Hey all! I have been pretty busy but still have been reading the messages popping up now and then. Good to know many are hanging in there!
For those of us that have enjoyed the holidays more than perhaps we meant to, don't beat yourself up! (myself included) It only comes once a year. Seriously!! It's what we do the other 50 weeks of the year that make us or break us, right?! I know it's the end of our challenge, but don't be discouraged! We can make this last week and a half count! Drink your water! Eat clean! If you're gonna cheat-eat, then just enjoy a little, don't gorge yourself! Fill your belly with water first! Do your workouts, but don't beat yourself up if you can't! Life happens! That's what it's all about - finding balance, coping with life & taking care of ourselves the best we can. Sometimes that's all we can do. I know my habits have permanently changed, so that I can't & won't go on eating like its Christmas for another 6 months and then keep eating like that because I'm so disgusted with myself that I eat to numb my self-loathing (which is a vicious cycle!)
Keep your chins up, we can do this!!!
It's all about progress, not perfection.
I'm starting January 2nd. Did this challenge 11 years ago with my husband and maintained it to the letter for 3 full years. I continue to do it, but not to the letter and it shows. So I'm anxious to get back to it and knock off this extra muffin top I'm sporting these days.
Ugh, I hear that "sick" message loud and clear this week. Been up for the last 16 hours, frequenting the bathroom, I can't even keep water or Gatorade in me!! Skipped cardio this morning and will probably skip my Upper Body WO tomorrow. Things were going really well, but I'm a hurtin unit right now. Dry-heaving broke all the blood vessels around my eyes, so I look like I got my butt-kicked in the alley!! Can't wait for this feeling to be GONE!!!!!!!
Hey everyone! I'm very proud of everyone on here and you motivate me to keep going. Thanks for being real and sharing your struggles as well as you successes. I weighted myself this Christmas and I don't think I lost any weight. I haven't used the scale for the entire 3 months and I know weighting myself actually makes me lose all control. I looked at my measurements from the beginning until now and I have lost almost 3 inches in my stomach, chest and hips. It is possible for scale weight to remain almost the same but our bodies to drastically change. In the bfl journal there is a guy on day 40, Gained 20 pounds muscle and lost 22 pounds of fat. His body is transformed but scale weight is only 2 pounds difference. Hang on there everyone and keep pushing!!
Lins - thanks for the encouraging words! You are so right. It's an accomplishment to make any effort to get back in shape and Christmas is only one time a year. It's ok to indulge a little as long as it doesn't become a lifestyle again! :) I'm back on track since yesterday and feeling good working out again. I've got one more dinner party and I'm going to eat whatever delicious food is served - just not in excess :)
Tiataz - Congrats on your progress! You are right, the scale can be very deceiving and discouraging. Keep up the good work.
Ryan - hope you are feeling better today!
Doesn't it feel great going into the New Year making a resolution to continue these new habits instead of starting them!!!! I'm in for Challenge 2 probably the second week of January - anyone with me?
You and I are two peas in a pod! The scale is my enemy, and I refuse to weigh myself. Because I know- where I'm at now- if the scale shows me a bad number, I'm at high risk of going on a binge. That's the way I've been for the last ten years. The scale can be so deflating if the number isn't reflective of all the hard work I'm putting in. I'm doing my own challenge; I didn't officially enter BFL. But I did BFL 10-11 years ago and got in great shape. I'm now on day 30/84, and I still won't weigh myself. I know eventually I'll have to get to a point where I can weigh myself and not let the number bother me. I just want to be certain the number will be a good one before I step on! Good luck to ya!
Hey Everyone! Happy New Year to you all! I hope you have gotten 2012 off to an amazing start! I've got about 3 lbs of water weight from the holidays, but I'm hitting the water hard, eating clean 110% and I know it'll be gone soon! I'm ready to close this challenge out this week! Let's DO THIS!!
I plan to just keep going, so for those of you continuing, or starting again after a couple weeks rest, count me in with y'all!! I've lost 13 pounds (hopefully a couple more by Saturday!!), and I'd really like to fine-tune another 5-10 off over the next 12 weeks.
I'm actually starting a different 12-week challenge as of yesterday, you can read about it here: fitgalclub.blogspot.com if you're interested. The owner of this blog is the person that told me about BFL. She has lost 90 lbs altogether, over the last 2 1/2 years, gone from a size 12/14 to a 2/4! She was featured in a local active life magazine this month - read her inspiring story here: issuu.com/.../23
One last note to the ladies!! --> ya gotta add "She's a bad mama jama" by Carl Carlton to your workout play list! Really get's me into pumping that iron!
Hey guys! I just went on vacation for a week here in korea and definitely gained 5 pounds! I know how you are feeling about the holidays... BUT it is the holidays! We should be able to indulge a little bit. I tried counting calories on vacation, but finally I decided to just enjoy myself. I actually will be starting a new 12 week challenge at the beginning of every month. For those of you struggling with sticking with it I wrote a blog post related to this topic if you are interested: littlemrsstacey.com/.../how-to-get-fit-and-stay-fit. You can see the details of my challenges I will be leading here: http://littlemrsyou.com. Since moving to Korea in September I have lost 20 pounds... I still have about 20 to go too, but I found a fitness program that I love and is FUN which I think is part of sticking with it you can read about on my blog.
Linds- I am curious to know which 12 week challenge you will be doing next!
I also got a really bad cold at the beginning of our vacation and yesterday I had heartburn all day so I am having a slow start to the new year but it is a lifestyle now so I am not too worried about being two weeks off. I am pretty sure I can make it by spring/summer time!! Happy New year everyone!!
Hey everybody! Sorry for my lack in posts and replies, been really busy over the holidays and getting so many musical opportunities. I am still sticking with the program because its a good test. When you are busy its easy to make excuses not to work out and eat bad. Hope you are all doing well, I know its so tough when you are around food and family, you have to give yourself permission to allow yourself a little cheat here and there when the timing is right.
I am really stoked about starting a new challenge, now that the holidays are out of the way. I appreciate everybody in this group keeping it alive. I will reply to your posts asap!
Hey, good to hear from some more people! Glad everyone's doing well and finishing strong!
Stacey, 20 lbs is awesome! I'm close - My total is 18 lbs lost for the year, 13 lbs during this challenge (so far...still hoping for another lb or 2 by week's end!). I'm not doing anything different, still doing BFL. This other challenge is really just for motivation. It's called the "Your best body in 2012" challenge, but everyone picks their own plan and just sticks to it. It's just another place for motivation and accountability. It's here --> fitgalclub.blogspot.com Also Fit Gal Club on facebook. Both are by the same gal, I actually went to high school with her!
I'm proud of everyone on here, finish strong! 5 days left then I completed 3 months! I'm starting my second challenge as soon as I am done this one and I scheduled a body fat analysis just prior to leaving on my Mexican hoilday. My goal was to lose 10% of body fat, I really hope I'm close. Stay strong:)
Sorry for falling off the grid over the holidays! I was reading your posts, however, didn't have a chance to write.
I didn't do horribly over the holidays... I still haven't missed a workout... but my eating wasn't as good as I had wished. A few too many cheezies and cookies... ;)
(unfortunately I gained 2 lbs from my last weigh in before I left for my parents)
BUT... I am back on track for the last 9 days of my 1st BFL cycle!
REALLY looking forward to start again on the 23rd of January when I get back from Hawaii (that's when I am going to start my 2nd cycle)
I didn't take picture this time around... as I was horrified at the start... however, this time I am going to do it. Maybe I will also have my body fat checked officially.
I will definately will you all know about my end results...
One thing is for sure... after the past 10.5 weeks, I no longer crave McDonalds every morning on my way into work... I make it a priority to work out as much as possible... and I now think about my portions. I may not have lost the 10 lbs that I wanted to... or lose the layer of fat that looks ilke soggy marshmallows... but I have changed from within. It took me 2 full years to get into this poor shape... It's only fair that I give myself more than 3 months to get back into good shape.
Great work everyone!
SHB - way to look at the bright side! There are definitely other benefits besides what the scale says!! Way to go!!!!!!!!!!! I no longer crave the junk like I used to either, and that is quite the accomplishment, in my humble opinion. I still do indulge every once in a while, but once I've had some, I don't keep having more and more....and MORE. It's just not in my system anymore and for that I am SO thankful.
Ya'll are makin me jealous!! I'm still here, still reading, and barely alive :) The flu got me, then went around the family, and I kept it thru all of their misery as well. After spending the last 6 days living by the toilet, I was actually able to eat yesterday and keep it in me. I guess I have to say my "challenge" was over last week, since I know I really can lift. I did attempt to do a cardio workout during my "fun time", but had to stop due to pure exhaustion and dehydration. I'm a real sissy when I'm sick!!
Anyway, I'm all in for the next one, and the wife is going to join me/us. I'm excited to get back on my feet and be human again :)
Congrats to all, it's been one helluva journey, and I think we can all be proud of our commitment, even if you didn't finish the way you wanted. It's a big step in the right direction!!
Next week, I'm gonna do the Jillian Michael's shred just to stay active and not get too sore, then I'll be ready to get it going again!!
Anyone is this group entering the official challenge? I'm debating right now.......the horror of submitting my before picture and having anyone see it :)
How's everyone doing in the homestretch? I'm feeling awesome and finishing this weekend!!!! Trying to decide when to start my Challenge 2 (I may take a week off) :)
