Wake Up With a Purpose! - Body-for-LIFE Champion Colby Knight

We recently started a new trimester here at Idaho Falls High School.  Each trimester is 12 weeks long.  At the beginning of every trimester, I sit down with my classes, and we discuss setting goals for the upcoming tri.  I want my students to be excited for the opportunity they have to succeed in my class.  I want them to understand that in the short space of 12 weeks you can change your whole outlook on life.

During the conversation with my class I was taken back to a time not long ago when I was going through the motions of life.  I woke up every morning because I had to.  I wasn’t looking forward to future endeavors.  I wasn’t excited about my life.  Here I had a beautiful wife, two great kids, one on the way, and I felt like I was just wading through life.  My feelings about myself were not solely based on how I looked but how I felt.  I felt like crap.  I wasn’t attacking life with the same zeal I had previously done.  I knew I needed to get back on track.  I wanted to be excited to get up in the morning.  I wanted to be excited to go to work.  I wanted to want to take my kids places and play.  I wanted a purpose.

On Jan. 1st 2008, Body-for-LIFE gave me the opportunity to change the way I approached life.  It gave me the confidence to continue to set new goals.  The challenge renewed my soul.  It gave me the push I needed to be the kind of father and teacher I wanted to be.  I not only looked better but I felt better.  I woke up every day excited about the challenge of life.

I have since opened up our school weight room every morning at 6:30 am.  For three years I have volunteered to help anyone in our community who wants to get their butts out of bed and get into shape.  I have loved every minute of it.  I enjoy getting up in the morning and coming to school.  I love waking up with a purpose!  I have seen many transform their own lives.  What a great feeling to see one of your best friends shed some tears following the completion of a 12 week challenge.

The best part about Body-for-LIFE is the challenge is never over.  I get to continue what I started three years ago, every day.  I continue to set new goals along with my classes here at I.F.  I want to be someone my classes can look up too.  I want to show them that anyone can set goals, but it takes something special to not quit.  I realize if they can accomplish their goals in my class, they will have the ability to move forward in life and be whatever they want to be.

I just want to thank Body-for-LIFE for giving me the wake up call I needed.  I now know I will be successful in whatever I do.  I will never give up on my goals.  I will continue to live life to its fullest.  I will never take for granted the opportunity I have to get up in the morning and LIVE.  I now know my purpose.

  • Hey Colby!!!

Finally...someone from Idaho! I live in Sun Valley and am so excited that there is someone here from my neck of the woods!... I loved your story! You are a true champ!

    Cheers

  • Your speech in Knoxville, along with your video here brought the memories flooding back.  You are indeed and inspiration every single day!!

  • That's fantastic and a great story.  I have been on fire of BFL as it has given me the structure to focus and be diciplined.  Seeing the changes in my attitude and my body is rewarding. I am experienceing a lull.  I'm on day 74 and I want to have more muscle than I have.  And I'm feeling like I'm alone in this which is wierd.  I am going through a divorce and I think I may be experiencing loss.  Losing my marraige and all that goes with it.......losing the old body and attitude to a new and healthy one.  Does this make since?  It's kind of like your wading through life.  I am feeling like my purpose is getting bogged down. Fear of failure is one thing, fear of success is another.  I am pushing forward.  I am on day 74 and I have 10 days to go to complete my first challenge.  So with all that said I feel and look good. Time to go do cardio.  Thanks for reminding me to Wake Up With A Purpose!!

  • My name is Carla and tomorrow I start another round of the challenge and I am so encouraged to go all the way! I've had success in the past with the challenge; but I somehow gave up - but I've learned from my past failures and I am determined that I'm going to complete the entire 12 weeks without comprimising in the food and exercise category .  NO MORE EXUSES.   I'm focused, and I'm going to go all the way! There's so much hidden potential in me and I want to tap into it.. before I leave this earth.. I know I can do it! I know I can do it!

  • What a great opportunity to be able to do that.

And, ya, total tear jerker for you and them when the complete their challenge!

I love your positive energy, and I am sure it is infectious to those around you.

    Keep on ROCKIN!!!
