Starting (again) Monday February 27!

  • Well I know  it's tuna and salmon, I don't know of the others not sure I want to know lol! It comes with slices of fresh ginger and a blob of wasabi (love that!) There's soy sauce for dipping if you want, but I like the ginger and wasabi most.  What your husband made sounds fantastic!  One good thing about this stuff - forced me to learn how to use chopsticks which forces you to eat slower.  In the past I tended to wolf down my food like somebody was going to steal it off my plate lol!

That's pretty rude what the gym people said to you.  Ignore them - Bill knows what he is talking about.  Keep doing what you're doing, it's obviously working.  I've been going to LA Fitness, yes they have the classes which are fun but there's always someone trying to get you to sign up with a trainer.  IMO if you know what you're doing you don't need one UNLESS you need someone to force you to work harder than you would force yourself.  If that makes any sense....

Yes our minds are in the gutter.  We admit it!  Ok I do lol...how long have you been married?

  • I've been married since August 2008, together since late 2005. We met through craigslist if you can believe it. :) I keep bugging him to go to the gym with me but it rarely happens. He's one of those "eat everything and still not top 150" types... makes me jealous! My mother is the exact same way. She is 5'5" and hasn't weighed more than 110 since she was pregnant with me! I got my grandmother's curvy figure and child-rarin' hips as I call them. If it was the 1800s I'd have several able-bodied sons working on the family farm, haha.

Catty I love your hair! It's so beautiful and has a lovely color. Where do you live in Philly? I used to live near 10th and Christian, near the Italian Market. Spent a lot of time on South Street (I was in my early 20s). I worked at the Museum of Arts and also worked for an architectural illustrator in Old Town. I loved the city but oh my gosh it was so expensive as a 20 year old with no college education! I ate a lot of fruit salads and chicken sandwiches off the food trucks and would just hang out and read in Rittenhouse Square for hours. I've wanted to eat at Chef Morimoto's there, and go to Nobu and Momofuku in New York (among a thousand other places of course!).

Oh and is the ginger you get pink or tan? The pink ginger is loaded with saccharin FYI.

I agree, chopsticks are awesome. They do really slow you down. I've actually gotten into eating with my hands lately. I used to eat a lot of Ethiopian and Moroccan food, that is kind of how it started. I think eating with your hands kind of personalizes the experience. I wouldn't do it in public, but I do it at home all the time.

  • Catty,

I see how you got your name!  I agree with MW love your hair color!  I still don't know how you added that picture - frustrating....  I will play around with it again.

You & MW are making crave some japanese!

    Have a good evening,

    Tonja

  • MW-

I am going to test this with my munchkin picture that I have at work sooo.....

Didn't work!  Okay, what format should my picture be in - jpeg?  This is very similiar to what I was doing at home too - same error/just keeps loading, but nothing!

Day off was nice yesterday... I actually watched TV for the 1st time in months that wasn't a cartoon or Disney movie.  Revenge was the name very interesting or at least I liked some of the actors or actresses in it.  It probably won't be until fall that I get another chance to watch some TV.

LBWO tonight and I am start walking at lunch too.  It keeps me clear headed at work too.  I am going to sign up for a 5K in a few weeks - walk it and sign up for another on in mid-May & run it.  BBF in Indiana is going to do the same.  We will compare results over the summer (a long distant running partner).

Have a good one & thanks for you help!

    Tonja

  • Thanks for the compliments guys, that pic is about 3 years old and since then I've been having some hair issues :(

Positive note - last night attended a Cirque du Soleil tribute show to Michael Jackson - wow so cool!  The way these people fly through the air, contort themselves, so muscular and not an ounce of fat!  Definite motivation there.  This morning slept late but still dragged myself to gym for HIIT cardio which I made it through, amazingly.  And MW, we hit the Italian Market area for some Mexican before the show yum!

MW, I live in far NE Philly/Bustleton area, near Huntingdon Valley, Montgomery County.  It's a nice area, winding streets and fairly quiet, but not too far from stores and businesses.  Hey it's the city, never too far from that right...I know the area where you used to be and also I used to work on Rittenhouse Square.  I love Philly for its history, cool neighborhoods and let's not forget the food lol...although I hate winter and snow, this winter was pretty damn good as far as winters go.

Tonya, nice to day have a day off good for you!  It seems that I rarely take a day off but since I work for myself there's no paid sick time or holidays, etc.  I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong, but then I feel bad taking time off.

Well, off to pay the piper and help some people.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

  • Tonja- Ok, I'm going to be so mad if I missed the new Revenge. It went off for awhile and they said it was coming back on in April sometime, but I thought it was April 16th. Do you know if it was a repeat?

MW - I actually have the body fat pinchy thing. I bought one my first challenge, but I always think I'm doing it wrong. You know getting more flesh than fat. I think I am going to try that again because the lady was a little rude and I don't want to give her my money.

I have to reply more later.....to be continued.

    T

  • Oh, catty, I belong to LA Fitness as well so I know exactly what you mean. Actually I belong to two gyms right now (long story) but basically they are both convenient for different reasons. MW- the other gym is a no frills gym like yours. No locker room and no classes, just equipment. That's where the rude trainer is. I used to belong to a gym at a church and it was no problem to get my BF done there, at no charge. Actually it was part of your enrollment when you first joined.

  • T, no I think it was a recap from all of the shows & starts next week per the commercials!  I was trying to straighten up - it was sooo interesting.  Suspenful?  I was a member at 2 gyms - one was close to work & Y for the kids during the summer.  I changed jobs and chose Y which seems so much friendlier.  My husband goes to ATC which sound similiar to the no frills, but it has showers.  He loves it!  I like the Y - I am getting gutsier with talking to people.  Good luck with calipers - I don't think I could consistently do it and I would drive myself nuts.  I am a numbers person - it would just drive me nuts.

I guess I should say it was my off day not day off - sorry Catty.  I normally don't take a day off either and my off day I usually do something, but yesterday - put kids to bed & watched TV quietly.

Keep it up & have good morning!  Also, thanks for the carb info - I am so much better!  Cravings are there, but I can deal with them.  My husband came home with some whole wheat cin. raisin bread - yum!  I have a slice in the morning with my yogurt and it tames the day right now.  Added rice to my dinners as well!  So, thanks again.

Also, I was on another forum and one of the guys on it is doing mini-challenges every 5 weeks instead of 12 weeks and I might try this as well.  He sounded like a med. student or something and his hours change.  Interesting....  I might do this over the summer & then one BFL challenge in the fall.

Cirque du Soleil?  Really, I would love my husband to take me to a show.  I don't see my country boy Hubby doing that one, but wishful thinking.

    Have a good one,

    Tonja

  • Revenge love that show!  For the fashions most of all lol....

Tonya, sorry I misinterpreted you.  Even if it wasn't a day off it does sound as though you had a chance to chill which is always good.   Hubby's a country boy - where do you guys live?  My husband's not a huge MJ fan but it was his gift to me.  Guess it's payback for all those times I went with him to Star Trek conventions LOL!!!!

T, it's funny I used to belong to two LA Fitness and Ballys, but Ballys was bought out by LA fitness.  At least now I only pay one yearly membership fee!

    Ciao for now,

    Cat

  • T,

sorry never responded to you on this.  Yes I have the BFL book.  My protein shake is the RightLight vanilla or chocolate, usually plain but sometimes with a fruit (in the vanilla) or some natural almond butter (in the chocolate).  And yes I am starving lol go into the shower which drowns out the sounds of my growling stomach lol

  • T & Catty-

Wasn't it the 6th/7th week that I started adding an extra protien drink 100calories AdvantCarb on my weight days.  If I didn't I could keep thinking about food or my next snack/meal!  I think your metabolism is get higher at this time.  I would try it and see if that helps or you have better will power than I have.  Good luck!  Funny, how we all had dual memberships - I thought I was the only one - my husband just left it alone when we discussed it.

Oh yeah Catty, my husband is from Oxford, Mississippi and we live outside of Memphis, TN.

    Have a good afternoon,

    Tonja

  • Hey all, hope everyone is having a good week! I am so. Exhausted. My husband and I moved the dog crate upstairs so I finally got to sleep, but my husband wanted help with work stuff and we were up til 10 working on that. I tried to get up and do HIIT first thing but it just wasn't happening. I just had lunch so I figure I'll go do HIIT around 3:00, before my next snack. Yesterday was kind of an eating failure. I missed two meals and woke up starving! Today is much better. I'm grilling swordfish with cauliflower, spring onions and some leftover whole wheat pasta noodles that I'm going to sautee with a  shallots and a little sesame oil.

By the way, Whole Foods has some incredible oil-free salad dressings in the produce section for to too much ($3.99 a bottle). I splurged and bought the fig balsamic. Only 30 calories per 2 Tbsp and 0g fat; though it does have 7g carbs so if you look into it, make sure to account for that. But it was delicious!

Despite the long days and lack of sleep, I am happy that I'm wearing jeans that I have actually never before been able to wear (bought them on eBay, the waist was smaller than normal). WOOT!

My husband is kind of a country boy too. He grew up in North Carolina and prefers gardening and home/car projects to going out. He used to be kind of a scenester in his 20s, but these days is kind of a homebody. Fortunately we are both pretty autonomous and I go out with friends if I get stir crazy and need face time with other people.

Tonja, I'm glad that you worked more carbs in your diet and are making progress with that! Amazing how something so small can make a huge impact.

Hope everyone has a good weekend coming up!

  • MW- I love dogs! What kind do you have? I have a shitzu and a Maltese/ shitzu mix. Those are my babies.

I am with you on being exhausted. I have been hungrier and really tired lately. I have not been getting up in the morning so I've been going after work. Well it back fired on me yesterday. I had to get my friend from the hospital yesterday and it end up being this long drawn out evening. I missed my cardio workout. This is why I need to exercise in the morning! AARGH! No excuses if you get it out the way.

  • T, I have two Shiba Inus. They are as opposite as night and day. One is black and tan, very lean and gangly, and nervous all the time. He can't handle kids, loud noises, quick movements, etc. Fortunately we keep a pretty mellow house. The other is red and white and unbelievably friendly and boisterous. I re-named her Cherry Bomb for that reason (her previous name was Lady Renee... bleh). I adopted both through Craigslist. I also have three cats: a Russian Blue and two Bengals. I love Bengals; they have amazing personalities and are beautiful cats. One is a 23lb silver marble and the other is a 11lb gold rosette. Google the patterns; their coats are simply gorgeous. Every time I take them to the vet people stop by the exam room to see them. Amazingly all these animals get along relatively well. The smaller Bengal actually loves playing with the dogs; he will pounce on them, grab their legs, etc. You almost die from the cuteness.

Phew, glad it's Thursday! Did my HIIT cardio this afternoon, ran an extra 5 minutes because it was the middle of the day. I'm averaging 10:40 minute mile outdoors (5.6 mph). Running outside is so much more tiring than on a treadmill but I love it, getting out in the fresh air and there are so many good trails out here.
