Gymless in Boston?

  • Hi there,

I'm new to the Boston area (Waltham) and starting the challenge tomorrow.  I realize that as I do this I am very lucky to have a gym membership.  There were many times when I've tried to stay fit without a lot of resources.  One way I did this was by bike riding.  I now have a gym, but little to no storage (and a baby, so relatively little free time) and I would like to GIVE SOMEONE MY BIKE.

I have what I think is a really nice women's Marin mountain bike.  I bought it about 6 years ago but I think it's still in pretty good shape because I usually stored it indoors.  I'm 5'9" so it's sized to fit a frame like mine.  It does need a little work- new tire tubes and it needs the handle bars securely reattached.  They were removed when we moved across country.  I would recommend for safety reasons that this be done by a bike shop.  The wheels are detachable, it has a nice cushy seat, and I also have a helmet and a bike lock.

I would really like to give this to someone doing BFL who doesn't have other resources to do cardio, or can't afford a gym membership.  It would also be convenient if someone lived fairly close to Waltham and could pick it up or meet me somewhere near by.  I would also like to pass it along this week sometime since it's sitting in my living room :).  I may get no replies to this or I may get a ton.  I'll respond first come first serve.  I really hope I can pass it on to someone who will enjoy it.

  • That's awesome!  You've already mastered Bill's principle of reciprocity.  Giving from the heart is wonderful -- I'm sure it will come back to you in myriad ways!  Hope somebody jumps on the offer -- especially the "right" person who will be oh-so-grateful!  Blessings happen in such ways.  Best of luck on the BFL path...
