Okay, so first week, down! I am so proud of my family (hubby and kids, 12 and 14) for committing to this with me.
I haven't done measurements on the kids yet (and don't think I'll post them even when I do), but after 1 week, my husband has lost 3 inches off his chest, 1/2 inch off his waist, 1 in on each thigh and 1/4 in on each calf (total 6inches, first week).
My loss was encouraging as well: waist-4 inches (woo hoo!); belly-pooch 3 inches:); hips/bottom 1 inch, right calf 1/4 inch, each thigh 1 inch (total inches 10.25 :o)
Also, on a personal note, I am proud of my self-control on my first free day. We had a carry-in dinner after church and I actually got full on about 1/3 what I normally would've eaten; and we went to the Mexican restaurant for dinner (where chips and salsa are my fave), I ate about 10 chips, and ended up taking over half my entree home for 6th meal! What the heck, my off-switch hasn't worked for years! Thank you BFL.
More to come!
Great job RockinMom!
Doesn't it feel good?!?!?
Sandelio, it feels amazing... I am so glad to see such fast results. Of course, I'm not so naive as to expect every week to be so productive (after all, I'm relying on diet and weights, no cardio), but I'm hoping my progress will keep my kids inspired (and myself!). But I've gotta tell ya, even if it wasn't working so quickly, I think I'd still do it, because I just FEEL so much better!
Congrats to all of you, Rockin Mom! Keep up the good work. That's nice your whole family is doing BFL. It's tough when we live with others who are eating "whatever" and we can't have that food. I live by myself, so I get by pretty easily in that department.
Fortunately, my kids are still young enough to realize that they don't have a choice!!! And they're OLD enough to care about being healthy (and what their friends will think of them at the pool in a swimsuit probably has a lot to do with it).
My daughter has early PCOS and is insulin resistant, so we have to do something quick, fast, and in a hurry. She just doesn't have the motivation yet to do it on her own (heck, I'm 36 and am just getting motivated!), so this way we're all accountable to each other, and I think that helps too. I'll do their measurements tonight when they get home, so they can see their progress.
Thanks for the support!
Please keep us posted! Also you can come here for support too. :P
Okay, so first week went just as well for my kids... While I won't post exact numbers for body parts, my daughter lost 11.5 total inches (yay!) and son lost 4 total (he doesn't have as much to lose as us). But we all can tell the difference in our energy levels and I especially don't feel the 'brain fog'. My LBWO yesterday flared my sciatica but I'm pullin' thru! Need to remember to wear my back brace to maintain form. Duh. I'll keep posting!
Yay, for the progress you all made this week. Sorry the sciatica is acting up. :(
Hope you feel better soon.
Having lots of positive reactions this week... I'll be posting updates in the other May 16 threads so we won't have as many to keep up with!
Congratulations on your great start RockinMom75! It's great to hear your family is being so supportive as well. We do need to say that the Body-for-LIFE program was not designed specifically for young individuals under the age of 18. The program can be adapted to suit the needs of your kids, but we recommend a healthcare provider be involved in the selection of age appropriate exercise and diet plans for each of your kids. Keep up the good work and let us know if we can answer any questions!

Thanks, BFL, for the encouragement and the concern. I have modified the plan a bit for the kids, and they are under their regular physician's supervision. She has been concerned for 2 years or more about their steady weight gain, and is familiar with the BFL eating plan. She suggested the Zone/glycemic index type of diet, so this fits into her specific guidelines for them. And don't worry, their exercise activities are more outside games/yardwork/bikes/tennis than any hardcore lifting or prescribed cardio.
Thanks again for the concern, and the encouragement. This has been a great source of support and information.

My 14 y/o DD is also doing a modified version with me. I don't let her max on weights to the point of muscle failure, but I do take her to the gym with me 6 days a week. She is also learning to make good, clean food choices. The main thing I'm trying to do is teach her by example. She could stand to lose about 20 lbs, but we don't focus on any numbers with her, just being healthy. Sounds like you are on the right track with your kids!
Hey, NoWorries(lol)- thanks! So I am totally lazy and just didn't feel like trying to spell your name... is that bad? How's it going with your daughter? I put up our 4wk total measurements on our other 5/16 post... Everything going well with you?
