I planned on starting this week, but I've come down with a nasty cold, so I'm going to use the week to prepare my kitchen and my body for what's to come.
I would love to get a group together for accountability and motivation for the duration of the challenge. Is anyone else planning on starting on or near the 21st?
I am also planning on starting on the 21st of February. I've read the book cover to cover and am taking this time beforehand to study the workout routines and figure out my diet plan. I will be going shopping next weekend for my food and also my Myoplex powder. I've struggled with other things in my life and know how important accountability is and having people to talk to that are willing to listen and help you with whatever it is you're going through. I tell myself on a daily basis that if I can quit smoking cigarettes, I can do anything I put my mind to. Let's do this thing!!!!!!
I think preparation is key. Glad to have you on board, and hopefully we'll have a few more people starting at the same time!
Good morning, we have a group that just finished a challenge and will be starting on 2/21 for another round. We are all checking in on the BFL Warrior thread. There are some who are in the middle of a challenge now, and some starting next week. Feel free to join in. It is a wonderful group of supportive and encouraging folks.
Glad to see this thread. I'd like to start next Sunday but I'm finding it more than a little daunting. Eating will be a challenge (I want to keep it vegetarian) and I need to cast aside my intimidation by the weight room. I'll use the rest of the week to test out the exercises and come up with a meal plan.
Unicycle, this will be my second challenge, and I totally know where you're coming from. I live almost full time in China, and I don't eat much meat here. Make quinoa, tofu and protein powders your friend! My boyfriend and I do most of our cooking on Sunday and Wednesday. We make huge batches and freeze the leftovers in individual portions for easy meals throughout the week.
As for the weight room, don't stress about it. Everyone in there is so focused on what they're doing that they won't pay attention to you, so you shouldn't feel nervous.
Best of luck!
I like the idea of freezing meals so they're ready to go when I head out the door for work. Planning and preparation are not some of my strongest attributes, and that's probably why I'm fat. I'll need to make every free day, Sundays, my day to plan ahead so I don't fail during the week. Fail to plan, plan to fail. Lydia, you gonna to be ready to go on Monday?
I'm ready. As hard as the workouts are, I like the way I feel when I'm following this program.
Thanks for your comments, Lydia. For a moment I had almost lost hope that I could do it as a vegetarian, but all the 'vegetarian bodybuilding sites' convinced me otherwise. I've got some neglected quinoa in my pantry (I think I was put off by having to soak out the toxicity) and had no idea it was so protein-rich. I think I'll give it a second try.
Today I tried out the cardio as outlined in the book, using the intensity pre-sets on the machine. By minute 17, my breathing was out of control and I started having visions of collapsing on the cross-trainer. I know the workouts are supposed to be brutal, but I was wondering if this is normal. I was thinking of starting one notch lower (perhaps my level 5 is the machine's level 4?) and kicking it up a notch a few weeks in, but I don't know if that would ultimately defeat the purpose.
When I did my cardio (on the treadmill usually) I didn't go by the machine's numbers at all. I gauged it by my own effort level. If I was going as fast as I possibly could and felt like I was about to collapse, that was a 10 for me no matter what the treadmill said. I think you have to continue kicking it up a notch as you go, because your level 8 or 9 this week may be a 6 or 7 three weeks from now as you adapt to the workouts.
How was day 1 for everyone? I'm currently living in China, so I'm a bit ahead time wise.
It felt so good to get back in the gym, and I think I hit my 10s on everything but back, so I'll need to go harder for that on Friday.
Today is my start day-I am excited and nervous. I just want to feel better and look like the girl I used to know who loved her body. I have morphed recently into someone I know longer recognize and now want to change that. I know I can do this-I just need some encouragement! If you want to be workout buddies-I am here. Good luck to us both!
I'm underway as well. Day 2 right now and going good so far. Check the "BFL Warriors" thread for a complete rundown of where I'm at with things.
no day 1 for me -- I ended up getting the flu right after posting last week! better to get it before the challenge than during, I suppose.
here's to hoping I'm healthy enough to start next week.
