BFL Warriors

  • Hey Gang...

Still at home and feeling like crap. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. I will take it easy today since I have to work this weekend.

Parson - I am glad things are falling into place for you and Wendy. Sounds like a great thing. Yes, I am going home for the new/old job. It just feel like the right thing to do. I have no doubt I am making the right decision. I will be going into a different position than before, but it suits me to a tee.

Runnermom -  Hope things are good with you. You are a cornerstone for this thread and I wanted to thank you for that. Keep on posting I truly am inspired everyday reading your journey.

BD - Glad you are getting a little break from school. Your schedule has been hectic and you still find the time and energy to workout. I need to take lessons from you.

Annakristina - Thanks for the well wishes. I have never had strep, but man it has knocked me down hard. I havent felt this bad for a while. I tried myfitnesspal for a while, but it was not for me. I would get to the end of the day and have some calories left and it allowed me to justify eating something bad just because I had the calories to burn. It has worked gret for many here, but wasnt my thing.

Brick - nice to see you back posting more regularly. Hopefully you are on the mend and ready to kick some @ss warrior style!!

Island, WPBill and Soaring Eagle - Have a great day.

Ok - Staats, Claude, Buzz, Tazz, Cleet, Grandpa, Tiny, and anyone else I have forgotten...This is a challenge to you all. Check in with us to let us know how you are doing. It isnt the same around here, so chime in.

    Later gang

  • Hey guys just to let you know I am still here migraine and all will post later. Anna welcome and we share something in comon Celiac Disease. It's natural to gain weight as you body starts to retain the nutrients. I gained 40# when I first started the diet.

    Cheers!

    Claude

  • Good Friday morning Warriors!!!!

I got to the gym early and did a full UBWO, incorporating two rounds of tabata sprints, and finshing up with 20 minutes on the stairclimber.  I'm going out big!  This weekend will conclude my eleven week challenge.  I am going hiknig with my sister tomorrow, but it is not a tough hike, more like a casual uphill walk.  I will then do a HIIT on Sunday, and then off to surgery on Monday @ 12:30; please say a little prayer that all will go well, and that I have an uneventful & quick recovery!!  I'm already thinkng about what I want to do when I resume my workouts!  The kids are home today, and they want to go shopping for some summer clothes & bathing suits (while the selection is still good).  It is already in the 70's & 80's here, so summer is right around the corner.  We don't get much of a spring here.

Anna:  sounds like you are tuning in to those workuts.  Keep it up.  I love the accountability of keeping a food diary, but many don't, and I say...do whatever works for you.  Like I said, I didn't count anything during my first challenge; I just made sure I ate a meal every 2-3 hours, and that it had close to equal amounts of protein & carbs, and  a little fat.  I did that and didn't miss a workout, and feel it was a succesful challenge for me.  Keep up the great work, and remember, there is no such thing as an easy challenge.  If it feels like it is getting easy, then change it up.

Parson:  Yay for your wife getting two spring breaks..wish I could.  So, do you guys eat the rattlesnakes?

Cuervo:  So sorry you are still feeling crummy!  Strep is nasty.  Take care of yourself and try to eat as well as you can.  The gym isn't gong anywhere.  It is more important to keep yourself hydrated and rest!!

Claude:  Take care of that migraine.  Let me know if you have any questions navigating on MFP.  I'll try to help you out.

I know 2C has been busy with her husband's schedule.  She said it is almost as if she is a single parent.  She is doing the best she can.  I hope she comes back to join us soon.  We miss you 2C!

    Runnermom:  Where are you????

I have been thinking a lot about some of our silent warriors....Staats???  Grandpa????  Buzz....are you still doing your challenge?  TAZZ:  How are you feeling; are you recovering from your surgery?  Michelle?  Who am I forgetting????  I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to take care of their health!!

    Gotta go eat; I'm starving!!!

Have a great Friday.  I will try to check in sometime this weekend.

"The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday!"

  • Happy Friday Warriors!!! I am SO glad the weekend is here!!!!

Cuervo: I am SO sorry that you have strep!!! I had so much strep growing up...I remember how miserable it is!!! I hope you are feeling better and hope those antibiotics are doing their job! It's a good thing you got it now though before starting your new job. Take it easy!

Claude: I hope your migraine is better. I am so sorry that you have to suffer through those. Glad to see you on MFP!

Parson: Will your wife be working at the same school as your kids? What grades does she teach? I am in special education preschool and absolutely LOVE IT!!! Way to go on adding those extra reps!

BDMom: Yes, I am running 8 miles tomorrow. I am so glad that this is my last distance training run. I am still trying to figure out my schedule for traveling to the beach next weekend...it is the first soccer game for both of my kids and they don't want to miss their first game. My husband and I are trying to figure things out...the beach is 3.5 hrs from where I live. I am staying with my sister and my kids want to see their cousins, but they also don't want to miss their first game. Oh well, I guess we will figure it all out before next week.

Soaring Eagle: Did you mean that you are doing a half marathon or a half-ironman triathlon? I have trained for several half marathons while doing BFL, but did triathlons before starting BFL. However, I believe that you can train successfully for either one while doing BFL. I am planning to do some triathlons this summer, but will only do sprint tri's. You will definitely be doing more cardio than what BFL calls for, but as long as you are keeping up with your strength training I think you will still see progress. I am a firm believer in cross-training, so getting your cardio through swimming, biking, and running is wonderful. I also believe that strength training improves all 3 of those sports, so you really are in a win-win situation! I have seen so much improvement in my running and biking speed and endurance since I have gotten serious about my weight training. The muscles I have built in my legs have really helped with my turn-over speed and I have had a lot less injuries since doing more strength training. Feel free to email me at amyjslp@yahoo.com if you have any other specific questions about distance running or triathlon training. Will this be your first triathlon, or have you done some before?

Island: How are you today? I thought about you today as I had an AWESOME workout in the aerobics room this morning!!!!

Accountability: I decided to bring my kettlebell to the gym this morning (they still don't have them there). I had the aerobics room all to myself and had my own little class! I alternated between Tabata sprints and kettlebell circuits, and added abs/core too. It was a GREAT workout!!!! I did this for an hour and boy was I sweating!!!! I absolutely LOVED this workout....I am thinking about approaching the group fitness manager and asking if I can teach a kettlebell class when we ever get them at Gold's! There were a few people who came into the room this morning thinking that I was teaching a class and wanted to to do it! I think they were disappointed that I had brought my own personal kettlebell. Anyway, it was fun to do something different and still work up a good sweat and get in full body workout.

Nutrition is packed and clean...brought my giant lunchbag again today!!!! I will try to post after my distance run tomorrow...I am hoping it's good weather so I can run outdoors. Have a great Friday!

  • BDMom: We must have been posting at the same time!!!! I will be praying for you on Monday. Please let us know how you are doing. Certainly sounds like you are finishing up with a BANG!!!! I am wondering what to do for my next challenge too since I am on Week 10. I left my number for a trainer to call me at Gold's....I want to take it to the next level!!!!!

  • Runnermom,

Half Triathlon, This is my second half triathlon and my wifes first. The funny part is that it was her idea. I ran one back in the 90's but it has been a long time. I am still doing my strength training. swimming comes easy for me as I have been swimming since I was about 10 yrs old.(love the water) running use to be easy but I have not done any for a long time before starting BFL. It feels great getting back to it after such a long break.

  • Hey GANG! Boy the last 2 days have been a complete blur.. Well I'll start with Thursday morning hit eh gym 445 am Legs were in session and the Word for the morning was SUPERSETS.. Started with the legpress machine and paired that with sissy squats started the weights at 200 and was at 780 by my last set :)

Next came hack squats I only took that to 185 but went deep and slow after that my quads were fried literally!

Next came dumbbell stiff legged Deadlifts did 6 sets keeping it between the 10 to 15 rep range then starting at 40lbs and ending at 70lbs super setting those with floor wipers holding the 135lb barbell..

Followed by machine calf raises 17-20 rep range 330-370 lbs super setted with weighted machine crunches. And that concluded my LBWO/Abs I gotta say I was sweating like it was mid day by the time i was done.. and thankfully i got it in early cause work was absolutely crazy worked 13 hours straight after that then found out that dad couldn't watch my keikis for me today so Had to go to the back up plan and take them to my godmother only thing she lives an hour away so by the time i finished work and got them to her it was almost 10pm then went back home and straight to bed hence the absence from posting yesterday.. which brings me to today. Dragged my behind outta bed and was back at the gym at 5 to work my shoulders biceps and triceps.. high rep moderate weight stuff so I was able to get it in before work and thankfully had a lunch break so went back for my KB circuit Runner: i wanted to use my aerobic room but it was locked :( booooo so just did it upstairs it was nice and quiet.. O and welcome to the club of bringing in your own gear to the gym lol.. I still do that to at my new one.. they have KB's but no sets only singles.. so I bring my 25lb set in when i want to kick it up a notch..

BD: Glad u gonna end your challenge with a bang i will be praying for u and hope all goes well with the procedure and the recovery..

Cuervo: thanks for checking in with us.. And congrats on making the new career move! hope u get well soon

Claude: Looking forward to keeping up on MFP with u

Parson: rattlesnakes interesting source of protien my friend :)

  • Hi warriors!

Just a quick post from my phone. I had a great run this morning. The weather was gorgeous!!! I ran 8.5 miles. It was great knowing this was my last distance run before the race next week.

Island: love the pics!!!! You truly give it all you got during your workouts!!

Bdmom: hope you are having a great final weekend of your challenge. Praying for you for Monday!

Soaring eagle: that is awesome that you n your wife are doing triathlons together. My husband and I raced together during many tris and it was so much fun!!!! We became quite competitive!!! I can proudly say that I beat him one time! I didn't let him live it down!!!

Next week starts week 11 of this challenge for me. Gotta start deciding my goals for my next challenge. I'm meeting with a trainer next week so hoping he can help take me to the next level.

Don't forget to spring forward tonight!!!

    Have a great weekend!!!

  • Good Day Warriors!!!

I went out to the hike with my sister this morning with Chris Powell from abc Extreme Makeover weight loss edition.  By the way, the next season begins on June 3rd.  What a great guy he is!!  So grounded and sweet, and such an inspiration for so many.  My sister is the fan of his, so I went with her, but I really like him.  I included a pic below & in my profile. The hike was puny; not much of a challenge, but oh well.  He had a lot of newbies to fitness out there.  Tomorrow I will do my final HIIT of this challenge, and I'll make sure to make it a great one.  Anyhow, getting lots taken care of around here today, cleaning, laundry, etc...Tomorrow after church, I will get to the grocery store and prep some food for the week.

runnermom:  Glad you had a great run; good weather makes all the difference.  Two more weeks, and you are done with this challenge.  What's next??  We are lucky to never have to change our clocks.  DST doesn't affect us.

Island:  Wow, what a day you had!!  Good thing you knocked out the workout early.  And, kudos for getting up early today to get your workout in.  You are killin it!  I can't wait to recup and be back strong again!

Better go check on laundry and get those bathrooms cleaned.  Have to clean the shower today.  Yuck!

    Have a great weekend!!

"The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday!"

  • Happy Saturday!

We survived the rattlesnakes. It's funny they serve everything but rattlesnake there LOL!

I ate a fried PB&J. It was pretty good ha! Never thought I would see it...so there is my treat ...

  • Good morning gang. Running on empty here. I worked yesterday, got home at 12:30 am this morn and am about to head out at 6am for work again. I had no sleep at all. I found out that one of my best friends was shot and murdered. They have arrested his father in law for killing him!! Please pray for his family and especially his 8 year old daughter and his wife. I hope you all have a great Sunday. I will check in as time allows over the next few days.

  • XOXOOXOXO

    Hey guys!

Just wanted to pop on and tell you all to have a fabulous week.  I will try to check in mid-week or so.  We have to leave here around 9:30 to be at surgery center at 10:30, or my procedure at 12:30.  So much waiting!!  My daughter has me reading the Hunger Games, so I will take that with me.

    Later!

"The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday!"

  • Morning Warriors!

BDMom - I will be praying for you today and this week that all goes even better than expected/planned for!

How is the time change treating everyone this AM?  I'm better today than yesterday, but still not there yet LOL!  I got my workout in.  Today UB w/focus on shoulders and back.  It was good, but it took me a few minutes to get going...

Cuervo - Sorry to hear about your friend dieing!  I'm praying for that family as well!  How is your week shaping up for you?

Runnermom - I know what you mean about trying to figure out goals.  I feel like I am in the same place now in ways too.  I'm happy with my weight...if I lose or gain a few it's no big deal.  I feel like my focus right now is on gaining strength and what muscle may come with that.  But once a month or so I kind of feel like focussing on lowering my BF as much as possible?  After my workout this AM I felt it was all about strength....and I am ok with that.  Overall I want the focus to be on my overall health, and I guess the rest can fall into place.  10yrs from now I may not be the biggest/strongest/leanest/whatever, but  I still want to be active in this game.  Oh the constant dilemna of goals vs being happy LOL!  We will get it figured out...

I watched an interesting movie/documentary this weekend.  It was called Fat Sick and Nearly Dead.  It is on Netflix if you have access  to that and there is a website, that I have admittedly not visited.  All I will say is that I curiously liked it...and there are elements of what this guy did that I can see as ok in moderation.  Ultimately in the end he challenged some people to get up and make a change/difference in their health and body.  It's hard to argue with that.

Have a great Warriors!  Sorry I didn't do more shoutouts.  Work is calling.  All of you are important to me and I appreciate the accountability and friendship we have here!!!  Make it count today!

  • Good morning Worriers,

Well her it is the beginning of week 12. Imagine, just eleven weeks ago, I was making my shopping list and trying to figure out how to operate the Body Fat calculator. Unsure as to if I could even last twelve weeks.  Twelve weeks was a long way away at that time. Now I look back and it seems that time has flown by.  All the goals I have and things still left to do, my to do list seems to be getting longer then my done list. The more energy I have the more I want to do and the more I feel capable of doing. What started out as just a personal experiment on another weight lose attempt turned into just what the name says it is a Body For Life. To those that are still battling “keep fighting on”, for those who have completed 12 or more weeks of this new life stile, Congratulations now go fourth, and preach the BFL gospel.

BDMom -  Our prayers are with you this week

Hope you all have a great week

  • Happy Monday Warriors!!!!

Soaring Eagle: Congrats on making it to Week 12!!!! Isn't it a great feeling???!!!! Be sure and let us know your progress over the past 12 weeks. Today starts Week 11 of my C3. This has definitely been my best challenge yet.

Parson: Yes, it is my overall goal to truly make this a way of life and to live healthy always. I know I am at that point and will never go back. I know there will still be roadblocks, but I know now how to always get back on track. I do think, though, for my next challenge I will try to reach my goal of decreasing my BF%. After meeting with a trainer I hope to find out what is a realistic goal for me for BF%. Like you said, it's all about being happy, and I know this lifestyle contributes to my happiness.

BDMom: Praying for you today. Hope all goes well. Please check in with us!

Cuervo: I am so sorry about your friend. That is just tragic. I will be praying for you as well as for your friend's family. Try to get some rest.

Yesterday was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day here in the Carolinas. After church, our family spent the entire day outside. I took the dogs for a long walk, walked the kids down to the neighbors house to play, picked up dog poop in the backyard (even this wasn't so bad with the gorgeous weather!!!), and then sat outside and read my new Oxygen magazine. It was a good day!!! I just love that spring is almost here!

This morning I went to the gym and had a great LBWO. My legs are finally recovered from last week!!!! Towards the end of this week I will be taking a little more rest than usual due to my half marathon coming up this Sunday. The weather is supposed to be in the 70s on race day! That is a little warm for race weather but it should be beautiful. There should be a nice breeze since it is on the beach.

Food is packed and clean. I made some buffalo meatloaf last night...yum!!!!

    Have a great day everyone!!!!
