Turning 40 in a new body.

  • This is going to be my second attempt at BFL. My first time at it was in 2003, which I didn't register for the Challenge. I was happy with the result and achieved my goal even though I didn't go all out. And in between then and now, I have got a little out of shape and had been bumbling with fitness.

I gave birth 7 months ago and have been stalling with working out and getting back in shape. I have been told to wait until my injured left wrist gets better. Some say it will not get better until Dragon learns to walk. That may be another 3-4 months, the soonest.

I will turn 40 in June and I am not about to do that in this shape. I have been fit all my life and have been told numerous times that once you hit the big FOUR ZERO the laundry list of what you cannot do suddenly gets long. I don't buy that and I so badly want to prove to them that that isn't true for me.

So yea, my Day 01 is Monday, April 5, 2010 and I am so ready for this Challenge. Wish me luck. I want to win and give myself an awesome birthday present, which is a ripped body.

  • Well, I am wishing you a great 12 weeks!  You and I are in a pretty similar situation.  I am also turning 40 in September, and don't want to be in this body!!!  I am nervous about this, yet also excited!  April 5th is day one for me too, here we go!

  • I'm right there with you!  I'll be 38 this summer with bad knees already and determined to get my body back.  I followed the challenge 3 years ago but didn't fill out the paper work or take the after pics.  I was very happy with the results, but one life crisis after another and I'm back to where I started.  I all but gave up working out and cooking.  Now with my full time job and the kids sports in full swing carving out the time to workout and cooking healthy will be my challenge.  I'm not a stay-at-home mom anymore, so no more 930pm workouts for me like the last time I did this.  This go round will make me become more organized in order to succeed.  Monday, April 5th is my day 1 and I'm determined to be back where I was and feeling good about myself!

Good Luck with your Challenge, if I can do it ...so can you, no matter what part of our body aches.   Isn't 40 the new 30!  Happy early Birthday!

  • Martini you and I have the same story in common.  I did this in 2003 and stopped at week 10 because I was happy with my resutls.  Back then I was 42 and once I stopped I quickly gained all the weight back and then some.  I started back in 2009 after several attempts since 2003 to come back.  I was finally successful with the 2009 start and still continue on today.  I'm 49 years old.  As long as you live a healthy lifestyle, the laundry list will be minimal if it exist at all.  I saw your photos and you don't have far to go.  Best  wishes through your 12 week journey.

    Love you some you...PERSEVERE!

  • Come on now folks! 40 is FABULOUS! It's what you make it!

I turned 40 right in the middle of my first challenge. I just wrapped up that challenge on March 28th. I start challenge 2 tomorrow, April 5th. I have never felt better in my life. I feel younger. My body looks better than when I was 20ish. My complexion is clearer and my wrinkles reduced.

Give BFL 100% and it will give back to you!!!! I can't load my 12 week photos because the size is too large. But, my 10 week progress shots are on the media gallery or on my bio page. I say again....40 IS FABULOUS! Join me in that feeling!

    Keep the faith!

  • Turned 40 last Thursday and was hoping to be at the same place I was ten years ago after my first challenge.  Not exactly there but headed in he right direction.

I have probably been giving BFL 75% over the past 7 weeks.  For the next 5 weeks I am going to take Renee's advice and give BFL 100%.

Have a great day to my 40 year old friends.  :)

  • I'm 42 and definitely feel younger! I agree with Renee....It's what you make of it!  Age is just a number! :)

  • All the best to you!! You sound determined. I turned 50 last summer and although I have lost alot of the strength I had when I was younger I still feel that with excersize and diet I can do pretty much anything I want to.

  • PS. My profile pic was when I was 44 so turning 40 is just a number!

  • I feel better at 44 than I did at 36-42.  I'll be 45 in a couple of months and I am going to make this the best year yet.  It will be hard to beat the last one though.

  • I'm right there with you too, so good luck to you!  I turn 40 in August, and have NEVER been a "gym rat", until this past year.  My sister & I did a "bikini body bootcamp" last April @ her gym, (we were getting ready to go to Mexico for her daughter's graduation trip), and I loved the gym she went to, so I joined.  I did good up until our trip, (in June), then after we got back, I lost motivation.  We also did a "biggest loser" challenge together @ our gym in October, and I lost 10 lbs., which was great, but now I want to challenge myself to lose 10 more, and get toned!  I'm starting TODAY, and we have a trip planned with my sister & her husband to Jamaica @ the end of this, so I can't wait to get serious, and see some results!!!!  Once again, GOOD LUCK!!

Live TODAY like there's no TOMORROW!

  • not sure how this email thing works?  I can't seem to find anyone except by going back to the original blog.....

anyway...I had to catch the last plane out last night to FLA, because my dad had open heart surg this morning..nothing like a speed bump to halt a great start!!!!  won't be able to get intouch with anyone till I get back home.  Still trying to stay strong and at least eat right even if I can't get in a workout.  No gym, but maybe the pool is heated.  Hope I can get some laps in tomorrow.  Area looks too unsafe to run!  Don't give up on me...I'm not.

  • Gatrgrl ~

I hope everything is ok with your dad. Eat clean while you are away. Get right back into the program when you return. Sometimes life's hiccups can help us get even more focused.

    Keep us updated!

    Keep the faith!

  • I just need to chime in about feeling fine in their 40's. I 'll be 44 in July and have never felt this good about my health ever! These past few years have been glorious in many ways and with BFL in the mix, it just gets better and better. ;) Cheers to being 40ish!!

  • Yay 40! :)   Although when I turned 30 I was in the best shape of my life. Turning 40 in April, with a 2 and 4 year old and out of shape.  Getting back in to it now!  I miss me. Here's to being FIT AT 40!!
