Hey B&G's!!!!
I just wanted to give a BIG shout out to you guys - I had a really rough week, particularly at work, and then my car blew up while I was driving it so much car drama going on... On Wednesday in particular I didn't want to get out from the covers and go to the gym and work out, but I thought about all of the posts you guys had about getting it done when you didn't want to and I couldn't not rise to the occasion :)
Vacationers: You can totally do bfl on the road!! B&G's all gave great advice! It might be a little work but being prepared totally helps!
Sherry: I'm so sorry about your hubby! My Dad moved to Charleston a year and a half ago for work and only makes it home every few weekends...with 4 kids under 15 my Mom has a hard time sometimes, but you can do it, and what a great Christmas present that will be!
Sharron: I LOVE Germans! I've always wanted one, and someday I will have one (like when I have a house, not an apartment, so like in a million years :)
Gramme: I so know where you're at! It can be very hard changing so many things in your life at the same time - I think in the first 2 days of this challenge I ate more veggies and drank more water than I did the whole month of August...I'm pretty sure I'm the unhealthiest person I know...but trust me it is inside you - you can do it. Planning is HUGE. Because there is so much that is new, if you don't plan then it's very very very hard to get everything new in during you day, at least for me. Take it one day at a time and don't beat yourself up if you don't get it just right, tell yourself that you will do better tomorrow and think, specifically, about what you can do to improve tomorrow. Trust me, you have it in you to do great things, and you have this awesome group to back you up!! If you give us some specifics about what you struggle with the most, or a time/situation that is hardest for you, we'll all offer solutions :)
Keep the posts going guys - they help me out tremendously so I know they must help others! I'm so glad its my free day tomorrow...My body and mind need a break and I have some serious cravings going on!!!
Banana
Hey Butts and Guts! Hope everyone had a great weekend and a great day off!
Sherry - I am right there with you when it comes to the journal. I bought the journal also and it has really helped me plan out my meals. Good jobs on saying no to the chips!!!!!!
Melissa - not a problem. I am definitely not a Missy either, but I don't mind Mel at all :)
Banana - great job in getting out of bed and getting your workout in.
Lonna - I hope you are enjoying Disneyland!
Grammekin - You can do it! Just keep adding something new in. I was reading the Champions book for body for life and one of the champions said they started by focusing on their food first - they still worked out, but not as intense. Then after about a week of getting the food under control, they really focused on their workouts. So if you feel overwhelmed by changing everything at once, maybe try one thing at a time. Remember this isn't an "instant gratification" diet, this is a forever lifestyle change!
And to all the other Butts and Guts out there - hope things are going well for you. Keep moving!!!!!!
So, I had a great day off and really enjoyed myself. I didn't enjoy myself this morning though when I had to get up and workout. I did it though! 20 minutes hard-core cardio. It wasn't too bad but I was definitely sweating. I am thinking I might not go too overboard on my next day off. I just don't feel very good the next day. Hopefully the way I was feeling before my day off comes back soon. I do feel rested though. What does everyone else do for their days off? Do you go all out or do you stay pretty close to plan? I have heard people do it both ways.
I also went out and bought the Oxygen magazine. I plan to read it tonight.
Week 3 starts this week! Don't they say after 21 days it becomes habit. Only 1 more week until we hit that milestone. We can do it!!!!!!
Mel
Hello all!!!! How was everyone while I was gone????LOL
Ok I am just going to start by saying the good stuff, We has SUCH a great time at Disney with our firends and made new ones too, I have NEVER walked so much or sweat so much. I got more than my fair share of cardio in, eating was a bit of a problem. My Myoplex bars all melted, and warm shakes make my stomach turn, so I did the best I could but was far from Clean eating. I am glad one of those days was my "cheat" day butstill feel bad about today. My feet hurt so bad and my Hamstrings and calves are screaming. So for me tomorrow is getting back to it! I did not go way off with the eating but enough to feel not as good as I was so tomorrow will be VERY clean! LOL!!!
I will be back to normal tomorrow... Gotta go do laundry,
Lonna
PS, I did not get to read all I missed but It sounds like everyone did good!!! and I really hope yall had a good weekend!
Hello all... Print more pages of the journal and catching up on everyone's weekend. Mine was good - every busy. My daughter is in jr national honor society and is required to volunteer. I have to volunteer with her because of her age. So my free day I got to walk dogs from 1-4 in the florida heat. It wasn't all bad, we do enjoy it but my legs are still hurting from LBWO the other day. So tonight I am just going to relax, plan my meals and weights and hope my stomach calms down. I was bad today I ate a cheeseburger for breakfast and another for lunch and then went to coldstone's this evening. Dont think the grease and fat is settling too good with me. :) Tomorrow am ready to get back too it. Hope everyone has a great night!
Sharon
Sharon,
I so hear ya! We walked around Disney in the heat for 2 days and I tried to eat healthy planned my meals but, Myoplex bars melted...Myoplex shakes do NOT taste good warm.. So like you I did what I did and really do not feel as good as I did. But for us today is another day and we just pick up and continue our journey! I hope you feel better!
Hello everyone,
I just got my Oxygen mag in the mail this weekend, YES!!!!!l. I have been getting it for about 3 years now. I like the workout articels and the food ideas. It is a good visual motivator!!
I can't believe it's week 3!! I just have to remember that I didn't see results until the last month. So not to get discouraged and just remember to push though!!!
Go Butts and Gutts!!!
Petal
Hey everyone,
I know I was missing all of last week but was working on a major bathroom renovation that was taking up 10 hours of my day but I am back now. Stuck to the meal plan and got in my aerobic workouts despite the hectic schedule but was unable to get into the gym all week. Getting back on the wagon today though and am about to head to the gym for upper body and followed by some swimming. Glad to hear everyone is holding strong.
Zack
Hey all, sounds like you Disney folks needed to take coolers with you. Ihave taken bars on hikes before and yes they do melt. Ahh well its not about perfection its about continuation.
I cannot go to the spreadsheets at work and I havent had a chance to do them at home with work and school and working out. But I have gone everyday except Friday due to an after work party. Which got me thinking. How many folks here workout in the morning adn hwo many inthe afternoon. It would be col to seee who did better the afternoon group or the morning group. I am going to change to my time to the am as I so enjoy having time after work to do my school work and make dinner then relax. It would also keep me outta my husbands hair who is always so grumpy in the morning.
Oh and I had two cheat meals this weekend and both made me feel sick! I hope that continues so I will always second guess cheating and with what food. Any one else feels crappy after a cheat?
Lisa
Petal, That is you made me decide to get the Oxygen mag...will do that tomorrow! I am also glad to hear about some not getting results untill later cuz I am not seeing much in the way of scale difference or otherwise. I am not discouraged tho' gotta keep pluggin along!
Zach, Good to see you back. I hope the bathroom project turned out good!
Lisa, I wanted to bring a cooler but could not carry one around all day with riding the rides and such. LOL And when the bars melt some of them resemeble Poo! LOL, I stuck the melted ones in the fridge and when they got cooled off I went to eat one but my husband was laughing at me so hard..LOL another lessoned learned.
I work out in the afternoon, I get up early as it is i cannot see me getting out of bed at 3 am...
I have fglet really bad after each "cheat meal" kinda deters me from wanting to do it again!
Well did my upper baid and thinking I will be good and sore in the morning!
Way to go gutts and butts!!
Lets have another good week!
Hi B & G's! Hope you're all doing great.
For anyone who has had some challenges sticking to the program lately (vacation, bathroom renos, newness of the lifestyle, etc.), just remember what Bill said many times in the book:
"Focus on prograss, not perfection!"
Don't let the setbacks get you down. You're all doing great. When something keeps you from following the program for a time, just do the best you can then move on. Nobody's perfect! All we can do is keep on trying to improve and move forward.
I am with you guys who have mentioned feeling not-so-great after cheat day meals. I had decided to try not to overdo it on my free days, but today is my 37th birthday, so I figured I'd use my free day yesterday to "celebrate" and I ordered in last night. I felt horrible afterwards! I don't think I'll be doing that too often. You know, it's almost like your body rejects junk food when it's used to getting the good stuff. I think that's telling us something, and at the very least it should make it easier for us to stick with the program!
Petal, I used to have a subscription to Oxygen back when I did the BFL program 8 or 9 years ago. They used to have a centre-fold type of thing with a description of a different weight exercise every month. I used to copy and laminate them and post them around my work out area. In fact, I still have them and just took them out to use again this time. I always found reading the articles and seeing the pictures of the super fit girls to be great inspiration as well. After the first time you mentioned it on here I went out and bought one. Maybe I'll get a subscription again.
I forgot who asked, and I'm afraid to go back and look in case I lose my post again, but for the first week and a half of the program I would get up early annd work out before 21 month old got up in the morning. I loved that - got it out of the way early so I wouldn't be able to find any excuse not to do it, got me syked up for the day, etc. Since my husband went to the UK, though, my son hasn't been sleeping well - he wakes up numerous times at night and is up early in the morning. So I haven't been able to do them before he gets up anymore. Now I just fit them in whenever I can, but I still try to do it before lunch if I can.
In the BFL book, Bill says you should do your workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach so that your body uses it's fat stores instead of any carbs you've eaten, and so you rev your metabolism for the day. But that's often easier said than done. I think when it comes right down to it, life does not always allow us to pick and chose our workout schedule and we have to work around other things (especially when you have kids). The most important thing is to make sure you get it in.
Well, day 15 is successfully under my belt! I'm still feeling good. I did my UBWO this morning, but I'm still feeling my abs from Friday's workout! Gotta love those sore muscles!
Stay strong, B&G's! We're gettin' there!
Sherry
Going over the top and having the horrible feeling after cheat meals is actually beneficial as it will help you want to stay on diet throughout the week to avoid that feeling again.
As for the morning afternoon I do a bit of both. On MWF I wake up before class and run a 5K in around 25-30 minutes and am trying to progess to a 10K in about 45 minutes by the end of the challenge and then after my classes end I workout about mid-afternoon. On TRS I go to the gym after my classes end about noon and do a yoga class then my intervals before a nice dive into the cold plunge (we keep the water at a balmy 50 degrees) to keep my muscles from being to sore the following day.
I am feeling a lot better now that I am back on the wagon, just wish I could find a training partner. Feel like I could push myself so much farther if I had someone there to spot me at the gym.
Off to bed though to make sure I get enough sleep.
"Waiting to do something isn't enough, you must do it."
Sherry - Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great day!
Petal - I bought the Oxygen magazine and love it. I just ordered a subscription to it. The articles are great and definitely keep me going.
Zack - I think you are right about how feeling horrible after cheat meals is beneficial and helps you to avoid wanting to eat that way during the week. Ever since Saturday (my cheat day), I have only wanted healthy. So although I felt crappy on Sunday, I am feeling good again and want to continue.
I workout in the mornings. I wake up at 5 before my kids get up and get my workout in. For me, I know if I don't get it in the morning, I won't get my workout in at all. Everytime in the past I have tried to workout at night, I always have an excuse. So as of now, I have kept with my morning workouts.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Happy Happy Birthday Sherry!!!
Happy Birthday Sherry! hope it is a great day -
I get oxygen mag. also - Jamie writes for it but I haven't had a chance to really read it - I scan it first them in a few days read it. I didn't see her article in this months. :( - But I try most of the reciepes in it and really have found winners. One I really like was a few months back "herbal Lenils" Made it again last night. Very tasty. Hope everyone is having a great day.
I try and do cardio in the morning but I have been having a hard time getting it in before work due to the puppies. Miss this morning again - will get it in this evening.
I do the LB and UPWO in the afternoon at the gym most of the time.
Lonna, thanks I do feel better... just really tired
Good Morning all, I'm waking up now. Missed schedules cardio yesterday - Puppies were up sick most of the night 2 nights ago. They are doing much better now. Hope everyone is doing great - LBWO today - Yeah - think I will remember I drive a jeep LOL
Have a great day - Sharon
