In late March I lost my mother-in-law. She was my best friend, confidant, parental advisor, and cooking instructor – my “Nan.” I did not realize how close I was to her until she was no longer with us. During that time, my husband and I were about to go back into business after a 5-year semi-retirement, taken in order to spend more time with our growing boys (now 16 & 13). The fear that my newly-enjoyed interests: gardening, canning, dirt-bike races on the weekends, spending time with family and friends, long walks… were now in danger of becoming non-existent. In addition, I was also experiencing some female problems (I won’t bore you with those details). At age 47, I found myself in a deep depression. With teenage boys at home to raise, I decided it was time to see a doctor.
After explaining my situation, she saw it necessary to put me on an anti-depressant. After some time, my attitude did seem to improve (as my weight increased). I decided it was time, once again, for Body-for-LIFE. I was named one of the “Top 2000” finishers back in 2001. I wanted to improve my outlook and physical state “naturally” and get off anti-depressants.
I started the Program and went back to my doctor for a follow-up appointment. She was shocked to take my blood pressure (normally high even with medication) and asked what I had been doing. I explained to her I was 4-weeks into a 12-week program. She suggested I cut down my blood pressure pills (by HALF!) and go OFF the anti-depressants. After 8 weeks on the program my physical and mental stat continued to improve and my blood pressure readings remained normal!
I find I am a much more pleasant person to be around. I enjoy the simple pleasures in life. I like “me” again. Thank you for that! I look forward to another Challenge (starting Monday, April 25th
) to maintain my newly acquired body and eating habits. I will then remove my blood pressure pills ENTIRELY! I have been on them since I was 18 years old – that’s almost 30 years! Thank you to Body-for-
