BFL Warriors

  • Hey Warriors: Hope you are all doing well. What do you think of the website overhaul. I like it! As you know I'm taking this spring and summer to improve my 5k time. Well this weekend my daughter (24 yrs) came home for a visit and ran the 5k in just under 26 min. She called me when she had finished and said she really pushed it near the end. I have a long way to go but I'm motivated.  Have a great night everyone!!!

  • One more thing warriors.....June 1st will be another picture day for me. Although I'm not on a challenge I think it's important to keep accountable by taking pictures every few months.

  • Hey Warriors!

    Where do I begin...

I've been out of town for two days and got back in last night late.  I'm very tired.  Wendy called me Monday and was able to get her surgery scheduled for removing her wisdom teeth.  It was this AM at 8!  We just got home and she is resting now.  I naturally took the day off from work to take care of her.  She is still heavily sedated.  So I've been going nonstop since 4AM on Monday morning.

I have not worked out yet this week, but I plan on doing a couple of combo workouts to get it all on track again.  I have needed a couple of days anyway.  I could just tell...

I am going to try and go with my daughter on her field trip in the morning, but i don't know if I can work it out or not.  She really wants me to go, so I will probably just make it happen.

Sorry I don't have time for personals today.  I'm looking forward to having a great day...and finishing out the week strong!

    Be a Warrior today!

  • Hi Warriors!

I was lost yesterday without our daily posts!!! I haven't really navigated the website yet so not sure about what has changed. HOpefully things will run a little smoother.

Cuervo: Thanks for the encouragement. I am feeling a LOT better today and feel like I have totally recovered from Sunday. I think my food choices on Sunday played into my difficult recovery...oh well, live and learn. This is a new week and I am ready to go! As far as my age, I will be 38 next week (my birthday is next Wed). But, as you said, you are only as old as you feel and I feel better now than I did in my 20's. So glad I have developed this lifestyle.

Island: Thank you too for your kind words! Still amazed by your crazy work schedule and insane workouts!!! Way to go!

Parson: Sounds like your body definitely needed some rest. I hope you can work it out to go on the field trip with your daughter. They are only young for such a short time...time will fly by! Go and have some fun! I am taking off work next week to go to my son's "Poetry Reading Cafe'". He is so excited that I am coming to hear his class's book of poetry that they have written.

Fit4Life: I know you will definitely improve your 5k time! You can do anything you put your mind to. That was a great 5k time for your daughter...I'm sure you are an inspiration to her! Will be anxious to see your pictures. Still gotta get to work on mine....

Accountability: Yesterday I did a 20 min running HIIT on TM. It was pretty brutal as my quads were still super sore from Sunday's race. But, I got it done and then did UBWO focusing on chest and back. This morning was my cycle class and I was dripping sweat by the end. It was a great workout. All soreness from my legs is gone, so I am planning to do a LBWO tomorrow morning since I haven't done one this week.

There is an 80 year old man who takes my cycling class. He is amazing....he keeps up with everyone and even does the jumps, hills and sprints!!!! I told him that I want to be just like him when I grow up!

Nutrition is packed and clean. I feel so much better with clean eating!!!!

    Have a great day Warriors!!!!

  • Hi Warriors!

I would like to join your group if possible. I am in the middle of my 9th week and I am feeling a little discouraged. I just took my 8 week pics and I see very subtle results. Is this normal? i also just had my measurements taken. Here are my results

                           Start                    Now

    Height           4' 9"                     4' 9"

    Weight          133                      129

    Body fat%     28.8%                 27%

    Shoulders    42                        40.5

    Chest            39.5                     38.5

    Waist            36.75                    35

    Hips              38.5                     37.5

    R Leg           22.5                     same

    L Leg            23                        22.5

    R Arm           11.5                     same

    L Arm            11.5                     same

I am following the program to a "T" and eating only clean foods. I believe I have my meal plan down and my exercise program, I am working with a trainer at my local gym who is helping me find workout routines.

I feel I should be seeing more results by now. I understand you will see the most in the last 4 weeks but I don't seem to be changing much. (fat %)

Have any of you had the same issue? Don't worry I am not giving up! I just want to know if I am doing something wrong or if this is normal even in week 9?

    Thanks

    Zavi

  • Good afternoon Warriors!!!

Glad to see the site back up and running.  I tried to get on a few times in the past two days, but couldn't.  I am feeling well, and have been doing some cardio workout this week.  Monday I did the stairclimber and stationary bike, yesterday was the stair climber and precor, and today I went for a 4-mile hike.  I am going to start lifting weights again next week; light upper body and as heavy as I can for lower body.  I go in for a follow-up with my dr. on Tuesday.  I am still debating running a 5K on March 31st; I will be almost 3 weeks out from surgery....will talk to doc.  My husband's parents get in next Thursday for a week.  It will be nice to have them here, but will probably affect my workouts some.  My daugther turns 14 on March 31st.  I am so sad with every year that goes by.  I can't believe in 4 more years, she will be leaving home.  I will warn you all again that this is the time of year that I often get in that rut.  My mom died on April 12th, five years ago.  I can't believe it.  It also doesn't get easier with time; that is just what everyone likes to tell you!!  I may not still cry everyday, but I miss her as much today as I did five years ago!!

Cuervo:  So happy you are "back home" with your job.  I hope everything continues to go well for you!!

Fit4life:  That is a great 5K time for you daughter; now you have to go catch her.  Can't wait to see your photos; you are an inspiration for us all!!

Island: Glad you got some well deserved rest on Saturday; looks like you needed it for that workout session on Monday!!

Parson:  sounds like you have been crazy busy.  Glad your wife was able to get her teeth taken care of.  I hope you are able to accompany your daughter on her field trip.  I am going on one with Delaney on Friday.

Runnermom:  I am so impressed with your half marathon time.  I am sure you flew by all those 20 somethins'.  I can't believe you are back at it strong.  I would've needed a week to recup.  Sounds like you are back on track with your eating & workout routine.  You are such a good example for us all.  You WILL be like that 80-year old man when you "grow up."

Zavi:  Welcome to our group.  We are so happy to have you here.  I personally feel as if you have done really well!!  You don't have an awful lot of weight to lose, so it typically takes a bit longer.  You are dropping body fat and inches, so don't get discouraged.  I saw my greatest results in the last four weeks.  I remember taking pictures at 8 weeks, and seeing minimal changes, if that.  I saw definate changes in my ten week pictures and definately with my final pics.  I say keep plugging away and make sure you are hitting your 10's and eating as clean as possible.  Make sure you are not undereating.  A few of us are on Myfitnesspal.com, if you care to join us over there and keep a closer eye on your food intake.  You can friend me at schmertnat, if you want.  If not, just watch portion sizes, drink lots of water, workout as hard as you can and get lots of sleep.  Also, check in with us everyday for accountability.  I think these last four weeks are going to show some great changes for you!

"The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday!"

  • hey crew, Wednesday check  in... no weights today just a good cardio mix on the lunch break and yet another long day of work.. It's legs tomorrow 5am sharp!

BD: Looks like you coming along fine glad u weren't down for too long

Zavi: welcome and congratulations on sticking with it for this long..  you already have accomplished what many have not by sticking with it this long.. Like stick with what  BD mom said this is when the magic is going to happen.. Push hard!

Runner: good work on getting it done and about the older gent u were mentioning that is awesome! Funny when i was on the TM at my gym there was an older man doing dumbell bench presses and he was about the same age using the 50lb's I gotta say I was impressed because I could tell he was giving it his all and managed to get about 6 reps If I hadn't been on the second floor staring down at him I probably would've asked him if I could spot him.. I said the same thing to myself I want the same drive if I get to that age...

anyway warriors have a good rest and own tomorrow.. much aloha!

  • WARRIOR DOWN!!!

I know I have not posted in some time... To be honest I am very frustrated and in pain and discouraged... What was supposed to be a simple procedure has dragged out into a nightmare.... I have not been able to or wanted to (physically) to work out since my final P90X workout 12-24-2011... The surgery for my Gall Bladder went fine and has healed completely, however my body has yet to learn how to function without my gall bladder. I am not able to eat solid foods without paying the price (cramping, bloating, and all the other disgusting things associated with it) I am currently weighing in at 174 pounds, as the only nourishment I am able to take are the liquid meal drinks, Ensure, Boost, etc. My doctor informs me that it may take 6 to 9 months for my body to learn how to deal with the absence of my Gall Bladder...

My core hurts all the time and the middle back pain becomes unbearable at times... I cant tell you the number of sleepless nights I have experienced over the past several weeks. Please dont misunderstand me, I dont want to sound like I am whining, just trying to let ya'll know what I am going through.... and as soon as I am able to eat solid foods again I will be hitting the gym again... I post a picture that I took yesterday.... Its sad, as ALL the gains I made over the past 2 years is gone... Please dont count me out just yet... This cant last forever... can it?

Learning to be Happy with Where I am in Life...

  • Good Morning Warriors!!

Friday is right around the corner.  Yay!  The weekend will be busy though.  I am hiking with my dad and sister on Saturday morning, and then she is taking me to look at a house.  My husband and I are buying some rental properties, and this happens to be out by where she lives, and she is a realtor, so it works out well.  Sunday is church and Delaney has her RE classes.  I am taking Brittany and one of her friends to see The Hunger Games.  The rest of the weekend will be filled with cleaning the house, since my husband's parents will be here next week.  Gotta do a little more than the surface stuff..ha.

I will be leaving for my full day of school soon.  I actually got an A on my nutrition mid-tem, but a D on my chem mid-term.  I am still pulling a high C in Chemistry, so will see how I do.  I so don't grasp it, and am hanging by a thread!!  I may be able to hit the gym for a little bit of cardio, if I get out of class early enough.  We will see.  My food is clean and packed for the day.

TAZZ:  I am so sorry you are feeling discouraged!!!!  It must be so frustrating wanting to workout and get your diet back on track, only to be sidelined by all these issues from having your gall bladder removed.  It does take your body some time to get accustomed to operating without a key element; your gall bladder does play an important role in your body.  I sure hope the doctors will help you find a solution, so you can get back to eating solids again without issues.  I know it must be difficult to come here and read about everyone else working out and doing challenges, etc....I will continue to pray for you, and hope that you are back on your way to good health soon.  Thanks for letting us know how you are doing, and no worries about whining; we all know you are a warrior!!

Island:  Did you get that LBWO in?  Did you kill it?  I hope things slow down for you in the work deparment soon.

So where are all of our warriors, including the two newbies we had here for a few days??????

    Gonna go rock my day!!!

    Have a good one everyone!

"The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday!"

  • Hi Warriors!

Tazz: I was JUST thinking about you this morning!!! I was going to post today and ask where you were, and then there was your post!!! I am very sorry that you are having such a rough time. I can't imagine what you are going through. Please don't think that you have undone all of your progress. Try to look on the positive side of things and look at how far you have come since you started the BFL journey. I have seen your before pics and your progress is amazing. No, this can't last forever, and I know the WARRIOR in you will keep fighting and come back even stronger than you were before! I am praying for you.

Island: Hope you got your leg workout in today! I'm sure you will be lifting heavy and living this lifestyle until your golden years....you are so dedicated!

BDMom: I am amazed at how quickly you are coming back and getting those workouts in!!! I am so so sorry about your mom. My husband's birthday is on April 12, so I will remember your mom on that day too. I can't imagine either of my parents not being here. Yes, I feel like I am back on track! My weight is back to normal and I am killing it in the gym! I guess I was a little hard on myself....my body needed time to recover and I just needed to slow down a bit and let it heal!

Zavi: Congrats on making it to Week 9!!!! These last 3 weeks will fly by. It looks like you are doing great. Keep pushing yourself and hitting those 10's in every workout! I am also on my fitness pal if you would like to take a look at my nutrition. I am a super clean eater and totally believe that nutrition is 80% of the puzzle! My username is amyjslp if you would like to friend me. As BDMom said, you don't have to use MFP, but just writing down your meals is a plus and will help hold you accountable. This is a great group for motivation, inspiration, and knowledge!

Accountability: I did a 10 min warm up on the TM and then had a great LBWO. It felt really good!!! I think tomorrow will be a kettlebell circuit again. I really like doing that on Fridays since the aerobic room is free. I am in Week 12 of C3 right now. I still don't know what I am going to do after this challenge. I will start another challenge (keeps me on track!), but now sure what to do. I am running a 5k in April and one in May, but I already have my running base. I met with a personal trainer last week, and he gave me a very nice compliment. He said that most trainers would look at me and use me as a model to train their clients :) I told him that I still wanted to build more lean muscle, and he said that he would train me if I wanted, but he would advise that I quit running and put on a few pounds to gain more muscle. I will have to think about this. I really love running and not sure I could totally eliminate it from my workouts. I plan to decrease my distance running, but to totally give it up would be a different story. His strength training plan was a little different from what I am used to. He recommends 4 strength trainings per week, 2 focusing on "push" muscles and 2 focusing on "pull" muscles, which means you combine upper body and lower body depending on the muscle function. Warriors, what are you thoughts on this? I would be anxious on feedback to help me make my decision on whether to spend the money on a trainer or to keep training on my own.

Nutrition is packed and clean!!!!! Have a great day Warriors!! Hang in there...Friday is almost here!

  • Morning gang,

Quick post this morning. I have had a good week. Almost 4 pounds down and 2% bf. I think I have had a good start this week and will build upon that. I will check in later if time allows. Have a great day.

  • Hi Everyone

For the last week my stomach had been feeling really bloated and I couldn't figure out why.Well I figured it out! I had recently added in Steel Cut Oats to my diet and a friend of mine said it would do that and it may take a few day for my body to adjust. Well...it lasted for about a week and I woke up this morning and it was gone. Yippie! That was uncomfortable.

I have talked to a few of you about my meal plan. I have also noticed in the last week or so I have been feeling hungry in between my six meals. And was told to increase my calories. I was a little scared to do so but I am going to up my calories up by 100 for a week for a total of 1350 and see how that goes. I may need to add more i"m not sure but I will start here for now. From my understanding this is normal at this stage of the game and that my metabolism is running full speed and my body needs more calories for it to tap into my fat cells. This could explain what about 2 weeks ago my abs were really starting to form and then all of a sudden they stopped.

Today was an upper body workout today. I had just started a new routine this week. But I had to take it slow the fist part of the week because I was still pretty sore from the 1/2 marathon I ran over the weekend. This may have set me back about a week. But hopefully with the extra calories I will be back where I should in a few days.

    I welcome your thoughts!

    Have a great day!

  • On my way out the door for an all day field trip with daughter.  S/B fun!!  Will check in later.  I am down 2.5# of the 5# I gained from surgery.  Yay!

    Make today count!!!  It's Friday!!

"The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday!"

  • Hi Warriors!! Happy Friday!

BDMom: Hope you have a fun time on your field trip!!!! I knew that you would lose those extra pounds in no time! You knew exactly what to do and you got it done.

Zavi: I suffer everyday from bloating and gas pains. I know it is b/c I eat so many veggies and whole grains, but I am not willing to give those things up. My stomach has always given me issues so I just deal with it. I am glad your bloating has subsided. When I did my first challenge, I didn't worry at all about calories. I went strictly by the portion sizes in the book. I lost all the weight I needed to using that method. Right now I use MFP, but mainly just to look at my ratios of carbs, protein, etc. Plus, I like the accountability and it is easier to me than writing it down on paper (which I also did on my C1). If you are feeling hungry, I would suggest adding some food to some of your meals, just make sure your ratios are balanced (carbs and protein) and that you are staying within your portion sizes. As long as you are eating clean, you should be fine. When I am hungry after a meal, I add veggies to help fill me up. Also, I am ALWAYS more hungry after distance runs.....that could be the case for you too.

Cuervo: Way to go on the weight and BF loss!!!! That is awesome!!!

Today I went to the gym and did my own workout again in the aerobics room. I did intervals of tabata sprints and kettlebell circuits. So much fun!!!! I think tomorrow I will go for a mid-distance run outdoors of about 5 miles if the weather is nice. If not, I will probably hit the gym for a quick cardio HIIT. We have one soccer game tomorrow and lots of house and yard work so I will have to fit it all in!!!

Hope all you other Warriors are having a great day!!!! Have a great weekend!
