time and as parents we just want to help all we can.
I know you will be okay about your daughter, but the guy. You have done so much for them, maybe you should have a firm talk with them, cause you were helping them out with all they needed and now your going to move away. I will do some praying for you and your family. Hang in there girl, things will get better. Boy I couldn't do half the things your doing.
Boy that photo of your elbow looks really bad, I guess we all said that. Hope it is all healed up now. I have never had Bursitis, but I have heard it is very painful. Congrads to your wife for losing 16lbs. I have only lost 3 in two challenges. :( but I am sure this 3rd one will get me to where I want to be..You are doing a good gob too.
Justin- cutting 6inches of your belt is really fantastic. I need to lose more but just can't seem to get it going. I like sweets and I am eating those protein bars, but the carbs are kinda high. You guys seem to me that you lose the inches faster.
I wanted to tell you that I remember way back in C1 or C2 you were talking about hunting deer. Well I am a hunter also.
Sounds funny huh...I have a 308 Lightweight rifle and put in for 2 draws, but I didn't get them. I am planing of going up in Sept. with my brother to show my husband that I can shoot a rifle. He laughs...I will have to show you a pix of my deer, if I get one.lol
Shorty- how are you doing here? Hope all is going well for you to on your workouts. I use a pool 2 or 3 times a week. Its the Elks Rehap. pool. I can't lift weights, so I do workouts in the pool. I don't get the workouts like everyone else, but the plan is to keep moveing...
cont. the plan for me is to keep moving. My muscles have dissipated some and I have to get them back. Its pretty hard but by following the plan day to day somethings bound to happen :0).
So right now we are in the process of packing and moving. Got to be out by next week. Then were moving into my Mom's house for2 or 3 months. So my drive to workout will be 2 times a week which will be 100 miles round trip each of those days. Got to do it. If I don't, I will get stiff and hurt. So I will be packing up the computer and storing it, but will use my Mom's to keep in touch with everyone. Sorry about the spelling again and talk to you in a few days.
Real-Life examples of people performing heroically under pressure can be seen right here. ALL OF YOU.
You all are in my prayers...:o)
Morning all! This is going to be a quickie on hump day, eh ohhhh, but I only have a few minutes this morning…son of a...
Jr, congrats on the 8 years! Did you two celebrate by doing more house projects? Or wait, by you watching your wife do more house projects? And I'm totally jealous of the girl at the club. Beotch. At first I thought you were going to say she said that she followed the BFL program. Then she would've been cool - but yeah, not so much. Face shove.
Justin, you are on fire this C3!! Love it. How's the chest feeling? Still worked? And i laughed at the "I went to Mexico once…" Hey, didn't you visit the "Titanic" recently?
David, where are you my friend? Off driving around in the new big rig, just being awesome, I suppose.
Sharon, sounds like you have a very boring life. Not. And ah, holy balls, how have you not rung your daughter, her fiance - and wait his father's?!?! - necks?! Ah yeah, sounds slightly stressful…sheesh, hang in there. I'm guessing your workouts turn into fabulous vent sessions! (Jr, I'm high fiveing you to "no kids"!) Damn, Sharon, keep being awesome sister.
Laurie, you also sound like a damn good Mom, helping your daughter and her husband out without cracking open a can of whoop don-kee! And awesome job on having a plan in your hectic next few months!! We're here for ya girl! I used the pool a lot when I was in college. Loved it! Such a great workout.
As for me, things are going good. Not stellar, but good. I'm sick of the treadmill and doing incline runs, so for my HIIT yesterday, I went on a long walk with a few run bursts. Definitely not as good as what I should've done, but I just wanted to enjoy the trails/weather….so I did! Long walks totally recharge me - such a great outlet. However, my HIIT suffers. Today I'll hit the weights hard. As for my diet, I'm doing great, but feel like next week I'm going to try to go as clean as possible. It's such a puzzle for me!
Have awesome days CCers!!! You all = da bomb!
Had a great back and bicep workout this morning! I'm feeling several muscles in my back that never got sore in my old routine. I'm loving dedicating more time to each muscle group and working the muscles from all different angles. I think it's just what the Dr. ordered!
Laurie- You sound like you've been pretty dang busy! I gotta give you a lot of credit for driving that far to do your workouts. It takes a lot of dedication to put that much time in the drivers seat to go workout. Deer hunter eh? Yeah, you need to get some time in the woods and drag out some high quality protein! That .308 will knock them down from a loooooong way off. So far in C3 most of the protein I have eaten has come from deer meat I have in the freezer. You can't get a leaner red meat. I have to try to get it all ate before October when I'll start hitting the woods again and restock. Bow season begins here 9/1/13, but it's still too hot and there is lots of mosquitos. I like to wait until about the 2nd week of October to get started.
Shorty- My chest is feeling pretty good while sitting around doing nothing, but if I flex it hard I can still tell it is sore. Yeah, I got to go all the way to Branson to see that Titanic replica...... Ha! Does that compare to London? So, you're getting bored with the treadmill? What other cardio options do you have available? I know you said there's a gym as part of your condo fees. What do they have available? If you want to let off some steam you could get a freestanding punching bag and some boxing gloves. I had a big bag in my garage at one time, and a round timer that I wore around my neck. That is some fierce cardio punching, kicking, elbowing, and kneeing it. It's a total body workout that'll leave you standing in a pool of sweat. If I had trails available like I used to have in IA I'd be flying down them on my bike every day! If there are any hills and stuff then you have natural intervals.
Good morning Everyone! Awesome to check in and have several new posts! Also, good to see CC'ers at the top of the list again. Where we belong!
Sharon, you're freaking awesome. I can't believe you have time to eat, much less eat right and workout!
Laurie- I like you're thought "she likes women"... Although I'm not sure if that makes her more or less attractive ;)
Shorty- good to hear from you! Go us with no kids!
Justin- Did my best Justin Gilmer impression this morning with HIIT cardio on the stairmaster.
Finally found a new gym. Definitely not crowded, tons of quality equipment. It's not brand new, but I'm not missing anything that I need like with Planet Fitness. It's more of an athletic club than a gym. 25m lap pool, tennis courts, racketball, and mostly old folks!!! I love living in a Navy/Retirement community.
Will not miss Planet Fitness in the least (well, maybe the eye candy).
Sorry Shorty. Totally blew by your comments on your workout. I hate the treadmill. I still do it some because it's a great workout, but I hate it! Variety is key. Don't beat yourself up over the walk, sounds like it's just what you needed. Throw a few more intervals in to make sure you keep your heart rate up while you're walking. Also, do you have a stationary bike or actual bicycle? That can be a good way to mix it up. The stair master is killer!!! Heavy bags make for a crazy intense workout... I've never been able to complete 20 minutes.
Do you play racketball? You can get insane workouts on a racketball court.
