Sorry I've been absent all week - I've been kinda tired/whiny and I didn't want to bring the group down :) It's been inspiring reading all of the posts this week though! Congrats to everyone - you guys really burned it up this week! I love everyone's creativity with workouts and cardio! I'm such a rut person when it comes to work outs (I do the same thing over and over and like doing that) but my body needs new challenges so I need to switch it up!
As far as the challenge goes - I do abs 3 days a week on my work out days (2 sets of: 20 crunches, 20R oblique crunches, 20L oblique crunches, and reverse bridge for 60 seconds)...I haven't tried real sit ups in YEARS - now I'm curious to see if I can do any :) As far as push ups go - wow I haven't tried recently but I used to be able to do 20 girl push ups, I wonder if I can do any real ones with my newly built arm muscles! I really like the idea of an 'extra' challenge, what do you guys think about doing one ab one and one push up one a week? Maybe do one on tues and one on thurs?? Just thinking out loud...
Lonna - Have you gotten any equipment yet? What kinds of things are you looking for? Awesome on the weight loss and fitting better into your clothes and lowering your blood pressure! And thanks like always for the positive encouragement! I was a little frustrated that I wasn't down a full size yet until I realized that before this challenge I really needed to go up a size cause all of my clothes were too tight for me - and I wore a pair of jeans last night that I haven't been able to comfortably wear in over a year!
Sharon - awesome about the trainer - if you get any great tips make sure you pass them along! ;)
Sherry - lol you're a butts and guttser - you're no scaredy cat! Go for it and just monitor how you feel. If it starts bothering you then just hold off...maybe try doing them on a cushy mat or something??
Melissa - Starved Rock? With a name like that I had to Google it and WOW it's gorgeous - I looked through all of the 'hiker's photos' or whatever - I hope you had an AWESOME time! And I LOVE that you still have videos - I have a few myself and crack myself up watching them (what you can't skip directly to a scene and have to fast forward or rewind to get there? lol)
Mel - Way to get that cardio in! I need to get more water in at work, I get all of my water in but I probably need to spread it out more...sigh. Good luck and let me know how it goes this week - and if you have any new ideas that helped you out!
Newbies - Welcome - B&G's are the best group around, of course I might be a little biased!
Anyway - I had a great night last night at a friends farewell party and managed to stay mostly BFL friendly (I ate before I left, but I had 2 Captain and Diets while I was there). I'm definitely gonna enjoy my free day today, I see some bruchetta and yellow cake in my future!! yum!
Had a great "freebie day"" yesterday, enjoyed it completely untill the heartburn kicked in>LOL
Once again walked all day in the heat at Disney, good exercise, but draining!
I was kinda upset I thought I had my new workout equipment all wrapped up on ebay but got out bid at the last second. :(
Banana .. I am hoping to get a bowflex, a used one would be great!! that way I am not spending big $$$ for it! and you can add resistant bars to it and then my hubbie can use it too.
But if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them!!
I am having a lazy relaxing day today I will get my cardio in even tho on my freebie day I walkded for hours on end, I must do it!
Mel, You are doing great way to go!!!
I am off to relax and be a bum today, just so tired from yesterday!!
Have a great day everyone!!!
Hey everyone where are you??????
I had a typical Monday. I ate good and did a good Lower BWO, I am so excited! My mother in law is giving me her Bowflex machine, I won't be able to get it until first week in November but Hey I am still happy about it! I might even be at the end of this 12 challenge and on my 2 12 week challenge.!
Mel thanks I am really trying hard,
This is gonna be a hrad week but I am determined. It's my bithday on Wed and well I always bake a from scratch cake for the birthdays but I asked them to please not to do that for me... we chall see.
Have a great night everyone!
Hi Lonna! Hey all! I'm still here... I did notice myself that we are not all writing on here as often as we used to. Hopefully thay means we are all feeling more confident to handle things on our own, and not that we're getting complacent...lol
I've gotten a little busier lately myself. I've just started 2 online professional development courses, so that has been taking up a lot of my time. The courses themselves only started today, but I'd been spending time organizing my office and doing some pre-reading in order to prepare myself. One thing I am proud of myself for is continuing to stick with the BFL program, no questions asked! In the past I've always tended to put my health and fitness on the back-burner when I got busy. I did end up doing 2 of my workouts at night instead of in the morning, but I got them in!
Lonna, that's awesome that you're getting a Bowflex! I wanted to get one of those, and found one on sale at Sears for a decent price just before I began the program, but my husband thought it would take up too much room. Personally, I think it would have taken up less space then the bench I got, especially when you take into account that the weight plates and stuff take up room too, but I wasn't about to argue with him. I was just happy he was okay with me spending money on exercise equipment at all.
Abs, yes....well today was my LBWO. I did my regular abs workout (I've been doing Russian twists with a 10 lb medicine ball for the first 5 sets - I just lean back more to increase the intensity. Then the last set of 12 is medicine ball crunches on the stability ball). I didn't find that to be enough, so I added 2 more sets of 30 medicine ball crunches on the stability ball, then I did 2 sets of 20 straight leg raises, then I ended with 3 sets of 10 leg scissors (no pause in between, just change the distance of my feet from the floor).
Hope you're all still hanging in there - better yet, hope you're all doing great! I'm going to go update the spreadsheet now.
I really hope more people did not fall off and give up!!!
I am still here!!!
It is so nice here I rode the bike today sooo nice!
So Sherry, it really sounds like you are busy! You really should give yourself a pat on the back for putting yourself and your needs first! That is really awesome! Are the courses for your job or just something you wanted to further your education? Sounds like you are kicking butt on the abs workout too!!
Have a great day!!!!
Hey Guys -
I agree - it is getting more sparse on here! Everyone that hasn't commented as recently - it's really great to read the posts, so motivating, so post when you can!
Lonna - You are doing so awesome! That is really exciting about the bowflex - hang in there until November, it'll be so worth it!! Are you going straight into C2 or will you have a period of 'active rest'? I have a feeling I will have to do a 2nd challenge as well...but I'm trying to think about the timing of it. I really want to just do the one challenge, and then live with slight modifications (i.e. no more interval cardio! Once I hit my goal weight I will probably do activities like tennis or soccer or something and longer walks and stuff, I really don't like interval training lol) but like I said I may need to do a 2nd one...
Sherry - I really think I want to get a stability ball - I think my ab routine is reaching it's peak (my abs aren't sore anymore afterward) so I want to change it up, thanks for the idea! I don't have a medicine ball...do you know how much those are? I think a stability ball is like $10-15...I know how you feel about when life gets busy and normally putting health and fitness on a lower priority level, and I feel this go round I'm finally getting it right and keeping H&F at the top of the list! It's so awesome that you are getting your workouts in and staying focused even when the rubber hits the road!
I started taking my vitamins again, I got some new ones - generic centrum and a super b complex - I don't know if it was the sleep I got yesterday or the vitamins but MAN I feel different today! I just got off work and realized I hadn't had ANY caffeine and was totally ready to take on cleaning my apartment (just as soon as I finish checking in with you guys lol)...normally I have coffee and 1-2 extra strength 5 hr energy drinks at work...so awesome I really hope it's the vitamins and I can feel this way every day lol.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a B&G's kind of day! (i.e. kick-ass, challenge attacking, super impressive and accomplished kind of day)
Oh, I forgot - I've been scrolling through other threads by groups that started a couple of weeks before us to see 'what it's like' down the road, I found it pretty motivating, just as an fyi :)
Hi everyone! I am still here. Working my butts and gut off (I hope) :) Still on track and huffing through every step of the way. My workouts seem to be getting better. My time to get things done seems to be getting harder. I'm managing but many times i feel like I'm not sitting down at all. I guess when I am work that will be my sitdown time.
Banana - good idea about reading other threads who started before us. I think i might do that today.
Sherry - how do you like the medicine ball? I've never used one. I do use a stability ball for my abs and really like using that.
Lonna - awesome about the bowflex! I've always wanted to try one.
Awesome job to everyone for getting our workouts in, even with our crazy busy schedules!!!!
So we are reaching our 1/2 way point. That is amazing! I am planning on weighing, measuring and taking pictures this weekend. I HOPE I see some good results. But if not, I am not giving up. I actually LOVE the program. I think even after the 12 weeks I will continue. I just feel better, and hopefully soon I will be looking better :)
So what kinds of foods does everyone eat? I'd be interested in hearing people's typical day of eating, if you want to share.
Here is my typical day:
Breakfast: egg whites on a whole wheat tortilla
Snack: Myoplex lite bar
Lunch: grilled chicken, tuna, or hummus, usually with cucumbers, light cheese (mozzarella or swiss) and whole wheat pita or whole wheat bread
Snack: 2 rye crisps, light swiss cheese, hummus or turkey
Dinner: Some sort of meat, vegetable, and sometimes a baked or sweet potato
Snack: Myoplex shake
As of now it seems to be working but I will probably have to change it up a bit soon.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Hey everyone, I'm here - I have been sick the weekend and last two days - Feeling better today. Suck to eating right for the most part but haven't been working out. Did a whole bunch of sleeping. Can't chat right now - trying to catch up at work. Hope everyone is doing great. And I hate not feeling good esp. since these last few morning have BEEN BEAUTIFUL! Have a good day all - Hopefully will catch up tomorrow - Sharon

Banana, I am so glad you are fining your clothes are fitting and fitting better!!! that is so great!!!
I found out a couple of days ago that my mother in law is giving me her bowflex! I am really excited about that. And it is really cool that you can add weight/resistant bands to that so it will be usefull for my husband too. Now my mothin law lives in Savanna GA so, we have a trip to SC. and on the way back we are going to pick it up!!! so I will be getting it the first week in Nov. YIPEEEE.
So how are you feeling about your workouts are they getting easier for you?
Mel, I am so happy that your workouts are getting easier! That is such a great feeling!!! You are amazing always on the run but still getting it done! Congrats at being awesome!
Sherry, you made me tired just reading your ab workout!!! LOL amazing my abs hurt for you! way to go!!!
Sharon....I am so sorry you are noth feeling good, take your time and heal up and then you can get back to kickin butt.I hope you are fellin better soon!!!!
Well today is my 39th birthday and I am now down 14lbs, I am hoping by my 40th I will be in my most awesome shape!!!! Last night was hard my mother made a lasagna dinner with all the garlic bread and even a birthday cake, I ate only the salad and because it was a homemade red velvet cake, I ate a very smalll piece, I have plans for my "freebie" day and I did not know she was going to make a cake so I FLUBBED a wee bit but I am still on the path! My husband suprised me and got me a free standing heavy punching bad! He says now I can beat on that instead of him! LOL silly man he is fun to beat on!!! Well I hope the rest of this week is easy!
Have a wonderful day every one!!!

I wrote this down on a piece of paper and posted it on my fridge.
Ok I had a great day!! My hamstrings are still very sore from LBWO and now I think my chest and shoulders are going to join my hamstrings is stiffness!! LOL
Sherry I love that quote! Thank yu for sharing that!!!
Mel, I thnk maybe I need to eat more, I am not having as many meals but I am eating when I am hungry.
This week is tough but thats ok! Thank you for sharing your diet with me!
have a great night!!!!
I guess I have been gone too long on the radar, but I have been sticking to it. I did miss a day but can make up for that later on my free day.
But I have to tell you guys, I am planning on something BIG! Don't want to say it now, in case something comes up and it is a bust. But I am pretty excited about it.
Happy Belated birthday Lonna ! And you are getting a Bow flex, thats great! My mom is giving me her total gym, ( I have a generic bowflex - the crossbow - but its too big for my space now.) and I have to go 803 miles to get it! Gonna see her for Thanksgiving which will be just after our 12 weeks are completed. I know that I will be doing another round, but who knows I am working on my eating clean now, and hopefully will get this program down pat. Not really seeing any results, except my endurance is A LOT better.
Hey Sharon, I hope you feel better soon.
Anna : Ha Ha, I too was checking out another group ( which I originally started - but those first two week were pretty iffy, so thats when I joined this group and have been sticking to it. But someone signed off with this phrase:
I hope you are eating clean and working out dirty. (I thought that was pretty funny)
Mel: your menu sounds like something I will be trying. Thanks! Still struggling with that ( especially when I have to cook for my "nonTransforming" family.
Sherry, I have found out that I do better working out at night. Try as I might, I will have all intentions of doing it first thing, then whffffft, where did the day go.
And thats what I am going to do now.
Have a great day and week end - and keep happy thoughts of my BIG adventure.
Hey Gutts and Butts!!!!!
Melissa, It is soooo good to see you on here!!!! I thought we lost you! We have had a few drop off so I am just so happy to see you! I am so excited about your BIG ADVENTURE!!!!!!!!!!!! I will send you all my happy thoughts to you!!!
Well today has been a good day for me already. I am right now wearing scrubs I have not been in for probably over 2 years!!! and This is my Fave top ever!!!LOL
I am still at 14 lbs lost but my body shape is changeing sooooo much. Its very nice.
I am sticking to the eating plan as much as possible in fact I think maybe I need to eat more but I am simply not hungry...... which is VERY strange for me.
I hope every one has a great day!!!
Oh and Melissa I really like the
I hope you are all eating clean and working out dirty!!! That is great!
Happy belated birthday Lonna! Sorry I didn't say it the day of.
For those of us that started on August 30th, do you realize that after this weekend we'll be past the halfway point (well, the halfway point of the first challenge for me, but I still have a ways to go to get to the half way point of where I want to be)? Isn't it exciting though? I have 9.5 lbs gone, numerous inches and I have been noticing lately that my biceps are starting to "fill out" lol. I would have liked a couple more pounds gone, but I'm happy to be seeing the positive changes going on with my body.
I'm proud of myself that I've gotten this far without missing a workout, but I expect that will change after this weekend. It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, and I'll be making the 6-7 hour drive (depending on how my son is doing and how often I have to stop for him) to visit the inlaws tomorrow, and they have no exercise equipment at their house. I can potentially get to a local gym on Sunday and Tuesday, then I'll be driving back on Wednesday. It will probably be a tough long weekend for eating and workouts, but I'm going to do the best I can and try to "focus on progress, not perfection."
Bananas, I paid about $35.00 Canadian for a 10 lb medicine ball. The ones with the handles tend to be a little more expensive.
Mel, I really like the medicine ball because it increases resistance for ab excercises. One exercise I do is the stability ball crunches, and I hold the medicine ball above my head as I do them to increase the resistance. I'm thinking now I may have to get a heavier one...
Last night after my cardio I did 4 sets of 30 (120 total) stability ball crunches with the medicine ball over my head. I could have done more. I have strong abs from the years of martial arts training and I always have to look for ways to add resistance, otherwise I'm doing them til the cows come home and I'm bored silly and my neck is sore. That being said though, you'd think after years of martial arts I'd be good at push ups too, but I still suck at them. I wonder what's up with that?
Anyway, have to go work on my online courses and get ready for my trip. So much to do, so little time! And I definately can't miss tonights workout, since this weekend will be so tough.
Oh yeah, Mel, I've been doing evening workouts myself too these days. I still prefer mornings, but I can't fit it in at that time, since my son tends to wake up anywhere between 5 and 6am. I hope to get back to mornings once my hubby gets home in December and can take over getting my son when he wakes up. In the meantime, I'm doing them when I can get them in, which tends to be at night once my son goes to bed.
Hope you all have an awesome weekend!
