How was your first day? (June 14th)

  • Hi Autumn. Whenever you feel like cheating (that time will surely come up), just write down what it is you are craving and remind yourself that you can have it as soon as your cheat day arrives. Once cheat day comes, look back to the list of all of the things you were craving... you will probably find some interesting trends!

  • Hi everyone,

I admit, I love greek yogurt, especially with a little fruit mixed in. Yum. I like to freeze it too and it reminds me of ice cream. I just had a great upper body workout over my lunch break and I feel so energized. You know you've started the BFL journey again when you dump your myoplex lite shake down your front on your way back to work!! Good thing I had cherries and cashews. :)  I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning, head to the pool, and know I am on my way again.....

  • Hi Legs!

I gave a friend for her b'day (In May, I had a thread about it) the BFL book, journal & EFL book. Way before that I gave her my gazelle. IF she ever brings up BFL, she has not yet but I will wait for her, she had done a lot of traveling lately, anyway, how do you do HIIT on the gazelle so I can tell her.

    Thanks! Enjoy cycle 2!!!

  • My thoughts when I have a craving:  Feeling healthier, being stronger (and thinner!) and successful at this journey feels so much better than ___________  tastes!!!

When I slipped a size 4 dress over my head after challenge 1, I knew my positive thinking helped me conquer my cravings.

  • Hey Autumn,

The protein shake is easy.  2 cups of skim milk, 2 scoops of protein powder (I use EAS chocolate), and one package of fat-free sugar-free pudding. (They all work... pick what you like... I'm kind of hooked on cheese cake, vanilla, and chocolate)   Put the milk in the blender first... then add the other ingredients.  Blend for about 45 seconds.  Pour into 2 bowls.  I use cereal bowls.   Put in the refrigerator until set.   It makes 2 servings.  I use it as my last meal of the day so I eat the whole serving.  It has the correct protein/carb ratio and amounts to qualify as a meal.  You really can't go wrong.  It is something you can have while your kids are having ice cream!  Enjoy and congrats on day 2.  I had a great workout this morning also.  I definitely took it up a level.

  • Kerstin,

I'll have to try freezing it.  I had it again today on half a baked potato and I wasn't gagging like yesterday... but still I really had to force it down.  It's just so healthy I feel like I have to eat it.  Keep that motivation up.  I must admit I did a little swimming today also.  I just had to.  The pool on my base is only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day so I am trying to take advantage of it.  Think about all of us while your working out tomorrow.  It will give you an extra boost.

  • Thanks Mark- I'm definitely going to make that!!! It sounds like it will also satisfy my sweet tooth.

Also, Rockstar had an excellent idea of writing down all the cravings I have during the week and see if I want it on Sunday. I might just see a pattern and realize it wasn't what I really wanted.

You all have some excellent ideas. I'm hating the planning portion but it has to be done or I will not follow. I have most of my meals for the week already done. I just have to write them down and plan my lower body workout for tomorrow. (got to go get some fat-free, sugar free pudding though)

How bad is cheese?? Can I use the Snack size 2% Crackel Barrel Cheese wedge as a protein? Or is considered a fat and need to avoid it all together? I thought some cheeses were ok. Obviously I can't have my cream cheese and things like that, but I was hoping I could get my cheese fix though the 2% cheese wedge.

    YOU ALL ROCK!!!!!!

  • Can't help you there Autumn,

I personally avoid cheese and nuts while on the program because I love them so much.  Also I have a hard time eating just a little of either of them.  They are my "trigger" foods.  That's what Free Day is for.  I did buy more Greek yogurt today.  I must be a masochist!  I refuse to give up on this stuff.  About the free day... It has been my experience that come Sunday I actually feel kind of guilty eating really bad.  Also... I think my stomach must shrink from eating the 6 smaller meals because if I eat even a moderate portion of something I will feel like I'm going to explode.  That doesn't make for a lot of enjoyment on a free day.  Then I can't wait for Monday to roll around so I can get back on track.  At least for now I am not having any cravings for anything outrageous come Sunday.  But I can guarantee you I... Will ...Not... Be... Eating... Greek... Yogurt... On... Sunday!!!  Have a great workout tomorrow!  You'll be half way through the first week.  It's all down hill from here on out!

  • Awww Poop... You rained on my Cheese parade Mark!! Haha... its all good though. I love cheese and nuts too so I see where it can be a problems. I just found it very convenient to through in a fruit and single cheese snack (2% cheddar) for a quick afternoon snack  (it took me 45 minutes to eat my 3pm meal at work today because I was so busy).

I totally agree with you about feeling guilty on the free day. I think I will indulge without going overboard.

    Thanks again Mark!!

  • Autumn,  I didn't like Greek yogurt either, but I learned on this site that Chobani is good.  I tried it and it really is good.  The first one I tried was the peach; the first bite seemed like sour cream, but after that it was okay.  The second one I tried was raspberry; it was even better than Yoplait.  I will be trying other flavors soon.  I hope you like it too since it is supposed to be so good for us. :-)

  • Hi all!   I started on Monday too!   I did B4L 7 years ago and loved it...two kids later and just turned 40....I am ready to plan...prepare....and transform!   I love all the posts and am so thankful to be part of the group!

  • Add 2 more to the list. My wife and I started yesterday (Monday) as well. Due to our figuring out how to work out together with limited weights I started with the lower body workout and have been walking around like a penguin all day today due to my sore leg muscles. Ran this morning for the cardio and I just finished planning my upper body workout for tomorrow morning.

I have to head out of town for the night for work tomorrow so that will be the first big test of the healthy eating for me, but I've made a plan for what to eat and when (mostly food bought from a local grocery store vs. going out to restaurants). Going out of town on an expense account has usually been a good excuse to order big unhealthy meals but I'll be changing that this time.

  • Hi boardwalkvillas!

Love to hear couples doing BFL together! My husband & I are in week 10! We love working out together! We have a gym set up in our basement. As far as the DB's he always uses a higher weight than me so those are easy to share but we had to buy more weight plates, I found some on craigslist.com and we have a used sporting goods store called "Play It Again Sports" where we can get used weights for 55 cents a pound.

    Enjoy your BFL journey together!!!

  • Hi everyone,

I can't figure out for the life of me how to start a new daily thread. Can anyone help me out? I had a great swim practice this morning with my master's team. I ate before my swim and that was a big mistake, but I was really hungry, so I thought I should given that it was sprint day...never again! That was at 5am. I just had my second meal at 9:30am. Cherries and lowfat cheese sticks, so we'll see when I get hungry again.

I love Chobani! I buy the big box at Costco-blueberry, strawberry and peach. I love mixing it with blueberries for a meal.

I do incorporate lowfat cheese sticks into BFL becuase they satisfy me and then I don't want to go overboard on my "Freer Day"...the all or nothing mentality doesn't work for me for the free day, so I try to have small amounts of cheese as protein and nuts as healthy fats during the day and that seems to work better for me. Yes, my results might be a bit slower, but I feel more balanced.

I forgot my running stuff-I was going to go running at lunch-so I'll do that after work. I'm building back up to a 5k after getting injured during training for my last marathon. :( Looking forward to lower body workout tomorrow! Hope everyone has a great day. Bring on Day 2 for me!
