this is my first challenge and I am following the program to a T. I am a 48 yr old male, 5 ft 9 and change and started the challenge at 265 lbs with about 38% body fat. I was one of those that was an Athlete in high school but did no exercise to speak of for 30 years. I have only lost about 5 lbs in a month. I know I shouldn't look at scale weight but was wondering what I should expect. I have given up alcohol for the challenge which, in my mind, I thought the lbs would roll off since I REALLY liked to drink beer.
I have not missed a workout. I get my 6 meals in every day. They are all proportioned properly and are the right foods.
I work different shifts each week so I work out before I go in to work. My cardio is done on a treadmill. I am not able to run due to having ankle fusion surgery about 4 years ago but I do my cardio by walking 3.5 miles an hour and using the incline function to get to my 8's and 9's
I am taking Jack 3-d before each workout which has creatine and other things in it. 100% Whey protein after each workout and Syntha-6 protein powder for 2 meal replacements each day.
I do feel much better after a month and have more energy than before but was hoping I would see more weight/fat loss than I have. I just took my 4 week pics and really can't tell that much difference from the before pics. I am not giving up but was wondering if anyone has been in the same boat and could give me some insight.
An help would be appreciated

I haven't lost a pound yet and I'm on Week 10 going into Week 11.
Proceed. Do not get discourage. Keep going. You have nothing, absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain! :-)
Live life with passion!
Thank you so much . I needed to see that. Congrats to you and keep up the good work
5lbs in one month is not too shabby! That's over a pound a week lost, WITH muscle gain, if you are working out properly. That's pretty darned good!!
My scale doesn't budge very well - I already know this but can't stop myself from climbing on it every morning. What I go by is measurements. My weight will hardly change, but my tape measure - and my jeans - will show many inches off after 8 or 9 weeks.
Grab a tape measure and take your measurements, now - take them again in 4 weeks. You'll be happy.
Thanks for the tips. I guess I feel bad now for whining so much. I took my measurements before the challenge started and didn't think to take them before I posted this message. I had my wife take them today and have lost 6% body fat in a month (from 40% to 34%) and have lost inches in other places. I appreciate the feedback.
Your doing a great job!! Keep up the good work!! Inches are what matter, not the pounds!
Way to go on the body fat loss, and those inches too. I'm on my 9th week and haven't gone down in lbs in a little while as well...but boy do I notice those inches gone...my clothes are hanging off me! Stick with the challenge, you will be amazed at week 8 at the results...I know I am, I feel strong, enpowered, and the best shape of my life, and only getting better!
This is not a easy challenge but well worth the time, and effort. Keep at it Chipper you can get back to that high school body!
Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's pretty amazing that during my week 5, I can feel my clothes losening up a bit. Got a long way to go but looking forward to the end result.
Remember.. This is NOT one of those miracle 'lose 30 lbs in a week' thing. This is something that is healthy, safe and MAINTAINABLE!! That last thing is REALLY what you want to focus on.
If you are sure you are spot on on the food, then the ONLY thing I will suggest kindly, is you posted about using the treadmill for cardio, that's fine, but you posted hitting your "8's or 9's"... To see that extra progress, you really must hit those 10's!! It's hard, I'm not going to sit here and say I hit my 10's as often as I should, but I know I hit them sometimes. I can tell the difference from what I THOUGHT was a 10 to the next level, so obviously I wasnt hitting my 10's. Hitting 8 and 9 is great! and you will still see things happening, but really try to reach down inside and get that extra out of it. Do you have access to an elliptical machine or maybe even a rowing machine for cardio? See if mixing it up helps. I admit that's my biggest thing right now. I want to get outside and do some cardio, the weather is 'this' close to being able to do it.
Great job so far, keep it up!! You can do it and you deserve it!!
I just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work! I only started on 2/28 and while I have not lost any weight so far I can feel a difference in my body and my strength. So I can't get to frustrated getting on the scale but I do understand. You can do it!
cristib, I feel the same way (same start date as you)! No weight loss yet but I feel firmer and stronger. I'm hopeful that the weight loss will follow but for now I'm enjoying feeling better in my skin than I have in a long time.
My 4 and 8 week pics didn't show anything to me either... I am in the middle of week 10 and honestly only now i have started to see changes happening.. as far as energy levels and clothes fitting different i felt that early. Its gonna take more than one challenge for me to get to where i want to be but just hang in there If you are doing everything you are supposed to success will come to you!
Thanks dude. I also found out that I was figuring my body fat percentage wrong. I just went with the millimeters and forgot to look at the chart so I actually started at 32% body fat instead of 40%. I am now down to 30.2%. I am also down 10 lbs total after 6 weeks but am feeling great. I just took my 6 week pics and not seeing much difference but I am losing inches. Looking forward to the next 6 weeks and the things that are ahead.
