Preparing for the Q4 Body for Life Challenge! Care to join the journey?!?!?

  • OUCH! is right. I hope your shoulder heals quickly. My thumb is coming along and I was able to do an UBWO last night plus 20 min. on the treadmill. The only thing it wouldn't tolerate was push ups. I was set for cardio tonight, but my head has been killing me most of the day. I seem to get a headache lots of times after I've done shoulders. I think I tense up too much. I try to be aware of it, but it still happens sometimes.

My nutrition has been great so far this week. I really want to keep the holidays under control and not go crazy on all the crap they will have in the lounge. We're done with school early (next Friday) so it's only another week of staying out of there. We do have a staff party that night, but that won't be too tough.

I hope we hear from the other stray members. I, for one, plan to do much better on our second challenge than I have on this one. I still want to be down 8 lbs. by Jan. 5th when I have my vein surgery. If I keep my nutrition in check and walk the 2 weeks after I should be able to lose another couple pounds. That's the plan anyway!

  • 1HdHawk, congrats on the healing!!! I’ve also had issues overstressing for certain stations myself but realizing it is ½ the battle young lady! Congrats on the solid nutrition too! At work yesterday they had free cappuccino and fruit smoothies but they were LOADED with sugar so I passed then today they had free bratwursts and German pastries but once again I managed to just say no!

So after yesterday’s shoulder blow out I planned on tearing into LBWO today with a vengeance. I got 5 hours of uninterrupted shut eye last night then things started off pretty well, kind of a dull ache but nothing too bad through cardio 1 then into LBWO circuit 1 until I hit the nut cracker leg extension station.

Since I’ve finally gotten that station max’d out on the plate load, in order to keep my butt planted and rep form proper, I have to grip the handles firmly and didn’t think that clear through! Got about ½ way through the first rep and shoulder tugged hard…YEOWWW! Okay, now I’m ticked! Scoot back hard against the back rest to help stay planted and crank on, still hurts but doable. Leg curls next, about the same. All other stations no biggie but the pain is now just a dull soul numbing ache. Grrr! Now the grizzly is out of hibernation!!!

Cranked out my mid-term cardio and blew through the second LBWO circuit on a freaking mission. When I hit the leg curl station on the second lap, one of the AM regulars starts laughing at me so I pop an earbud to see what’s up and he warns me that the gym manager chick is gonna get after me as I was apparently really growling at it, since I was doing straight 20s instead of 2×10s LOL! I guess he was kind of right since she & I made eye contact as I approached the dreadmill for my final HIIT wind down and she just turned and walked the other way like a sheep that just locked eyes with the wolf LOL!

Anyhow, today’s results were AWESOME! 92,200 LBs of LBWO iron @ 1.53 Tons per Minute (PR for intensity!!!) in between 404 cardio calories @ 13.5 Calories / Minute while climbing 226 vertical feet. Tomorrow will probably be primarily cardio but I may just stick a toe in the dumbbell arena to see what she’ll tolerate!

Rock on Q4 crew!!! Chime in, even if it’s just to say HOWDY!

  • Oh my gosh, picturing you in the gym makes me laugh! The gym manager shouldn't care how much noise you make. Take it easy on that shoulder. Don't try to push it too fast.

I started a new LBWO tonight and barely made it through. I have a feeling I'm going to be hurting tomorrow! I could barely walk up the stairs from my home gym!

Hope the rest of the crew is hanging in there. Hope to hear from you all soon!

  • OK, Frick checking in...been on the road for the past two weeks, so been good at the workouts, not so good on the diet...On a flight to Chicago right now for some holiday schnapping (drinking while shopping).  I'll try to be good - vodka and club soda ;-) but I doubt I will make it to the gym for a couple of days.  Will be returning to normalcy on Monday.  Back home.

I finished up the crazy challenge at work and must say, it has trained me to eat more salads and a serving of oatmeal daily.

Cant believe graduation is in two weeks.  I got many compliments from my coworkers (dont see them but once every month or more).  Learned the Afrikans expression for skin and bones. "hokenhotta"  or something like that.  LOL.  Let's kick it in, in the home stretch.  looking forward to a great holiday season

Great to see the rest of the crew is still here.

  • Sounds like you're on track to a great finish. Never heard the term holiday schapping, but I like it!

I'm off to the treadmill. I'm so sore I can barely move. Thank God for Aleve!

  • 1HdHawk, apparently my growling at the iron has practically tuned into a running joke but she still wants to maintain “An appropriately professional atmosphere where all patrons feel comfortable” LMAO! Congrats on that new LBWO too! Sounds like you’ve found something there!

FRICK!!! Welcome back dude! Life on the road is SUCH a drag!!! Been there, done that, burnt the 5X tee shirt!!! Congrats on keeping the workouts in check, that’s tough!

Well Q4 Crew (if anybody else is still lurking out there), yet another Saturday slammer is in the books! Knowing that I’ve got my week long trip to the edge of the Smokey Mountains in just 14 days I need to get in all the work I can to get my flatlander endurance built up!

As with pretty much any other speed record, you have to back it up with a repeat of equal or better results for it to matter so today I decided I had to see if I could back up, or improve on, Thursdays LBWO 1.53 Tons per Minute intensity record and sure enough it got validated!

Matching weights & reps from Thursday, I started off stretching then cranked through both LBWO sets again delivering 92,200 LBs of iron displaced at an even improved intensity of 1.61 Tons per Minute today!!! Cardio was pretty kick butt today as well, totaling 420 calories @ 14.0 Calories per Minute while climbing 230 vertical feet in the process.

Tomorrow is going to be another cardio-thon with maybe a wee set of dumbbell work snuck in to see how the shoulder is progressing so…stay tuned & rock on!!!

  • Got a great UBWO and HIIT done this morning. Looks like the treadmill and I will be friends for a while. I'm not doing cardio outside when it's 17 below 0 windchill!

Roosed, I can't believe all you're doing with your bum shoulder! Way to go.

I'm not quite as sore today thank goodness. Hope everyone else is on track out there!

  • 1HdHawk, thanks young lady! If I let up now I'll never get this freight train over the hill LOL!

Q4 Crew, I actaully got 10 hours of sleep in two shots last night and did that extra rest ever help today!!!

Eased the shoulder back into action with 30,000 LBs of Shoulders, BIs & TRIs on top of 675 Cardio Calories scorched off at 15.0 Calories per Minute while climbing 473 vertical feet!

Now that's a day of rest put to good use!!!

My overall Body for Life challenge 2 results to date are:

    -15.0 LBs

    -1.0% Body Fat

-9.0 Bad Inches (Chest, Waist, Hips & Thighs)

+1.0 Good Inch (Forearms & Calves)

Biceps and neck all measure the same but are much firmer so there is progress it just seems to be offesetting as I go along.

Let's knock these last 2 weeks out of the park crew!!!

  • Are you freaking kidding me??? 18 degrees & a 20 MPH breeze??? I thought I moved to Memphis?!?!? Geeze! I dread to think what January is gonna be like but thank goodness for global warming!!! WIthout that it might REALLY be cold!

    Rock on crew!

Let's send this cold crap home with Santa!!!

  • Hi all.  I was trying to post earlier but couldn't get it to actually show up!

Week 10 here.  Dealing with yet another illness.  Somehow I am managing to get all my WOs in.  Food last week was T-O-U-G-H.  I took some "free meals" instead of a free day.   I really didn't like that approach.

Trying to get through this rut and END STRONG!

  • Kellyw, hang in there young lady! Completing what you’ve worked so hard on so far will give you an AMAZING start on the next round! Got to remember this is “For Life” afterall!

Well crew, last night was a LITTLE better! I got 5 hours of shut eye instead of 4.5 BUT it was only broken in 2 parts rather than 3. I also had the MOST incredible dream the first 2 hours that made them seem like 8 so…got up this morning 15 minutes before the alarm even chirped & cranked it up!

Hit the gym for UBWO & decided to push the bum shoulder on every station to see where it’d cry uncle today. Made it back to 90% of the previous max on all but the 2 most “pulling” stations where 85% was all she’d take. All & all not bad for barely a week down! Pushed through & ground out 52,080 LBs of iron at a pitiful pace of .65 Tons per Minute but intensity wasn’t the focus today. Today was about form & pushing it to the limit, to find that ragged edge once again, to re-begin the ascent!

HIIT Cardio was decent today as well. Cardio pulse today ranged from 61% beginning to a max of 94% which is still a bit higher than I’d like but better than the 100% chest pounding of yesterday! Torched off 420 cardio calories at 14.0 Calories per Minute while climbing 295 vertical feet in the process.

Just 11 days to go gang! Let's all chime in and finish strong!!!

  • Last night I succumbed to the couch instead of a workout. BAD! The thought crossed my mind again tonight, but I "just did it" and got a great LBWO and HIIT both done.

I hope we hear from some of our lost sheep to find out how they're doing. I checked Rob and Jen's page a while back and they looked like they were still on target.

3 more days of work and then I'm off for 2 weeks for winter break. There should be no excuse for not working out then.

  • Way to push through 1HdHawk!!! I've heard those couches can be seriously addictive!!!

Well gang, I continue to be amazed at just how absolutely mental this workout gig really is! Yesterday I hit the iron arena on 5 hours sleep in a great mood from an awesome dream and kicked the *** out of it on upper body day no less! Today, LBWO day (my favorite!) I hit it again on 5 hours sleep but having had a totally bizarre nightmare, seemingly all night long, about deceased friends and relatives all up and going about life like I was the one out of place and the iron just didn’t want to budge! However, the work got done!!!

84,870 LBs of lower body iron got rearranged @ 1.04 Tons per Minute nuzzled in between my 3 HIIT cardio stompfests totaling 450 calories @ 15.0 Calories per Minute average while climbing 257 vertical dreadmill feet. The cardio pulse started out at 61% and max’d out at 92% today.

Looking to crash a little early tonight and see if I can find Monday night’s happy place again!!! Many more nights wandering around in my skull with the ghosts of lifetimes past is likely to have me looking up the men in the little white jackets myself LMAO!!!

Rock on pals! The weekend is coming and Santa is in hot pursuit!

  • I hear ya on the sleep thing. I wandered around for about an hour starting at 2:45 this morning. Due to that, I didn't get my HIIT in this morning. I ran all over the place after work tonight and was frozen by the time I got home. I lost all enthusiasm for working out. I have to get my attitude in check and push through on days like these! I can't believe how much you do on so little sleep Dave.

Tomorrow will be a double workout day I hope. One workout minimum. I'm looking forward to having 2 weeks off when I can get all my workouts in. Wishing you a restful night of more than 5 hrs. sleep!

  • 1HDHawk, sleep is a precious commodity these days. Catch it when you can!!!

Hey Q4 crew, Happy Friday!!! Home stretch ya know! Turns out I’ll be heading out of town fairly early on Christmas Eve day & will be gone until Jan 2nd so I’ll have to post my finals the evening of 12-23 or WAY early 12-24 but that’s okay, the work’s still getting done!

Only managed 4 horrid hours or interrupted sleep last night & about freaking died, multiple times, during this morning’s lower body blast but again…the work has to get done!

94,300 LBs of lower body iron got ground at a pace of 1.51 Tons per Minute in between my 3 HIIT cardio stompfests totaling 455 calories burnt while climbing 364 vertical treadmill feet. BTW, I’ve dropped down to 361.8 which represents 19.2 LBs shed so far for this challenge! I’ve got another 2.8 that just HAS to go before Santa gets here!!!

    BONZAI!!!
