I'm not sure how many pistachios you are eating, but if I'm reading the nutritional data right, a cup has 699 calories, 57 grams of fat, 33 grams of carbs(20 if you subtract 13 grams of fiber, not sure if we are supposed to look at carbs or net carbs) and 26 grams of protein. I don't see nuts on the list of foods to eat, you should probably save these for a free day esp if you want to lose weight.
Don't forget a carb with dinner, unless you are skipping it intentionally.
Took a bus full of seniors to the Ohio Amish country today. We had so much fun, would have been better if the shine would have been shining and w/o the rain, but hey, no one complained and I brought as many home as I took w/ me :)
Sounds like everyone is having a great week so far! I still have to get my workout in........another reason to just get up and do it first thing...(so hard to do though....)
Hope you all have a wonderful evening! Thanks for the motivation!
I'm only weighing myself once a week (on Monday mornings). I know if I do it any more frequently, I'll get frustrated with myself, and that might affect my motivation.
Oh my gosh.... this week has been so stressful!! I have really wanted to grab a beer or a glass of wine, but so far have resisted! Right now I'm working PT planning a giant event for my university, and we're coming down to the wire. The event is Oct. 24-26, and I'm basically planning the thing solo. We've got nearly 60 vendors, four speakers (including our mayor), showing two films, and serving lots of food. What have I gotten myself into? I feel like my shoulders are in knots. I'm still working out every day, but I get busy and forget to drink water and eat. Sometimes I wait until I'm starving and end up eating too much (even though they're "approved" foods). Got to get that under control. At least it's only for a couple more weeks....
Anyway, thanks, team, for letting me vent!!
Happy Wednesday everyone!
I hope you all are well. I did some pushups and used the lat bar today at lunch ( I can't do a pull up to save my life), so I am glad i got my workout out of the way. I was in the mindset of skipping it, but I am glad I didn't. For my snack today i have a protein shake with unsweetened Soy milk and it's just gross. Trader Joes ran of almond milk which I always use...so I got this stuff instead. Not happy.
Tomorrow our company is having a 5k run to raise money for cancer, so I am pretty excited to get out there and run. I will definitely run hard at this event because I am pretty competitive by nature.
I don't weigh myself everyday, only every 2 weeks. Weighing everyday would hurt me more than help me. Not only does muscle weigh more than fat, but water retention can fluctuate day by day, depending on your sodium intake. When I go an run for more than an hour and weigh myself, I am already a few lbs lighter, but once I hydrate again, i can either go up or down.
As for nuts, choose a lower carb nut like macadamia nuts or almonds.
Wow, Marce and SpanishMoss - do you have full plates! Hmm, I just thought about that saying "full plates"...kind of funny connotation. Anyway, kudos to the two of you for pushing through during hectic days.
I do weigh myself everyday but I am well past the place of getting emotional by the scale's ups and downs. I have just found that daily weighing reminds me of my goals and keeps me grounded. My scale also measures body fat (fairly accurately compared to the few times I had it done at the gym) and I do resist measuring that daily; I think the changes would be too minimal to notice.
I have also heard/read that week 8 is THE week most women notice major changes....to the ladies here: we have to keep challenging each other to stay strong until then :) and know in our hearts that we are doing what's good for us. Hey, we're more than 1/4 of the way to week 8 already!
Just wanted to let you all know that the first online thing I do everyday is check my emails for postings from this team. Thanks for being out there.
This link takes you to a "must read" document for women which I just found - its a compilation of stories of progress and how many women did not see a lot of results until later in their Challenge - I've read some of them, and I have to tell you, the stories are encouraging!
PS I can't remember who on our team is a vegetarian, but the very last story is about a vegetarian's Challenge-you might be interested.
Hello radiant-one, your posting really-really cheered me up:-)
Reason being, earlier this evening i weighed myself and somehow put on 1.5kgs. Needless to say I was really grumpy.
The stories are all so inspiring and it has helped me to keep positive, focus on the journey & be patiently consistent.
BIG Thank you to you :-)
Good Morning team........
Radiant One, thanks for that link!
Going to be a busy day at work, today is our "birthday luncheon" for any senior citizen celebrating a birthday during the month, we invite them to the center for lunch.....a wonderful volunteer makes the lunch and amazing cakes......My challenge to myself..............do not eat the cake.
This is a huge challenge for me at work, the members are mostly in their 80's and 90's and are constantly bringing me baked goods.............................they are incredibly sweet to me and it's next to impossible to say no...............just yesterday when departing the bus, one of the ladies went to her car and brought me a banana bread and a dozen cookies..........they went straight to my freezer, but you guys get the picture.
That being said............Let's all rock our cardio today and hit our 10's! What is your favorite form of cardio? I truly love my elliptical machine.....it's kinda rainy again today, so that's probably what I'll do when I get home this evening.
Well, off to get lunches packed. Have a wonderful, wonderful day everyone!
Good morning!!!!! Hope everyone is having a great day! Our internet was down this morning, so I'm a little late checking in. Yesterday, was so much better! I did feel much better by changing my food up yesterday. I felt so much better and am a much happier person:)
Marce- I think it's so sweet how your little old folks give you baked goods. So sweet!
radiant one-Tthanks for th link.
SpanishMoss- Take a deep breath. Bless your heart, your cup runneth over!
CaliRunnr13- Good luck in the run. Kick some boo-tay!!!!
We have made a good dent in this 12wk program!!!!! Yay for us
Radiant-one, Thanks for the site. I plan on printing it our so I have a hard copy to look at whenever I want.
I think everything is going well. I've been to the gym everyday but Monday. A 4:30 a.m. workout after getting home from a 9:30 Sunday night softball game just isn't happening. Last night was only about 15 minutes on the treadmill. The 2 year old decided to get behind me on the treadmill with me last night and we both fell and went right off the end. No one hurt though, unless you count my ego. Today is upper body and should be a lot better.
Eating is doing pretty well also. I found a lasagna recipe I used the other night & I've had that for lunch a couple days this week. Today we had a meeting though & they brought in Qudoba. I ended up getting the chicken burrito and digging the insides out and throwing away the tortilla. I'm not sure what the chicken is coated with and it's white rice instead of brown.
CaliRunner - good luck in your run.
Everyone have a great day.
Wow, Looney - so glad you and the little one did not get hurt in that tumble! I almost dropped a weight on my Bichon's nose and have elbowed him a couple of times with crunches - but nothing close to what you just experienced.
I got a great interval walk in this morning, but I am concerned the colder weather is going to start bringing out the facial rosacea flushing :( .... I so love walking outside, but if I have to switch to indoor elliptical I can do it, right? Or else I might look for a neck gaiter thingy to protect my cheeks/nose - it doesn't matter if I look weird, right?
So glad that so many of you like the link - I know it helped me. My big obstacles-turned-into-challenges are a small group supper tonight, dessert at a friend's house tomorrow (I think I can get away with eating nothing) and wanting to start my free day on Saturday night instead of waiting until Sunday. I will be checking in with the team a lot in the next 2 1/2 days.
Good Morning Everyone,
Hope everyone had a great day yesterday! Leg day for me........didn't get up again, so after work it'll be ....I'm wondering if I had a workout partner if it would be easier to get my butt out of bed at 5...
Anyone use brown eggs? Why are they so much harder to peel than white ones when they are hard boiled? Weird.
How did your run go CaliRunner?
I can feel my plantar fascitis coming back.........................dangit.
Good morning and congrats on the end of week 3! I've had a pretty good week...a couple of food slip ups but I'm working on them. I did miss a lower body workout but then doubled up the next morning wtih cardio followed by UBW. Last night went out to mexican food with the family and worried about what I would do but chose a fajita taco salad with chicken and no cheese/cheese sauce or sour cream. It was wonderful and I feel pretty good about the choice; only problem was no carb but I had a couple bites of my son's rice (not ideal, but didn't seem too bad).
A couple of you have mentioned plantar fasciitis problems and I wanted to share my experience with this problem. 3 or 4 years ago I started having pain in my heels. That was when I first strated running but it didn't seem like something that running would cause so I was stumped. After months of pain, finally went to a podiatrist and was told what I had. He gave me cortizone shots (HELL!) and shoe insoles and told me to come back for more shots in a month. I wanted no part of any more shots so I checked out everything that I could find on footsmart.com. I ordered a stretching roller, a boot for night time and arch supports (like an ace bandage around your arch). I used them all but am SURE that the arch suports were the best - see them at www.footsmart.com/P-FootSmart-Arch-Sleeves-10085.aspx. I wore them day and night, under socks or showing with flip flops for almost a year and I have very little trouble with it now. Once in a while my heels hurt when I get out of bed but nothing like then, when I limped for an hour every morning. They may not work for everyone but they sure helped me out. And they're cheap so definitely worth a try. Good luck to all of you suffering from this; I know how miserable it can be!
Enjoy your day and push hard to finish week 3 well.......our free day is almost here!
Sounds like we have showed this week who we are!!!! lol:) I have eaten out more this wk than I should have, d/t football games, parties at work and meetings at work, but I have tried to make more nutritious choices. I didn't get my cardio in yesterday, gonna double up and do cardio and UBW today. My son is about to turn 15 and wanting to join the gym and start "bulking up". He's 6 ft tall and weighs 125#. Bless his heart, he's so skinny (makes me nauseous- lol), so we are joining our local gym Monday. We are going by this afternoon to talk to the personal trainer about what he wants. I'm just excited that I will have someone to work out with. I'm sure that he will have him eating the same foods as I am, so that will also make it easier to prepare meals. Yay!!!
Y'all are such great inspiration on here.
Radiant one- what kind of lasagna recipe do you have? I love lasagna. I have got to get the recipe book. I need to get some new ideas.
Almost 1/4 the way complete!
BTW- is anyone seeing any difference in their clothes? Just curious. I'm not. So, I'm going to add a lil Jillian Michael 30 day shred along w/ my scheduled cardio.
