Well, this morning isn't turning out as I had planned!!! My kids (20 mos and 3 yrs) woke up at 3 am and didn't go back to sleep until 5:30. I originally wanted to get up at 6:30 to workout . Fortunately I am a SAHM so I will get to work out when they nap. I just really wanted to work out before I ate.
I am also turning 40 in January! I have spent the last 4 years out of shape and miserable! I want to be fit & fabulous by my 40th!!! I also have to go to a wedding in Sept in my husband's country. They have only seen me pregnant the last few times I was there so I want to look good then to. I don't know if I will be at my final goal by then but anything is better than now! I want to lose 45-50 lbs.
It's hard for me to cook eggs every morning too because my kids want what I have and my son is allergic to eggs. I usually eat cottage cheese and fruit or grab a myoplex bar when they aren't looking- lol!
@Shoshie that is great that you are going to the trainer and dietician. You can get really personalized recommendations. My sister has lost a lot of weight this year with a personal trainer.
@CC, great point! I can definitely get behind the "other foods for breakfast" thought! I know it might seem like I'm getting fancy but I'm getting kind of desperate. I've been trying to lose weight/fat for a year and 4 months now. I was expecting to be at my goal by last December. Weight has been coming off soooo slowly. After doing a program like BFL that I KNOW works for people and to have only lost 5lbs the whole time I wanted to make sure I have all my bases covered this time.
The dietitian thinks I might be carb sensitive. Not everyone processes food in the same way and people who are "protein types" can have trouble losing weight with even complex carbs like the ones in BFL's plan. I sure hope she's right. I've been to the Doctor and had thyroid and other conditions ruled out so there's not too many other reasons left.
I'm about 152 right now and for my goal weight I'd like to be between 125 and 130. I'm only 5'1 so this is a reasonable goal for someone of my height to have. I will just keep trying new things if this second program doesn't work for me. But I've got a new and improved mindset and this time it WILL work!! :D
Quit World of Warcraft, Quit Diet Coke, Quit Processed foods, Started Body For Life and got healthy."DING!"
@cc As a SAHM too I know what you mean about the price of the gyms. I was at a Gold's Gym and it was $80/ mo for me and my 2 kids. I just moved and now the gyms near me are $225 for the 3 of us. That's ridiculous! There is a Planet Fitness but my husband's work schedule is such that I can't get out on my own to work out. I have free weights and a stepper so I can work out while the kids are asleep. I can't wait for the weather to stay nice here so we can walk to the park and get more exercise outside!
@Shoshie. I understand your frustration. I faithfully followed BFL about 10 years ago and only lost about 4 pounds. I know I lost body fat and you could definately see a difference in my pictures. I am 5'4" and was about 140 and ended about 136. I decided not to continue for another challenge because I was getting to bulky. I was going to try P90X this time because I know people who love it but I thought the flexibility of the free day in BFL made it easier to stick with the program over time. This time I am starting at 180 pounds so I expect to lose more weight and I am not already fit like last time so I don't think I will bulk up.
Shoshie....when I say getting fancy I don't mean it in a negative way...I think you knew that but just to be sure! Knowledge is power...I think it's awesome for you to get down to the bottom of why you are not losing as fast as you should. I wish I had the money to get a full work-up right now with a doctor, dietician, trainer, and any other professional who wanted to help me get fit! I am going for a physical on Wednesday, just because it's time and because I'd like to know where I stand from an overall health perspective. Maybe this will give me some good starting stats so I have something to compare a year from now when I am TRANSFORMED. :)
kathiec....leaving the fancy gym with the nursery was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I tried joining a 5:30 AM bootcamp (before hubs leaves for work), which was unsuccessful after the initial excitement wore off because, let's face it, some of us are not morning people!!! So hopefully Planet Fitness will work. It's open late enough that I can go at night when the kids go to bed and hubby is home...not ideal, but it sure beats getting up before the sun (for me anyway!) I have a treadmill and some limited weights at home, plus I like to run outside, so I will definitely have days where the workout has to take place at home. I think a lot of people are starting to realize that you can totally stay fit at home if you have to! I'll go back to a gym when I have more time and money and can take full advantage of all the bells and whistles. I haven't yet resorted to lifting soup cans and milk jugs, so I guess I'm still OK! :)
Looks like there are a few other SAHM's on this group and I would like to join you. I'm in my 30's and have a 3 year old and a 6 month old, who is still NOT sleeping so great! I have been so tired it has been hard to stay motivated on losing this baby weight. I'm 170 right now and look great around 145. I'm familiar with the program, but don't have the book or a gym membership, but hoping that's not a problem. I will order the book from Amazon TODAY! Can I do this without a gym? Hand weights will work, right? I hope so.
I will post more later, as it is I'm late for breakfast already!
Thanks for starting this Shoshie!
I am looking for an answer to a start date question and thought you could help me.
Can I enter a 12 week challenge even though it started 2 weeks ago? Would this make it so I onl have 10 weeks to turn in my entry?
Natalie..You can do this from home, be ready to bring it hit your 10s. I suggest you get some resistance bands.
There is a lot of information here on the website you can read until you get the book. Looks like most of here have done this before too so we can help if you have questions.
My kids are a little older and we still have sleep problems so I know how you feel! Sometimes I have to take a nap when they do but now that has to be my workout time.
I don't have a gym membership either. For cardio you can do so many things from running to jumping rope. I have a small stepper I use. For the strenght training I use free weights. There are many excersizes you can do with just your body weight or even an excersize ball so don't let not having a gym membership hold you back.
Well, it's time for the kids to nap which means it's time for my first work out. Wish me luck!
Let the Challenge begin, Today is my free day as the gym doesn't open until 5 am. and thats just too late for me. Yesterday I figured out my UBWO and on the way home from work my wife is meeting with her trainer and I will figure out my LBWO, as for Cardio I will be using the TM 5.5% incline starting speed at 5.3 and so on. In the first challenge I ate 1 C Oatmeal and a protien shake. That would hold me until about 10 am. Meal 2 protien shake and a banana with Peanut Butter should have skipped the PB. Meal 3. Chicken or whatever was left from supper the night before as a protien, w/ BP or Rice about 1/2 -1C & Salad. And so on. I didn't starve myself and the hand /fist measure really works. The key is to eat until you are satisfied and not stuffed like a pig which is the way I used to eat. Rember you Ladies will have to work twice as hard as us Guy's to make this happen so I plan not to post any results till the end and once again I will not get on the scale until the end. I challenge all of you to do the the same with the scale. It will help you stay focused at least it did for me. Your clothes will tell the real story.
Have a great UBWO GANG, Push Hard, Run Faster we will make it.
half way through day two for me now...second days exercise went well... made just over 2 miles running in the 20 minutes.. not exactly olypmpic pace but at least managed not to stop and got my breathing under control ... I am very lucky to have the coutryside I have to enjoy.. West Coast of Scotland, I was running up the side of a loch this morning, sunlight on the water, beautiful.
Diet is going OK, Dinner last night was spicy cous-cous with soel fillet, breakfast this morning tea, toast and marmite which I love. Just had a myoplex shake. I feel like I am waking up after hibernating for about five years.
Have a good day everybody....
Good morning All!
Day 2 begins for me at 7am. I have my Metabolic test in an hour so I'll report back on what I found out. I can't have anything to eat until after the test so I'll probably have breakfast and head off to do my workout after that.
Today is HIIT training for me. I really enjoy running but I'm going to try doing different kinds of Cardio this time around. I think my body got too used to cardio last time. My trainer also wants me doing some kind of cardio on each day. On the heavy lifting days only light and moderate cardio and on the alternate days go all out for my HIIT training.
@Duneria I suspected you might be in the UK somewhere :) Scotland would definitely be a lovely place to get to run. I'm in not so lovely Illinois in the US. Corn fields and flat land as far as you can see. The skies are really big tho. hahah
I just started C2 yesterday also. Took 2 weeks active rest and learned a lot from that also. Did great on the eating, probably lost 2-3 lbs during that time. Started yesterday and it felt good to be back to trying for 9's and 10's.
I've NEVER EVER liked veggies, but know I need that for the nutrients AND so I just get different stuff to 'fill me up'. Havent been real keen on fish either. But since I've done one challenge, and my taste buds have started accepting other stuff, last night had salmon and carrots last night! So another step in the right direction for me!
@dburg30 Welcome to the group! I can't tell from your profile if you are male or female. I don't want to guess and be wrong. LOL
I got back from Metabolic testing and WOW what an eye opener!!
So the first thing they tested was my RMR (resting metabolic rate) they can see if I have a slow or fast metabolism and how many calories I burn just doing nothing. I don't have a slow metabolism thank goodness (even tho it sure feels like it). I was pretty surprised to see my daily calorie range should be between 1342 minimum and 1745 max. Any less then 1342 and my body will shut down and go into starvation mode.
The next thing I found out was that my body burns about 49% fat and 51% carbs when, get this...I am only working out AT A HEART RATE OF 113 BPM!!! Are you getting that? Guess what else? At anything over 150 Bpm I burn 1% fat and 99% carbs. So it's pretty easy to see now why I've been holding on to all my fat. RAWR!! I could have been working a lot less intensely this whole time and had more progress.
When I told the guy running the test that I may be carb sensitive he agreed that lowering my carbs somewhat and lowering my intensity will force my body to use fat as energy instead of carbs.
Anyhow I just wanted to share this with you guys. If anyone else is interested in getting Metabolic testing done I can tell you it's not cheap (Mine was about $175) but it could end up being money well spent if you consider the time you save trying to get nowhere fast.
What I learned about this is that unfortunately the training I did for my first BFL challenge actually taught my body to be very efficient at burning carbs instead of fat. I was trying to hit my 10's in HIIT training and running WAY out of my fat burning zone. It's no wonder I didn't lose much fat my first challenge. I guess it goes to show that NO diet or exercise plan is one size fits all.
I just finished my aerobic workout. I forgot how hard the interval training is!!! Only to see Shoshie's post - LOL!!! Maybe it doesn't have to be this hard!!!
@Shoshie that sounds so interesting! How do they measure how your body burns fat vs carbs?
@Duniera I am jealous of your view!!! I live in NY where it has been cloudy, rainy and chilly for days!!!
I'm a male of the species btw :) One of these days I may do a better job with my profile, but again, I'm a guy, so probably not!
Hey so that makes you round 3...right?
