My entire life I’ve struggled with my weight. At 29, I weighed 255lbs. and was growing out of my size 42 pants. After a visit to my doctor, it was confirmed that at 29, I was grossly overweight and suffering from high cholesterol. I needed to make a change. I owed it to myself and to my newborn son. That’s when I turned to Body-for-LIFE®. Armed with the knowledge of healthy food choices, nutrition and an effective workout regime, I prepared my 6 balanced meals and worked out 6 days per week. After 29 years, my body was beginning to transform. Almost instantly I began to see results. For the first time in my life I was shedding fat and building muscle.
As the weeks passed, the BFL Program became my life. I lived, ate and breathed the program. The meals and workouts quickly became routine and I was feeling rejuvenated, energized, and motivated to persevere. My results were STUPENDOUS! Everywhere I went, I was met with awe and encouragement as my body was transforming.
As a barber, I spent the past 10 years in a busy shop cutting hair. The moment in which I realized how effective the program was, was when my clients would enter the shop, sit in my chair and ask “Mike’s not in today” or “so you’re the new guy?” These were my loyal clients, some of which I’d been cutting for 10 years. My progress was so extraordinary; I was beyond their recognition. Soon enough I became the topic of conversation in the shop. Client after client complimented my weight loss and encouraged my journey. In fact, I attribute part of my success to my army of supporters from the shop who tracked my progress throughout the 12 weeks. Questions and curiosity began pouring in. Almost every haircut was a discussion about the BFL Program. I would share with them the principles; I would show them my book and the before/after photos. I would send them off with the BFL website written on the back of my business card. More importantly, I would send them away with the motivation to initiate change in their own lives. They know the program worked—I was their proof and inspiration. I found myself busier than ever. People couldn’t get enough. They were stopping by with questions and looking for advice. Who would have ever thought that someone who was grossly overweight, inactive and dangerously unhealthy his entire life, had now become a subject matter expert and the source of inspiration for so many.
At the end of my 12-week Challenge, I lost 25 inches, 92 pounds and 14% body fat. More important than the numbers, I lost the shame, the inactivity, and the health risks associated with being overweight. Although for me, entering this competition was about loss, I ended up gaining quite a bit; I gained the knowledge to make healthy and nutritious food choices; I gained strength, muscle and definition; and I gained an appreciation for working out and overall physical and mental health. Most importantly, I gained self-confidence and self-worth. I am a champion! There is no amount of money, no prize, not even a title that can give me a greater reward than a new shot at life.
