I have been trying to get the challenge started, but I have a bad lower back, which makes me apprehensive about lifting weights. Does anyone have any suggestions?
This sound like one your best to see your family doctor about.
how safe it is to lift weights really depends on why it is sore. is it an injury? or is it from muscle tightness?
My advice would be to go and see your doctor. Lifting weights can certainly improve a sore back as often it is the result of having weak back and stomach muscles and a sedentary lifestyle. even after injury to your back, you can safely lift as long as you do it the right way. Perhaps see a physio? or get a trainer who can show you how to do it safely. But you need to make sure you wont cause injury to yourself. Make sure you also learn how to lift weights safely with the right technique. Make sure you build up to heavy weights, start light and work up.
Be careful and protect you back!
