Newbie starting October 3rd 2011 - anyone ready to rally up??

  • Happy Weekend Everyone!!

Got my cardio in this morning, and shortly after I got back from that and cleaned up I went and played a round of golf.  I don't play as much as I would like at times, but still felt good to get out.  So had a great workout day today.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and getting their cardio in today.

    Paul

  • I actually did my cardio yesterday after my UBWO. I knew I had to get out of the house super early and wouldn't be home till dark so it made sense to make sure I got it done ... even if it was a day early. I'll try not to make a habit of it.

I think that getting the right weight to use is becoming clearer. I have to admit that I probably didn't hit any tens. I did get darn uncomfortable and was shaking at times but I could have done more before the muscles gave out. I'll push myself more next time and try to use a weight heavy  enough to make sure that the muscle gives all it has for that last set. It was still a good workout.

I started my free day last evening because friends had me over for dinner. I don't like to be picky when other people are making the meal  and then today I had dinner with my parents ... same deal. But neither was that bad. I don't really crave anything particularly fattening so I'd really have to think about what i might just love to eat. I don't want to get in the habit of eating things I wouldn't ordinarily choose to eat just because I have a "free" day now.

Paul, glad to hear you had a good workout and that you got to go out and enjoy playing some golf.

How did everyone else do? Just think, we're already on week two ... a week ago we hadn't even started and now we've got three weight training days and three aerobic days under our belts ...and a week of healthy eating ...  we can do this!

  • Good early Sunday morning!!

I started my challenge last week on October 3rd too and my free day is just about to begin.  I have the Body for Life book and the Success journal, which is really great for keeping track of everything. I had a really good week actually.  Worked out really hard and stuck to the plan.  I think I am getting the hang of the weights and figuring out when to increase them. I have 70lbs to lose and will probably have to do this 3 times to lose it all.

Has anyone noticed any actual fat loss on the scale yet?  I will weigh myself on Monday and let you all know how I did.

  • @PatriciaK  Good job on getting your workout in.  I was a little nervous about doing the cardio shortly before golfing, but it turned out to be fine.  I guess the "trial run" version of BFL I did last month plus the actual challenge this month is paying off.   Afterwards my wife and I were supposed to go out with friends for dinner but she has been fighting a cold so we stayed home.  I probably am underestimating my 10's too for weights right now.  I am pushing hard, but probably have a little more room to go for 10's.

  • @LisaBFL  Welcome to the group.  GREAT Job on getting your 1st week done.

In terms of fat loss, there are several ways to measure body fat levels (one of the best is bodpod's which I have done 1x before) but the scale is the not a good one to use.  The problem with the scale is it really doesn't show you how much of your total body weight is bone vs. muscle vs. fat.

Many people on here have limited change in overall weight even though their body composition changes

    quite a bit.

As the book says, ignore the scale. :)

Again great job on making it through week 1 and welcome to the group.

  • @Trexx  Thanks for the welcome!

I will do as you said and ignore the scale.  I actually feel better and I guess that is what should matter.  I just had my free-day yesterday and... hated it!  I felt awful and nothing tasted as good as I had imagined it would all week.  I felt tired bloated at the end of the day and rather missed the nice focused feel that I had during my first week.  I actually missed my morning can of tuna, lol.

I am so happy to be back on the plan this morning and think that on my next free day, I might just choose one thing that I want to have for one of the meals and stick to the plan for the rest of the meals, because my free-day was definitely not a fun-day :(

Was also wondering if many people blog their daily progress here?  I have found my profile page and am not sure if that is where we blog or of the blogging page is different.

Thanks again for the warm welcome :)

  • Good morning everyone!

Sorry I have been so quiet - hope everyone is well and had a good weekend.

After I did my LBWO on Wednesday.... haha... my goodness - my legs HURT until Sunday!

Anyway - I will be doing cardio tonight.

Instead of the 20min cardio on Friday - my colleagues asked me to do a 5.5km run with them. I know it isn't the set program, but I really enjoyed it - and thought "it's still exercise"... So I might swap one of these longer runs for a 20min cardio once a week... (For me - this program must be enjoyable, otherwise I won't do it)...

oooo - look at the time - I must get my 2nd meal!

Have a great week everyone. Good Luck!!

    (Thanks for your message Patricia)

  • @LisaBFL - I know what you mean about the free days not always seeming as good as they out too.  Part of the benefit of the free day is to make sure the body doesn't go into "starvation mode" as I call it if you are taking in TOO few calories during the week.  It can slow the metablism down so you don't burn as much as you should (cause the body thinks food is hard to come by).  So it helps keep the metabolism revved up to burn that fat.

I had pizza and cookies on my free day.  I LOVE cookies.. :)

As for blogging in their profile vs. here... It is up to you, but many people seem to put more their bio/before after pics/milestones/etc. in the bio and use the forums threads like this as an accountability helper for people on the same start dates.

In the end.. do whatever works best for you.

  • Good Morning All,

Got my LBWO in this morning, wasn't too into it as I didn't sleep real great over the weekend, but I still pushed myself.  All my rep 6 weights were up, and I pushed hard on abs today.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a great workout today...

    Week 1 - DONE

Week 2 - Off to a good start!

    Later gang,

    Paul

  • @Trexx, I never thought of the free day like that.  Maybe I just over did it and ate too much stuff. Now you've got me thinking of pizza for Sunday, lol.

Sounds like you had a great workout today, in spite of not having much sleep.  I hope that tomorrow morning finds you with a bit more energy for your cardio :)

  • Week 2 was off to a great start for me today.  I did my LBWO and hit all of my high points and have already planned the increase in weight for Friday's LBWO.  I am really looking forward to tomorrow's cardio and got almost the whole week's activities panned in my Success Journal today!

I have that quote "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" stuck in my head, lol.

It's sleep time here on the other side of the world.

Looking forward to meeting everyone, and hope you all have a great day!

    Lisa

  • Goooood morning everyone!!

Can you hear that??  ...that's my legs screaming at me from yesterday's workout, lol.  Wow!  What a great cardio session I had today.  I thought I was gonna pass out and fall right of the exercise bike!

Week 2 is going great and I hope that you all have a great cardio workout today too.

  • Hey everyone, here is a note of inspiration if you are having a hard time getting going this morning...

Did you know that we all started our Body-for-Life challenge on the exact same day as Bill Phillips, back in 1992?  It's true!!  He began his challenge to himself on October 3rd, 1992 and completed it on December 26th, 1992.

Now that is awesome inspiration to stick with the plan and have a great Body-for-Life day today!!

  • @LisaBFL - GREAT Job on the cardio today.  Do they have bikes with seatbelts?  Might be something to look into for those tough days after LBWO :)

Got my cardio in this morning already as well.  2.26 miles on the elliptical, max level 17 and Heart Rate 164.   Then did wrist curls to work on forearms since they normally don't get any attention.

That is a cool tidbit about Bill starting his first challenge on October 3rd.

Hope everyone else is having a great week 2 and has a great cardio workout today.  Haven't heard from a few of you lately, so leave us a line and let us know how things are going.

  • Hi,  I just started today.  I am really not sure of this new BFL Format.  Any way if you will me tag along and use you all as my accountability partners I know I can get this done.  I am not new to BFL,  but rather have strayed.  I did my HIIT today and my eating has been good all day.  Water has been good too.  I hope to get to know you all and meet up with old friends too.

    Thanks,
