Anyone starting today October 17, 2011????

  • Hey littlemrsstacey, I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  I'm feeling something coming on as well.  I really don't know if there is a definitive answer to that but I would say listen to your body.  Push if you can, but only you know if you really can or not.  Just be careful of not getting a chill when you are done working out but still sweaty.  I always have a jacket/hoodie on hand to put on asap once I start cooling down.

It is also that time of the month for me (sorry, fellas), and I am draggin'!  I did get up and get my UBWO done this morning.  Wishing I could crawl back into bed now though.  Moms don't get sick days, though.  ;-)

    Ryan0425 - 9mph!  Wow!

Jasongitar - I am still pretty motivated every day.  I haven't missed a workout yet, haven't cheated with the food plan yet.  *however* I am going to be out of town 4 days this week/weekend and I am really struggling mentally with wanting to "blow it" for my mini-vacation.  Not that I want to eat bad food, I really don't even desire junk food anymore, but I really would like to have wine every night.  It is a serious battle going on in my head right now!

Keep on Keepin on, 10/17 crew!

  • I recently read an article about the common cold and how supplementing zinc is helpful for getting over it quickly.  The article was in Muscle & Fitness.  I'll check and see what I can find online.

  • Thanks guys.

I got up this morning and did my lower body workout even though I really didn't want to. I did not push that much. No high points for me. However, I wanted to maintain the habit so I did. We will see how tomorrow goes for cardio.

Lins- How often do you go on vacation? It sounds like this is a special time. This is called "Body-for-LIFE," so this is a new lifestyle change for everyday living, right? I highly recommend enjoying your wine and food on your vacation. Pick it back up when you get home!

  • Sorry you are not feeling well Stacey. I remember when I did Body For Life years ago, I got a cold, and I just stuck through it and finally recovered after a week or so, in a way it kind of helps get your mind off being sick. Working out supposedly lowers your immune system, and a lot of professional body builders will tell you to let your body rest, but I have heard and read mixed reviews all over the internet about it. I agree with Lins And Ryan. Follow what your body is telling you and maybe try some zinc or echinacea. There is a product I have used several times called "Cold eeze" and dramatically got me feeling back to normal quick, and I know it contains zinc. Hang in there, you will get through it, I can see the motivation in your replies!

    I love this group too!

  • The article was on pg 30 of the November Muscle & Fitness.  University of Helsinki did a study and found that supplementing with 75mg lozenges of zinc shortened the common cold by 42%.  Hope this helps.

  • Hi, I would like to start but don't know where.  I signed up and downloaded the kit but i was expecting more.  Is there a work out plan/diet plan/supplement plan with this?  How is this purely motivational?

  • tmboy, it's all available on here. Look in the Library for the information about workouts and diet plan.  I'd also strongly recommend reading the book.  Half.com is a cheap site to get the book from if you don't mind being an Ebay customer :)

  • Hi everyone,

I was following the other thread, but not much action over there, so I am going to join this one :)  I've been sick this week too, but just made myself workout anyway.  I definitely wasn't hitting 10's but I feel like I've worked so hard and am seeing so much progress, I didn't want to take a step back by skipping any days.

Anyone have any good midmeal ideas?  I'm starting to get a little bored with all the cottage cheese!  I made a protein pudding for my 6th meal (from the EFL cookbook) and it was really good!  That's what I ate instead of Halloween candy this year :)

  • BahamasBound - good to see you again! Hope you're feeling better soon.  I like the myoplex lite bars, have you tried them?  Good for me, I'm always crunching time so whatever is quick and easy is a plus.  I also like Chobani greek yogurt.  The individual cups have been on sale at kroger for $1 each.  They have enough carbs to count as one carb portion, and *almost* enough protein to count for that too, so I add some protein powder.  And they come in lots of yummy flavors.  I agree, the protein pudding is awesome!

Stacey - thank you!!!  I have been thinking the same thing.  These next 4 days aren't my life!  When do I get to go on vacation?!? umm..*cough* - never!!  Haha!!  So, yeah, I think I will splurge on a little wine and enjoy my quiet evenings. ;-)

I probably won't be checking in until Sunday or Monday.  Have a great week/weekend everyone!

  • Welcome to our group tmboy and BahamasBound! What exactly do you mean by midmeal BahamasBound?

It seems like a lot of us have been getting sick lately! I guess it must be that time of year. I was feeling a little weird today, I think I may have eaten something with MSG in it which I am highly sensitive too. Did a late workout tonight, but staying on target!

How is everyone doing? Almost 3 weeks down!

  • Oh I guess midmeal is terminology I probably picked up from a past diet program.  I'm referring to meals #2 and #4 during the day.  I usually do the EAS bars/shakes or cottage cheese mixed with yogurt or fruit, or hardboiled egg whites and orange.  Just trying to think of some other EASY (little prep) protein/carb combos for a little more variety.....

I weighed myself yesterday and I am down almost 9 pounds!!!! I am shocked....and so excited!  And talk about being sick.....I had a bronchial infection, hubby has a sinus infection, 2 year old has a double ear infection and one year old has one ear infection and a cold :(  But I've been keeping up with workouts, at very odd hours, I'll say :)  What I love about this program is the 20 minutes of cardio!

Anyone planning Thanksgiving yet?  I'm cooking for 10 and trying to figure out how to feed everyone well, but have very little tempting leftovers!  I think I'm going to buy disposable trays and just send everyone home with some.....

  • Hey guys! So three weeks down! I am struggling here in Korea finding balanced meals. I have a new plan for this week so I am pretty excited to see how it goes. What does everyone do for their free day? I think I am over doing it on the free day. My weight goes up for like 3 days after free day :(

I am not a good one to ask about Thanksgiving because I am not having Thanksgiving here this year. However, what you said about leftovers is a good idea!

    Cheers!

  • Hi everyone, I fell off the wagon but got back on again today.  A dear friend of mine passed away unexpectedly at the age of 48.  Heart attack.  And the grief and shock really knocked me off my game emotionally and physically.  But I intend to learn from this tragic lesson.  Heart disease runs in my family and getting fit is the best way I can think of to prevent it.  So I'm three weeks behind you guys but I like this group!!!

    Kat

  • Kat, hope this can help u turn around your health.  Tragedy to triumph, let the loss motivate you and pay it forward - to yourself!!  I know that I found myself in a rut I wasn't comforable with and decided to get busy livin or get busy dying!!  Guess it's an easy decision when you think about it.  Three weeks behind is really no big deal.  One very disciplined week is enough to get right back into it.

For those that have done this before, what is the belief behind not having simple sugars (bad carbs) immediately after the weight sessions with a protein shake, to speed in the protein getting to the muscles and spike insulin levels?  I've always been a firm believer in that, yet find myself spent after my workouts, maybe needing that spike to keep going.  Any and all info on this is much apprecaited.  I emailed my question to the admin, but haven't heard back and wondered what the science was behind it.

  • Now, to double-post.  I think the illness we've all encountered is from a lifestyle change.  Two plus weeks in and our bodies are changing, as well as our immune systems.  The next two weeks are pretty important (not that any of them aren't) as working out and eating healthy will become our new "lifestyle".  I'm excited, my body is changing, and I feel relatively well.  Let me know how eveyone is doing, I'm excited to hear your early success stories!!
