tishs,
Female bed-head, weight, clothing ... these are NOT being noticed by the guys. By the other women, yes, which is why you think the guys might be. But pretty much we are busy figuring out who is the alpha male, or focused on lifting weights. Even the straight guys are comparing muscle at the gym. I think the only thing that would cause specific attention on the male/female spectrum would be a woman wearing something unusually revealing; otherwise you're just somebody who might hijack the good weight machine.
Over the hump of week 4, this week seems to be flying by pretty quick too! How is everyone doing today? I had a solid cardio workout on the arc trainer today.
Mythmere- I like your response about how people notice each other in the gym, good way to put it! Did you start your challenge on 5-7-2012 too or near it?
Strong Finisher- That's really cool you workout with your husband, he seems to keep you pretty entertained at the gym. I'd like to see your weight lifting facial expressions.
I had a cool story to share today. Last night I played guitar and sang with a friend at a local open mike. it was literally one of the best responses I have ever gotten playing live. The crowd went pretty crazy and there was a good 75-100 people there! As I was walking into the gym this morning, an attractive young woman had walked up to me and asked me if I was in the band that played at the open mike last night, she got so excited and acted like I was a total rockstar. It was a pretty awesome coincidence because the gym is really far from where we played, and had I walked in 30 seconds earlier or later, she probably wouldn't have seen me. Anyway it boosted my self esteem for the day :)
I hope you all have a great day today and a great workout, what are your plans for this upcoming free day???
I find it funny watching other people at the gym. One guy yesterday was really entertaining to watch out of the corner of my eye. He seemed to be lifting pretty significant weights on the shoulder press machine, and certainly didn't have the physique to match, but instead of staying seated the whole time and just using his arms, half way into the lift he used his legs standing up to lift the weight. He would also only lift when he thought people weren't watching. Between each set he would do the slow side-to-side body builder waddle past me lifting only 1/4 of the weights on the dumbbells (but properly), and just raising his eyebrows. Give it a few more weeks and I think I will play a game with him!!! ;-)
My aerobic work-out went well this morning and I did 10min on the bike and 10min immediately after on the treadmill. My legs felt like logs when I hopped on the treadmill but came right after a few minutes. Legs tomorrow morning and looking forward to it. I must admit that I did lack some motivation this morning. The last couple of weeks have been really rare sunshine, so getting out of bed at 6am and walking to the gym in shorts and t-shirt was great. This morning though it was grey, light rain, and cold!! Add to that not sleeping the best, and I really did struggle to get moving. One of you made a suggestion I think it was of more carbs in the evening. I think I'll try it. Thank you.
Nice work Jason on having a hot chick come up to you at the gym. Lucky ***!!! :-)
In regards to girls in the free-weights area, there are actually none when I'm there in the morning. They all seem to be walking on the treadmill reading a magazine or using the elliptical trainer watching the TV's. At other times I think it's great when I see women in the free-weights or machine parts though as they seem to be more serious about getting fit, and they usually develop a more extroverted personality over time which is nice and become part of the 'group'. I pretend I'm in the 'group'!!
It's a long weekend this weekend for us in the UK, however I think I will take Sunday pretty easy. May go for a light swim to give the muscles a break followed up by some icecream.......or maybe I will just settle for lazing in the park with an icecream. Yep, the later seems the better option. Nighty night!!
Gee, the "B" word is classified as a swear word on here, as indicated by the 3 stars (***) in my last post. That's part of everyday Australian language. Sorry if I offended anyone. Oops!! :-)
Way to go Jason the rockstar! That is pretty cool - that would boost anyone's self-esteem! You might have even been doing the body builder waddle after that! Haha! I've never heard that term before but it is quite accurate and makes me laugh! I'm taking my free day tomorrow and sleeping in! Yes!
Been missing everyone's posts the last few days. I was out of town w/ my parents and didn't get on my laptop. Still hanging in there and back to the plan. Funny stories of the gym:)
Congrats Jason on the celebrity-ness! lol
I feel very intimidated when I go to the gym and there are guys there. I think it's b/c I'm so heavy and I feel like they are looking at me and laughing. I know they aren't, but I'm just very self conscious. I wish my hubby would go w/ me. That would be fun. But one of my hubs best friends is usually there and I speak to him.
Did my cow-entertaining HIIT workout yesterday evening. LOL:) So feeling on top of the world when I finished. Going to the gym this afternoon for som UBWO. Got off on my workout schedule while out of town w/ my parents, but we had to take my dad to have a small tumor removed and biopsied.
Florida in 2 wks and 1 day! So excited, yet wishing I could have 4 more wks! lol
Rock hard and eat clean today!
Shannon
Thank you for the encouragement everyone!
Tassietim- Awesome to hear about your gym story! Your Sunday plan sounds really nice and relaxing! Keep up all the great work you are doing with your workouts. I think I'm definitely going to go for some ice cream this Sunday as well! What part of Australia are you from? My brother in law is from Brisbane.
Strong Finisher- I wouldn't mind sleeping in on Sunday either :)
Shannon- Keep up the amazing work, you have come so far! Florida is amazing. As soon as you get here, you are going to want to move here :)
It's a late night here in Florida, just wanted to tell everyone to have a good night and a great workout tomorrow, we're almost finished with week number #4
Looks like lazing in the park is off for Sunday. It's the Queens 60th Jubilee celebrations and I'll now be attending a British / Olympics themed party at some friends place which will stretch into Monday (Public Holiday). Therefore I will now have to do my UBWO Sunday morning with my free day starting later that afternoon with extended 'recovery' on Monday. The Jubilee celebrations are pretty massive, as the Queen has had a pretty respectable innings of 60 years on the throne. As an Australian she is also our Head of State, like Canada and other Commonwealth countries (about 70 of them). So a good excuse for a party I think.
My aerobic exercise went well this morning. There was another major swimming event on this morning so the stands were packed. Always good motivation doing my pre and post stretches overlooking the competition pool. In 2002 the Manchester Aquatic Centre where I train was the swimming venue for the Commonwealth Games up here, so it is a pretty impressive place. Anyway that is enough Jubilee / British trivia for you all this morning.
Jason - I thought my username would give it away. I'm from Tassie (Tasmania). You know, the one with the devil. :-)
TassieTim- my bad, I do remember you saying something about Tasmania in the beginning, but I wasn't exactly sure. Sounds like you have some amazing plans for the weekend! Have fun and let us know how it goes!
Off to do my final cardio of the week, hope you all have had a good week, we're about a 3rd of the way done! Keep up the great work everyone! We'll see you next week for week number 5!
Had a great cardio workout today! I was able to increase to 6.1 mph for my level 10, and I felt strong! Right now, my first interval is to walk at 4 mph and jog the other 3. I don't know if I should just increase the speeds of my other 3, or try to eliminate the walking interval - that scares me a little! Anyway - congrats everyone on making it to the end of week 4! Woo-Hoo! I'm really looking forward to the next 4 weeks and hoping to see some progress - after my first 2 weeks, I haven't seen anything - in fact, I've gained back some of the 10 pounds I lost, but I'm just trusting in the program and praying it's muscle I've gained so it can burn off all the fat in glorious week 8!
Keep up the good work, everyone!
Alayna
Morning all! I bombed Sat. Just didn't prepare for a long day at the ballpark for my daughter's softball tournament. And boy let me tell you, I felt it while I was trying to run/walk last night. I can really tell when I haven't eaten good. Because, it takes all I have to work out. And there are no "10's" being hit. We have another softball tournament this weekend and you can bet I will be prepared.
So not going to be where I want when I go to Florida. I have lost 12#'s so far. No in this challenge, but I started my first challenge 2-13 (not my first ever challenge, but my first one in a long time). I want to lose 35#'s from where I am today. I am trying to accept the fact that I'm not going to be anywhere near where I want to be when I go to Florida. But, you know what, I'm not going to be where I would be had I not decided to do BFL
My 15 yr old son is going to start going to the gym w/ me today. I am so excited! He wants to bulk up. He's 15, 6'0" and weighs 135#. He's going to be a sophomore and wants to buff up before football two-a-days start in Aug.
Eat clean and work hard today!
Happy week 5 everyone! I can't believe we are already almost to the half-way point! I have to admit, I am already thinking about the next 12 week program I am going to do.
I made a "Laws of Attraction" board as suggested in one of the article on this site, and boy does it help. If you haven't done this I would highly recommend it! Seeing a visual everyday is awesome. I put my goals and before photo in the middle surrounded by images of what I want to look like and great little sayings like, "sweat is fat crying," etc. In the outer corners I put images of other things that getting in shape will help me attain, such as falling in love, traveling, and being more successful with my business. I hung it on the back of my front door and I look it over every day before I leave the house and sometimes again at night.
I had a great UBWO this morning, which is good because I missed my LBWO on Friday. I was out of town and the hotel only had cardio equipment :( I did try a switching my cardio on Saturday though up by using the recumbent bike instead of a treadmill like I always use at home. Man, the bike is way harder then it looks!
I also was a little pre-naughty at dinner on Saturday night (my free day is Sunday) when we went to an Italian restaurant. But I barely cheated on Sunday, so I guess it balanced out. :) I also made sure to pack plenty of food for the four days I was gone, which made it much easier to stick with the plan! Thank goodness because I probably would have cheated a lot more otherwise.
A funny thing I noticed this week too is that after all the hard work I've been putting into working out and eating right, my self-image has greatly improved. In my head I think I look greatly improved... funny thing though is that I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror this weekend and my actually appearance isn't quite matching up yet :) Still looking to that week 8 to see some results!
Hope everyone has a great week 5 and sticks to the plan... we don't have much time left!!! :)
Welcome to week 5 everyone, where getting closer to the top of the mountain!
Today was rough for me. I ate too much food yesterday on my free day! I definitely need to cut down some on Sundays. I could barely make it through my UBWO today without wanting to ralph. Got it done though :)
Tishs- good to hear your attitude! I have followed the laws of attraction idea for years, it really does seem to count. Keep up the great work and mindset!
Shannon- you are doing awesome! That's really cool you are working out with your son, it makes such a difference to workout with someone! By the way, we all went swimming at the beach here in Clearwater, FL. it was beautiful, you are going to love it!
Alayna- Sounds like you had an amazing cardio! Keep digging and digging, I up the speed myself to hit the highpoints, keep up the great work!
Have a good night everyone and keep hitting hard!
Just wanted wish everyone a great and happy Tuesday! Hope you all have an awesome cardio or whatever workout you are doing for today. For those of you who started on 5-7-2012, we are now on day 30, only 54 days left. 11 UBWO's, 12 LBWO's, and 23 cardio days. Time is flying by quick, keep up the awesome work everyone!
Jason
Thanks Jason! :)
